Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Interim Tarot 1st Edition Beyond Borders - Five of Wands

Today’s draw is the Five of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of conflict, tests, trials, and struggle in the area of one’s passions, drive, determination, principles, values, and willpower.

The Five of Wands has then been combined with the Pearly Ammonite card from the Lavish Earth Crystal Affirmation deck, which quotes Anais Nin to say, “ Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

Not all conflict is external. How many times do we misinterpret what we see in our head? Once a week? Once a day? Once an hour or a minute?

In tarot we have a thing called the “stalker card”. This is a card that repeats again and again throughout a person’s personal readings because we are missing the message. The card keeps coming over and over until we find a way to interpret the message that gets across what’s trying to be said. This is because just because you got “a message” doesn’t mean that you have gotten “the message”.

The mind does this too. It will repeat patterns of thought and bring up certain subjects over and over until we find what it is our brains are trying to tell us that we’re missing.

The message in today’s card is a reminder that sometimes those repetitive thoughts continue to play us because we haven’t found the meaning in them yet that’s waiting to be discovered. Don’t shove them away, but pause and listen instead. What is being said (or not said) that you’re missing? What message in a meeting is seeking getting your attention?

Affirmation
: “I accept with grace that certain events have led to feelings of regret or disappointment.”
Prompt : Think about an event that didn’t turn out the way you wanted or expected. What does the card you draw say about why that event happened, the way it happened, and how you can release any negative associations you have with this outcome?

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Hollow Knight Essence Tarot - Judgement Card

What feelings came up when I pulled this card?

I’m not sure what the name of this feeling is.

It’s when all eyes are on you and there’s a moment of surprise, and then something similar to shyness. Your head dips and your stomach stinks a little bit as you retreat slightly from all those gazes pointed your way. Trepidation, maybe, with a hint of embarrassment? That’s not quite right, but I don’t have the words for it.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The Judgement card is often about our lifelong path, as well as who we are and want to become. It can also, quite literally, be about judgements; our own or that of others.

The meaning of this card begs the question… Through whose eyes are you viewing this event, and through whose judgments are you perceiving it? Are you really disappointed in the outcome? Or is that disappointment because you feel someone else would be disappointed?

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The artwork for me (today, at least) is all about those big black open eyes, inscrutable and all staring out of the card in my direction. The figure on the throne looks out at me, but so does the throng below and around her.

My prompt response and reflections.

A lot of the harsh judgments and disappointments you direct toward yourself are bred through unreasonable expectations of your performance. These unreasonable expectations are not yours, but are usually spurred on by what you learned from others in your past to be “acceptable”.

When thinking of these disappointments and failures, then, it’s important to get in touch with and examine how you truly feel about them, rather than connecting with what you believe you’re supposed to feel about it.

Tarot Reading with the Interim Tarot 1st Edition Beyond Borders and Petit Lenormand Delvinia

Is it true that pleasure is the root of all true evil?

Mice, Four of Cups, Dog – Good and evil are counterbalances that often lie in subjective perspectives, rather than in grounded definitions.

Evil is its own entity, and although its roots are often fed by pleasure, evil does not originate from pleasure.

Are all emotions irrational?

Bear, Ace of Wands, Moon – Although often arbitrary and capricious, sometimes emotions are a rational response to what is going on around us and what we value.

This means that although our emotions can often be irrational, there are certain situations where they are rational as well.

Other elements included in this reading:
Scotch Pine Cone for Purging Negative Influences
Foraged Parmeliaceae Lichen for a “Breath of Fresh Air”
Bloodstone for Encouraging Fearlessness

Selenite for Purification and drawing in Positive Energy

I’m going to bed early tonight instead of fighting to stay awake, in the hopes that I can possibly catch up on a little sleep.

Leaning In

Today’s meditation was about fifteen minutes long and was an unguided meditation of breathing exercises while I did my piriformis stretching. It was done a bit later than normal because the housekeeper came early and I waited to do my meditation until after she left, but otherwise it was pretty standard and comfortable.

Interim Tarot Beyond Borders and Thera-Pets Emotional Support Animal CardsToday’s draw is the Star card, which is traditionally a representation of the connection between the different realms of the human experience (spiritual, emotional, mental, physical), as well as of the guidance that can be provided through focusing on hope and optimism.

When you combine the Thera-Pets card with the Star card, what we see as today’s message is all about that sense of optimism and hope.  It’s about working to keep that feeling alive, and consciously focusing on fostering those thoughts in your head.  Especially when you are feeling anxious and worried, dealing with anxiety or experiencing dread.

