Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Today’s meditation was subverted for a nap.  Apparently I needed the sleep more than I realized, as I was going to be doing a guided meditation and as soon as I settled in place… I dozed right off to sleep.   I will try to meditate again before bed.

Heaven & Earth Tarot - Nine of SwordsToday’s draw is the Nine of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of anxiety, insomnia, and struggling with one’s inner voice and worries.

I’ve always loved this card in a wide variety of decks.  It’s one that I relate to greatly.   What stands out the strongest in the imagery of this card today is the astronomical symbols on the blanket covering the woman in the image.  Or rather, it’s the style of artwork that allows for some of those symbols to be so crisp and precise, and others to be blurred or indistinct.

I understand that this was an artistic choice, and one that was probably not intended to convey a message.  And yet, to me… it does.  It speaks of allowing yourself not to worry so much about the little things.   It’s about that phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff” because perhaps these details are so small that many wouldn’t even notice them… and perhaps so unimportant that some wouldn’t pay attention.  And yet to the artist?  These detail are very important and a conscious choice was made not to make them so minutely detailed that they took up the focus of the image as a whole.

There’s always lots and lots of things to worry about in life, but we need to make sure we don’t get so focused on the small stuff that we forget to look at the big picture and allow ourselves to get a good night’s sleep at night.  Let go of some of the small stuff and all those micromanaging inclinations… take a breath and relax.

Question
: What am I asked to do about elements within myself that don’t support my plans?

Mundane Magick Tarot

Reading Summary: Go on your merry way (The Fool) after the things that light your fire (Pupil of Lighters), and don’t allow your responsibility to others (Forecaster of Coins) to overwhelmed you (Ten of Lighters).

Take Away:  This isn’t about ignoring those elements within myself that hold me back, but rather allowing my enthusiasm to overpower them and weigh that enthusiasm as having far more weight than the responsibilities that try to drag me down.   In other words… beware the burnout that can happen when you let those that depend on you become a burden instead of an asset.

Question
: What do I need to focus on for self-care during this new moon?

Future Vision Gem TarotReading Summary: Down moods and depression happens (Three of Swords). Use your strengths to rise above (Strength) and remember it’s only temporary (Wheel of Fortune).

Take Away: The whisper of my negative inner narrative has been flirting at the edges of my subconscious for about a week now.  The cards are a warning of the whispers that are trying to slip in and mess with my head.  They are a reminder than I am strong and I have tools at my disposal to help curb the coming depression into something more manageable.  They are also a reminder that these struggles are not permanent. They are temporary, and they will pass.

Depression often feels like it will never end, that you will never feel better and that this is feeling of depression is your existence for always.  Keeping in mind that it is temporary is an important part of making it through these times and to the other side.

The Sky Is Falling

sacredToday’s meditation was just over twenty minutes long and a bit different than my normal meditation.   I tried another of those “meet your spirit guides” meditations from YouTube.

There’s a couple of different things that I realized from today’s meditation that might be why I’m struggling with the guided meditations of this nature.

The first thing is the fact that they don’t really do any sort of guided relaxation beforehand.  They just jump right in without any “take a breath” or “relax your muscles” or any relaxation technique before getting started.    I think that this is something that would really help me in finding that level of consciousness that would get me where I need to be in the meeting your guides part of the meditation.

The second thing that I noticed is that literally all of the meditations I’ve tried on this topic are essentially astral travel assisted connections. They all involve the whole “rising above” out of body type guidance that you are given for astral travel work.  The problem with this is that I don’t astral travel. Can’t, actually.  The prevailing theory is that it is because I’m so grounded, and so deeply rooted into that grounding, that I can’t rise into that airy un-grounded space and float free. Regardless of the reason why, though, the fact of the matter is that I did really well with the meditation right up until the point that they tried to get me into the astral plane, and then… it all fell to shit.

So… I will keep trying.  Maybe if I listen to enough of them sooner or later I will have learned enough of the non-astral methodology that I can then piece those parts together into a more grounded method that might work specifically for me.

Nine of Zephyrs - Nine of Swords - Stolen Child TarotToday’s draw is the Nine of Zephyrs (Nine of Swords) which is traditionally a representation of worries, anxieties and mental overwhelm leading to themes that do with anxiety and occasionally mental illness.

When I saw the card today, what really stuck out to me was the phrase “the sky is falling” which then brought to mind the story of Chicken Little from which that phrase originated.

This story is essentially about blowing things out of proportion which I didn’t really have a match for until this evening and the need to step back from a situation and allow others to deal with and handle it.  Normally, it’s the sort of situation I would step in and act on, but I was unable to do so in this instance because I might have been overreacting and blowing things out of proportion due of my own personal issues concerning those involved.

It was… ridiculously hard to step away.

Question
: Am I ethically obligated to improve myself?

White Sage TarotReading Summary: When you improve yourself (Page of Wands) you create a healing and stability (Four of Swords) that spreads outward to heal the world (The Sun).

Take Away:  Absolutely. As I improve myself, I subsequently improve the world around me. Ethically speaking, it is the most base and basic way in which we can improve the world and the lives of others. Butterfly effect.

