Weekly Creativity Prompt – Experiencing the Cards

Prompt: Draw three random cards from your deck. Separately for each card, tell us about an experience, incident, or event in your life (past or present) that fits the theme of that card. Share the cards you pulled with us here, as well as what event or experience in your life that you connect with it, and why.

The Mushroom TarotThe Emperor (Boletus edulis) – When I was seventeen, I was in a catastrophic car accident. After many, many surgeries to repair and reconstruct a good deal of the joints on the right side of my body and a good deal of physiotherapy, I spent time in a pain clinic, where I received some very useful advice.

For those that don’t know, a pain clinic is not meant to take away your pain.  You are sent to a pain clinic to learn to live with your pain as a constant companion (and not inconvenience others with it).

In this clinic, the advice given was that “fake it ’til you make it” is a tool.  A tool that can be used to alter your reality. Fake that you are not in pain and it will not take your pain away, but over time you can teach your brain and body that it doesn’t matter. You can learn where your “base line” is for your pain, and come to understand that nothing is wrong, even when you hurt… as long as you don’t hurt above a certain pain level.

In learning this, over time I was able to seize control of my responses to my pain, and adjust my perception of it. I was able to learn how to accept it as a part of my day to day life, and not allow it to rule over me moving forward.

The Hermit (Armillaria sp.) – The trip up the mountain to the lake is a hard one no matter if it’s rain or shine or snow. Agonizing and painful, as lungs burn and fingertips tingle as the body struggles to get enough air and the breeze turns frigid with the elevation gain until even sweat slicked, a jacket is needed.  But reaching the lake? Is a gift.  A joy.  A relief.  And a pleasure. With no one around but the deer and the bears, stripping off clothes to dive into glacier fed water is a shock and a balm, as freezing temperatures wash over heated skin and ease overworked muscles.

This is a hike I do often in a little known part of the rainforests, deep within the woods.  And after the swim, I take time to clothe and then wander into the woods, to find myself a bed of moss to spread out on and relax. I let muscles ease as I look up at dappled leaves and fronds that block out the sky far above and listen to the voice of nature serenade the senses.

When I return to civilization, I return refreshed and recharged. Radiant, and at peace.

The Hanged Man (Morchella sp.) – Being wrong happens to everyone. And, we all have moments when we feel we’re right, our back gets up, and we just refuse to back down. As much as I try to always take in other’s perceptions and perspectives, it even happens to me now and then. I want to see other’s perspectives.  I want to learn to see things differently.  And yet, sometimes I get stuck too, just like everyone else, on my own perspective. Unable to see any other, unwilling to let go or loosen up on my own.

Then?  I sleep. It’s in sleep that that “loosening up” happens.  In sleep, my mind often processes what I wasn’t processing while awake.  It never fails during these moments, that after a good sleep, I’m able to look beyond my perspective.  Sometimes, I realize I’m wrong.  Sometimes? I realize whoever I was clashing with and myself are actually arguing on the same damned side, just using different approaches or wording.

I then feel the need to re-hash everything.  The need to go back and talk, to clear the air and admit that I fucked up or that I was wrong.

Do you go back? I do.

Make It a Goal

Today’s meditation was skipped today. I could  have used it, but I was too distracted dealing with banking bullshit all day.

Jeu de Tarot Breton and How to Be a Wildflower DeckToday’s draw is the Judgement card, which is traditionally a representation of looking back on one’s history and reflecting upon if they are happy with all that they have done and become in life, as well as getting in touch with one’s true calling, and themes to do with forgiveness and absolution.

I feel like a lot of my daily cards lately have been encouraging awareness of the little things and appreciation of the small joys in life.  And here again, we are reminded that it is the celebration of small joys that is the true treasures in life.

Today’s cards are a reminder that on the journey of your path through life, a little reverie and joy is needed to lighten the load and brighten the journey.  Make sure that as you  move along in life, you are instilling joy and laughter into your days.  Make it a goal.

Lighten the path… brighten your journey.  Make your life one filled with joy.

Questions for November 12th thru 16th

Магический Oракул Западные СлавянеWhat is the difference between a responsibility and a burden, to me personally?

Responsibility is nurturing and build strength and community (Family), whereas a burden simply sucks your well of energy dry until you feel like a husk of your former self (Vampire).

What burden(s) do I hold that need to be let go?

Youth – That everything has to be upbeat and perfect all the time… that you have to be perfect all the time. This is something you were taught when you were young and it’s time to let that expectation go.

How do I accept responsibility (style/method)?

Mill – You accept responsibility by churning through what needs accomplished as quickly as possible so that you can provide more for others (and continue to pile on more and more responsibilities in doing so). It’s all about “more, more, more” and the nurturing of others by providing for them what they need.

What responsibilities of others do I shoulder, that I need to let go?

Snatch – You have a habit of seeking out and snatching up opportunities for others to hand to them, instead of teaching them (or pushing them) to seek these out on their own.

What responsibilities of my own do I allow others to shoulder, that I need to take on myself?

Spine atop Maid – Not allowing when I’m feeling vulnerable to dictate so much of my behavior and how I feel about the world around me. This puts burden on others when you do this, and you need to start figuring out how to stabilize and regulate yourself a bit better during these times.

Shadows of Light Oracle and Jeu de Tarot BretonWhat is something I underestimate myself in?

Cycles, The Hermit atop Justice – Your ability to bounce back. To ride out the waves and heal yourself from upsets and imbalances, and how important healthy alone time is to this process.

Something encouraging that could help me with this.

