Centaurea Cyanus

Petals like
delicate tissue paper
vibrant
in calming tones
as stems stretch tall
and flower heads sway
in every little breeze
as beautiful buttons
face to the sky
and kiss the senses
with a
sweet moment
of serenity

Miraculous Details

How closely do you look
at nature’s splendor
is it just a glance
or a long glimpse
or do you lie down
among it all
and look closer still
with moss in your hair
and sweet scents
of earth
tickling your nose
How close will you get
to see the miracle
in the details…

Or will you let the wonder pass you by?

Missed Blessings

When sweetness comes
to kiss the senses
do you pause
to notice its beauty
or do you
miss it
entirely
and trample it
underfoot?

How many blessings
are lost
caught and crushed
under your boot’s treads?

The Growth Spurt

New growth
is tender
and delicate
easily squashed
and squandered
by the heartless tug
of passersby
as sheltering limbs
seek to both
protect
and expose
so that tender bits
will harden
into something
healthy and strong

New Perspective

Lean in
and look closer
to see another world
hidden
in plain sight
Shakespeare
had it right
in Hamlet’s
greatest truth…
There are more things
in heaven and earth
than are dreamt of
in your philosophy

Dianthus Barbatus

Little white eyes
tilt up toward
the summer sky
as sweet flowers
cluster and push
to nudge
each other aside
for a moment
in the spotlight
until fingers pluck
and flowers float
in an iced tea glass
for love and hope