During these times is the time to really lean in to those efforts toward optimism and hope.  The rest of the time?  That’s just practice. Practice for the really tough times when you really need that hopeful and positive perspective.

Children of Litha TarotCreateThe Chariot atop Four of Coins – Stability. Take control and create stability.

This is less about me, but about helping a friend that I spoke to about an hour after this reading was finished. As often happens for me when doing readings for myself, it gave me the advice that I needed prior to knowing that I needed advice.

EvolveTemperance – Instill calm where there is chaos.

Again, this is advice given on the situation prior to the needing of advice.  The situation where this advice was needed came into the picture about an hour after this reading was first done. The guidance given helped in preparing me for what I needed to offer my friend in their time of need.

Balance – Nine of Wands and King of Cups – Make sure your boundaries are in place to keep you on steady footing, and talk to Gideon.

Still in preemptive mode as far as advice goes, this also rang true about an hour later. In hearing that I needed to have good boundaries in place, I was able to do this with less thought during my time supporting my friend… and those boundaries in turn helped me help others in this instance. In seeking Gideon out a bit later, I then was able to find the comfort that I personally needed.

This reading is a reminder that sometimes when you do a reading it won’t always ring true in the moment, but that doesn’t mean it won’t.  If given the chance, the cards can and will prepare you for things to come, sometimes without you even realizing they are doing so.

Question
: How can I best express my love for others?

Interim Tarot Beyond BordersReading Summary: Create a sense of security from a position of leadership (King of Pentacles) instead of allowing things to fall (Eight of Wands) into anarchy (Five of Swords).

Take Away: Those around me seek the stability and unflappable assurance of my support.  Although I don’t often realize that I’m offering it, or even notice, they do.  And they feel when I occasionally (if temporarily)  “abdicate the throne”.  By standing strong and being the solid (and predictable) person they know, it keeps conflict to a minimum and puts chaos on hold.

Living Without a Goal

IMG_4361Today’s meditation was skipped, or at least I think that it was. I am playing catch-up and I’m pretty sure I didn’t meditate on the 3rd.  In fact, almost positive.

Transient Light Tarot and Thera-Pets Emotional Support Animal CardsToday’s draw is The Nurturer (Empress) card, which is traditionally a culmination of all the Queens of the tarot into a nurturing, earth based energy representing the sacred feminine, creative spark, and mother earth.

The clam with its pearl is the representation of the Empress in this instance, and I really connect with this representation.  The clam cradles a grain of sand, and over time under the pressure and protection of the clam, a pearl is formed from the calcium given to that piece of sand and built upon it in a form of shell.

The nurturing energy in the Empress is the focus of today’s message, and when combined with the Thera-Pets card, what we see here is encouragement. Encouragement that it’s okay to not know what the hell you’re doing every step of your journey through life. It’s okay to just be going through the motions, waiting for inspiration or purpose that doesn’t come.   Sometimes?  Just living in the moment is more than enough, and you don’t have to be on top of things 100% of the time.

Questions for September 1st thru 5th

Interim Tarot Beyond BordersWhat helps me stay positive?

Eight of Swords atop Queen of Cups – Turning a blind eye to negative crap when able. Sometimes in doing this, you can turn a negative into a boon, as being distant from the issue allows for a less biased view and a more more perspective.

How can I appreciate all my talents?

Strength – You can better appreciate all of your talents by staying in touch with what works for you, and by working on  better understanding the influence you have on others.

What do I need in order to create success?

Three of Wands – Motivation. Sometimes enthusiasm lags, and that’s normal, but you’ll need to rekindle your enthusiasm and motivation to create success.

How can I shine in the world?

Four of Discs – Lean into your strengths allows you to shine more brightly in the world. Instead of stressing on all of the things you aren’t good at, focus on where you excel. You have a grounded and steady strength to share.

How do I inspire others?

Knight of Swords – You show others what it looks like to focus on your goals and go after them. To some, this makes you appear impulsive, but to others, they see success through determination and action.

Forest Fae Messages Oracle and Transient Light TarotHow did I first develop perfectionist tendencies?
Walk On the Wind and Five of Wands Rx

I first developed perfectionist tendencies through the inability to do anything right in the eyes of others, and constant influx between aggression and neglect that came as a repercussion of those failures.

How has my perfectionism kept me safe?