Question
: What does my inner critic say to me most often?

Shadowland Tarot

Reading Summary: It picks at my scarcity issues (Four of Cups) and my fear of losing my stability (Two of Pentacles). Other two cards are advice. Be good to yourself (Empress) and lighten up (The Sun).  And, just sayin’? That Four of Cups so very speaks to me of those scarcity issues btw. LOL

Take Away:  Scarcity and my fear of things falling apart are really my biggest fears, and are also the fears that were triggered the most strongly at the beginning of this pandemic.  Although I’ve gotten a handle on those fears, that is where my inner critic tries to pick at the most when it raises its ugly head.

The cards were also kind enough to give me encouragement, though (cuz I pushed for a third card rather than letting it stick with the first two) in the form of advice, reminding me that I need to be kind to myself and make an effort to strive towards optimism when my inner critic is trying to pick at those worries.

Reassurance Needed

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long and took place in the back room of a metaphysical shop downtown before taking on a handful of clients the shop had booked for someone that never showed up.  The owner is a past employer, and called me in desperation for someone to fill in so that he wouldn’t have to cancel the line-up of clients scheduled for the day.

I was a bit nervous, as I haven’t read for a shop in a long time… not since before I’d lost my voice.  The meditation was unguided, and focused on grounding and centering, and was very helpful in getting me to the mindset and place internally that I needed to be in to do the readings.

Nine of Swords - Hush TarotToday’s draw is Nine of Swords, which is traditionally a card of struggles, conflict, tests, and trials in the area of one’s thoughts, intellect, and communication.  This very often communicates itself in themes of anxiety, depression, fears, and inner strife.

When I got this card today, the positive message was easy to find, but I wasn’t entirely sure how to relate it to my day.  But now, this evening, I’ve found that connection.   After spending the better part of three hours crawling around in the attic of my building with the fire department this evening, I now have the source of that worry that this card has appeared to reassure me about.

The appearance of the Nine of Swords in today’s draw is about not allowing worry to close you down and close you off.  The woman’s posture in the card’s depiction is all about closing in and shutting out the outside.  But sometimes, when you have worries and concerns?  It’s better to let them out and share them with others, and those others that you open up to share with are often a source of reassurance that has been needed.

Question
: How can I align with and take advantage of that energy? (Built off yesterday’s cards.)

Tarot of the Silicon Dawn

Reading Summary:  That… is a very unique Seven of Cups.  Just sayin’.   And on the note about cups…. holy cups, yeah?  Clearly, taking advantage of that building energy of this lunar cycle is all about getting in touch with and a modicum of control over my emotions.   If I want to take advantage, I will need to make sure that in the area of new experiences (Ace of Cups) I’m taking on a more dominant role (King of Cups)… and a more responsible one (Four of Cups over the Seven of Cups).

Take Away:  These cards indicate that I am getting to that point in my growth (and that point of advancing out of the fog, as well) where I need to concentrate on elements of how I am experiencing my emotions that will give me some control.   I think the need for patience is still present, as hinted at in the Four of Cups over the Seven, but at the same time, it’s time to take on some control over my path forward.

Question
: Do Spread #1

Goblin Tarot RWS VersionLeave Behind: Pipe dreams.  The Ten of Cups in this position is warning me that on the approach to spring, it will be important to keep my feet on the ground and my eyes cast forward.  Daydreams and unrealistic goals need to be set aside in order to deal with the here and now.

Take With Me:  Don’t allow disappointments to rock the footing I’ve gained.  To become “king of the castle”, sometimes you have to “overcome” and keep moving, even when shit hits the fan.

Expose and Share:  Own your thoughts and reach for clarity. Allow others to share in your vision.  Moving forward takes strength, cunning, and planning.  This can be done better when you have the input of others, as it allows you to keep in mind how you influence others when plotting your own course.

Keep Close:  It’s okay to feel vulnerable, but now is not the time to broadcast it to the world or seek the advice from others concerning these issues that create self doubt and confusion.  Instead, take this time to examine these on an internal level and work through some of it on your own.

Moral of the Story:  To perpetuate a healthy growth forward into spring I’m going to need to use the “fake it until you make it” method (interesting that this came up, as it was also present in a reading I did for someone else earlier today).   Essentially, project strength and that strength will come.  Project self control and that self control will come.  Project that you are proactive and surefooted, and that sure-footing will come.

In other words?  Stop wallowing.

Question
: What could I change to switch on my intuition?

Eight Coins Tarot

Reading Summary:  This is a warning. My intuition is already “switched on” (Seven of Swords) and I need to take time where I’m at (Hanged Man) rather than charging ahead (Chariot). The results of that charge will end up being more trouble than they’re worth (Devil).

Take Away:  When I have been doing reads on exploring meditation and developing a closer, more conscious, connection with my guides, this is always the answer that comes up.   “Patience.  Wait.  It’s not time yet.  Ignore this… and you’ll be sorry.”  Sometimes it alternates with “move at a snail’s pace”… but all in all, the answers are very consistent, and I’m listening.
