Gideon’s Challenge – Peace

Retreating Rabbits

Peace

don’t let me
interrupt
your quiet moments
before dusk
steals the light
away
as I merely
pass by
on my way
to somewhere else
and I’m no danger
to you
even if
I were to stay

Gideon’s Challenge – Impatience

Red Osier Dogwood (Cornus sericea) Autumn Leaf

Impatience

blood drips
from wounds
not recognized
and feed the earth
the taste
of my essence
as I wait
on the roadside
for help
that feels
like it will
never arrive

Gideon’s Challenge – Dismayed

Urban Decay

Dismayed

as the world
falls apart
in shades
of brick
and gray
it comes to mind
that small fixes
might not
be enough
to turn
the tide away

Gideon’s Challenge – In Love

Singing Seagulls

In Love

who needs alcohol
when we can be
drunk on each other
and the company
we keep
so that the world
seems a little brighter
in your company
than whenever
left alone
and my heart sings
in harmony
with yours

Gideon’s Challenge – Overstimulated

Macro Photo of Moss and Lichen on Bark

Overstimulated

Let’s sink in
to the quiet stillness
of small burrows
and soft moss
where the sounds
of water drops
and faint rustle
of bird feathers
are all ears can hear
and slugs move
at the speed
of slow breaths
and we can watch
from the sidelines
as they race
at speeds
we could only
dream of

Gideon’s Challenge – Eagerness

Here Comes the Rain

Eagerness

Clouds fill the sky
returning the world
to the familiar hues
of blue, gray and green
and lips spread
into a wide smile
as rainfall approaches
eager to return
cold and wet
to a land tired
of being baked
under the sun
