Today’s meditation was a ten minute self-guided session based on an affirmation card that says, “There’s no need to be so hard on yourself, you’re managing as best you can.”

Bless Prompt for October 9th : Connect
Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.
Today’s draw is the Nine of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of themes that have to do with contentment, accomplishment, and satisfaction in the area of one’s emotions, relationships, creativity, and intuition.
Do what makes you happy. You are not responsible for anyone’s happiness aside from your own, no matter how much pressure you (or they) put upon you to make it otherwise.
Instead of capitulating to others whims and desires, push for what you want. It’s okay to demand others bend to your whims every once in a while. They certainly have no issue with trying to bend you to theirs.
The message in today’s Nine of Cups and Connect prompt is a reminder that the healthy relationships that matter aren’t based off you sacrificing what you want to make others happy… so stop trying to appease others by doing so.

Prompt for October 9th : What do you need to focus on for self-care for this month’s new moon?
Reading Summary: Already this month you’ve spent a lot of time crowded in with too many people for too much time (Barrel of Mummies), capitulating to what others have wanted instead of putting your own wants first (Gore a Plenty). It’s time to recommit yourself to your own brand of fun and frivolity (Little Red Gorevette).
Take Away: Between the “mini vacation” last weekend with hours on end in a crowded SUV to this weekend’s excursion with Ms B, it’s been a busy month so far overflowing with social obligations, too many people, not enough alone time, and the grinding efforts to keep up with your orders and work in between it all.
As the new moon comes into focus, it’s time to reconnect with your efforts at prioritizing your own wants and needs once more.

Prompt for October 9th : my voice flickering out
a loud bang that makes the world shake
and a crunch of metal and wood
(Nine of Spades)
a flash of fear at a strangers face
a dark smile that can’t be misunderstood
(Jack of Clubs)
a race ensues with a dive for the bat
hidden just out of view
(Two of Clubs)
a heavy weight pinning smaller form
and fingers scramble for something new
(Ten of Spades)
violence erupts in sharp flashes of pain
as it’s not a bat but awl that’s found
(Jack of Diamonds)
and as his knife sinks into throat
it’s the awl that takes him down
(Five of Spades)

Prompts for October 9th
Close – Two of Pentacles – You don’t have to be the responsible party all the time, always keeping an eye out for what others want and making decisions that don’t really make you happy.
It’s time to break this habit and close the door on this tendency. It’s not serving you well, nor doing an adequate job of keeping things in your life in balance.
Open – Nine of Cups – Instead of considering what will make everyone else happy, open your eyes to what will make you happy.
Prioritize your happiness and preferences over the warped version of fairness you’ve developed where others get what they want, but you don’t. It’s not fairness no matter how you dress it up or try to distort it into that perspective; it’s just self-neglect.

I chose to drive home tonight instead of spending the night over up north. Even though exhausted, I just wanted to wake up in my own bed tomorrow morning.

That poem just broke my heart all over again.
