Autumn is a promise
whispered on the wind
as temperatures rise
once again
and we all wait
with bated breath
for the leaves to turn
in a vibrant death
and the earth to ease
into sleep
and the weather to cool
and air to smell sweet
like rainy days
and earthy decay
as finally the heat
is waved away
