A blush rises
as eyes
cast down
and head dips
as if to hide
from the world
behind
silken strands
that falls forward
as if to conceal
delicate skin
with a hue
of pink
that spreads
toward the ears

as damp soil
wood and moss
welcome
a new day
and another
raindrop
to glisten upon

It feels like
every day
the gas tank
is empty
again
and we’re
looking for change
between sofa cushions
for a mile or two
more
before it’s
empty
once again
