Weekly Creativity Prompt – The Playlist

/ Twist the Leaf / Leave a comment

This is a fun repeat exercise that I’ve now used a few times and resurrect every few months!

Have you ever listened to a song and suddenly realized “This song is such a Tower/Emperor/Hanged Man song!”? This activity is based off of a love for music and how we associate music with the world around us.

Activity: Randomly draw five cards from your deck. For each card pick (or find) a song that you feel fits that card perfectly.

IMG_1392The Friendliest Garden

Pansy petals
like little kisses
from happy faces
looking up
to greet you
with a gentle greeting
and smile of cheer
tucked among
lush green beds
of leaves.

Come outside
and say hi.

The Weeping Heart

Crumbling moments
where the gut
knots up
and shingles fall
like disappointed tears
from rooftops
dripping from the eaves
of nose tip and chin
as breath hitches
and huffs
like wind
tearing free
bits of window frame

Strength’s Guises

Delicate petals
splay wide
hearts open
to greet the sun
as shimmering pink
unfurl
like a blush
rising on pale cheeks

Fragile beauty
with sturdy vines
hidden beneath
a strength
gone mostly unseen

Gentle Evening

A hint of pink
in a world of blue
promises
delicate hues
through twilight hours
as light shades
slide into dark
and mountain peaks
are swallowed
by stars

Let’s linger here
a while
and watch

Summer’s Smile

Spring rain
yields
to summer sun
like delicate
purple flowers
that fall
fragrant
to the ground
while yellow buds
open
to greet the day

More rain please