Discernment and Nine of Clubs – Being more discerning and building better boundaries for yourself.

Take Away: This is about the financial issues that I’m going through right now concerning the credit card fraud that happened to me at the beginning of the month. This reading indicates that I need to lighten up on the doom and gloom concerning my recovery from this incident. And there is a reminder to take more care in where I use my card in the future… as well as how often.

Daily Self Kindness

I pulled my December decks today.  I know it doesn’t sound like a self kindness, but by doing this today, I’m making sure that between the visit to my mother’s, the holiday rush, and the short turn-around time on orders I’ll be facing when I return home aren’t complicated by even more things that need to be done when I get home.

I feel so safe

Full Moon in Taurus – November 2021

Coming up on Friday is the Full Moon! I’m a bit early, but like all new moons and full moons, I did a spread aligned to the moon’s current themes as a part of my recognition of the moon’s cycle and influences upon us. Today’s spread is about being rooted in prosperity, and brought to you by Sharron Basanti of Seeds of Shakti.

The Edvard Munch Tarot

1. What self-imposed beliefs connected to money do I need to release?

Page of Swords / Traumatized Child – You need to let go of the idea of that money is the key to everything. Although you acknowledge this intellectually and readily accept there is more to life than money, you still focus on monetary gain as if it is. It’s time to begin letting go of this mentality and allow yourself to learn to act in accordance with what you believe, instead of what you’ve been taught.

2. How can I use the energy of the Taurus Full Moon to break unhealthy patterns that are blocking my flow of prosperity?

Strength / Wound – Acknowledge the pains from the past, and absorb their lessons instead of allowing the wounds to sit on the surface and dictate your behavior. You do not gain additional strength by letting these wounds remain open or allowing them to fester, but you can gain strength by helping yourself to heal instead.

3. As an earth sign, what can Taurus teach me about creating a safety nest of abundance for a rainy day?

The Fool / Beginning – You are already far too rooted in this idea, and you need to loosen up. That said, banging on again and again at old methods will not produce new results, just more of the same. Sometimes, for growth and expansion beyond your current limitations, you have to break out of old habits and try something new.

4. How can I root myself to the magick of the Earth to draw in prosperity?

Seven of Pentacles / Longing – Patience. Prosperity grows over time and it’s not immediate, therefore expecting immediate gratification only leads to feelings of failure and self-flagellation.

5. Message from the Ancestors.

Knight of Cups / Connection – Do not forget that you have others in your life (both physically and spiritually) that are willing to support you in not just your day-to-day work, but also your happiness.

Exploring Joy

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was another of the guided meditations on the Calm app. That’s two days in a row!

In this morning’s meditation, the focus was on the breath, and the topic was about how, when we are stressed, our breathing often becomes shallow and/or uneven.

The guide in the meditation then went on to explain how, during these times, pausing to take a few slow, deep breaths can calm out bodies and minds, bringing everything back into a more relaxed mindset by easing anxiety and tension.

Solara Occulta Tarot and How to Be a Wildflower DeckToday’s draw is the Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of childlike enthusiasm, naïveté, new beginnings, the start of a new journey (whether that be spiritual, physical, or otherwise).

I like the Fool blindfolded, as it is in this card. It’s not traditional, but I feel it is far more accurate to the meaning of the card than no blindfold.  Although, rose-colored glasses would be ideal.

Right.  Slight detour of thought.  The affirmation card for today is “Be Astonished” which with the blindfolded fool sounds just about right. They definitely seem quite taken with the flower they hold, and if they can’t see it, it must be the scent that mesmerizes.

The encouragement in these cards today is a reminder to appreciate the little things.  It’s okay to get carried away with your enjoyment now and then, and to take pleasure in the small things can be one of the greatest joys in life.

Pathfinder Oracle and Tarot of Sacred RealmsHow or in what area can l extend grace to myself?
Hawk and Knight of Wands

You don’t have to be on top of every little thing all the time. That mentality will begin to eat away at your enthusiasm over time, and can quickly lead to overwhelm.

Why is this so important right now?
Flood and The Hermit

Overwhelm can, in turn, then force you into a need to retreat and hide away from the world. At this time of year, those actions could have long reaching detrimental repercussions.

Solara Occulta Tarot

There was once a thief hiding in a circus. He lifted treats, swindled cash. He swiped candy and prizes, and pilfered jewelry. Wallets in pockets didn’t stand a chance, and he poached the ringmaster’s dinner. (Seven of Swords)

He hid in the tents at night after closing, slunk through the shadows of pre-dawn light, and wandered among the crowds during the day.

One day the perpetrator of the perfect purloin was hiding in one of the trailers when the knife thrower’s assistant came in to fix her make-up. As she sat before the mirror humming a sweet serenade, the music slipped into his heart and pulled upon strings deep within himself that he didn’t know he had. (The High Priestess)

Her voice was melodic and pervasive, swirling through his soul and speaking to his spirit, and he fell so deeply in love with her that he couldn’t stand to have her in danger.

That night he planned his biggest heist yet, and as the circus slept he crept into the knife thrower’s tent and stole all his knives.

Feeling certain that she would now be safe and that he had outsmarted the knife thrower, he slipped off into the night, wracking his brain on how he might impress her on the morrow. (Ace of Swords)

Drip.. Drip..
Drip… Drip…
Raindrops fall
from slate gray clouds
kissing every surface
trailing along
curves and slopes
they drip from leaf tips
and little lateral buds
I could watch
this process for hours
if only the bite of cold
didn’t require
continued movement
