Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_6146Whimsy

Come in close
among mossy fronds
and fiddleheads
to touch noses
with his cheery face.
Mushroom tops
wobble and dance
as the little bell inside
sings.
Sniff out the thimble
of sweet sweet honey
go ahead and take a sip.

My garden and my home are both open to the Fae.  I welcome them in, I leave them offerings, and I have baubles traps for entertainment.  They are a part of the wards and protections of my home… not because I’ve asked them to, but because this is a safe place for them and they like it here. Bits of whimsy and fun touches are scattered throughout my home and garden in welcome to them… this little gnome and the tinkling bell mushrooms are simply one of many of those small touches.

IMG_5843My Love

Spending time
with you
is the softness
of forest moss,
the warm embrace
of humid air.
A familiar comfort
that soothes
the soul.

You are my forest… away from the forest.

IMG_6324The Wrinkle

Like a crease
on the soul
a surface
that seems smooth
until you look close
and really
pay attention.
My soul clenches,
tightening
in its vulnerability…
Back up.

Subdrop sucks. Just sayin’.  Thank you so much for being there with me and helping me through it.  I know I’m not easy to be around in close quarters when feeling raw and vulnerable.  I can pretend I’m fine for most… but when you get too close the view changes drastically.   You manage to always see me at my worst and love me despite the wrinkles in my soul in these moments.

IMG_4681Hidden

I am the one
concealed in the green
peering out
to watch
from dappled shadows
and swaying fronds.
I am the one
that sees you.
That secret wild you
civilization
will not accept…
but I do.

IMG_4675Encouraged

I see
a little bear face
nestled
among the moss
on a hike
among the trees
and draping ferns.
A painted bear face
that brightens
my heart
and suddenly
each step
is a bit lighter.

Painted rocks are all the rage around here these days.  You can find them in the city, in the park, on hikes… just about everywhere if you pay attention.  Usually, the hikes I go on are a little too strenuous for those that do the whole “painted rock thing”, not to mention who would want to haul rocks on a hike?   I found this one on one of the easier hikes, though, just waiting off the trail in some moss to peek out and encourage a smile.

IMG_2527Shrivel

Quietly wilting
edges ruffled
rumpled.
The petals
still fragrant
but fading
still beautiful
but tattered
just along
curled in edges
as beauty
slowly fades.

I will not allow what happened to cause the new petals of my emotional growth to whither and wilt.  These delicate edges of floral petals that are the growth of my emotional healthy and well-being are not allowed to be tattered.  Not by her. I will not allow this newest affront to cause me to backslide.
