to be tangled

where bare branches
stretch overhead
and the heat
we generate
causes
shimmering crystals
to melt
and drip down
upon us
like raindrops.

disorganized
each little
angle
and sharp edge
rounded smooth
as water
drips
and the drop
is drawn down

to become lost
somewhere
below.

even the creak
of branches
sounds
thunderous
by comparison
as mossy beds
are buried
beneath
tufts of white
that land
on chilled cheeks
parted lips
and
closed eyelids

Touch with care
or not

for cedar slivers
sting
like bee stingers
when piercing flesh
leaving behind
red marks
angry welts
when a rough
graze
knocks bark free
from thick trunks.
