The Awakening
Minuscule
delicate blooms
clustered
in the thousands
or perhaps millions
create a sea
of undulating color
as the breeze
skims over
prickly leaves
and kiss the tips
of tiny flowers
one by one
The Trap
Caught
dumbstruck
and fascinated
as gaze is
drawn in
and the mind
clears
and the world
disappears
for a few moments
before a touch
on the shoulder
bring reality
back into focus
Tidal Flats
When the tide
retreats
to reveal
pools and sand
the underbelly
left exposed
for hours
at a time
do you linger
waiting
or explore
secret hollows
until they’re hidden
once more
The Invitation
I see you there
staring at me
with sleepy eyes
and an invitation
promised
if I’m willing
to lean over
and nuzzle in
to soft fur
and purring
warmth
for a little
shared nap

is the color
of winter
with cold air
and wet earth
and rows of
empty branches
aching
for the warmth
of spring
as they wait
patiently
beneath
heavy skies

Artistry
long forgotten
left to decay
as if no longer
of value
to anyone
and yet
here I stand
breath
stolen
as I admire
beauty and
craftsmanship
no longer
held dear
