Moving fast
panted breath
hauling ass
and then you trip.
Knees and hands
land in the dirt.
While pops of color
catch the eye
and create
a moment’s pause
to breathe.
The urge to climb
is strong and fierce
it pulls and tugs
demands more
more energy
more footsteps
more straining muscles
and panting breaths.
The craving for altitude
digs in deep claws
and pushes the body
to its limits.
that you said
I don’t need to apologize
and yet the urge is still there
again and again
the I’m sorry
even unspoken
hangs in the air
I know I did nothing wrong
but I have to say it again.
