The Camel and The Straw

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Story's Doll Telling TarotToday’s draw is the Ten of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of burden, overwhelm, burnout, and unrealistic expectations or obligations.

Look at those bulging eyes and gaping mouth. The apples they wear his hats on their heads are clearly too heavy for those long and skinny necks. Instead of taking their hats off, they stand tall and struggle. The thing is, are the hats really worth the struggle?

There are lots of little inconsequential things in life that we feel obligated to carry, regardless of if they are suited to us or not. All of these little things pile up over time like a pocket change tossed into a jar until suddenly there are so many little things that their weight becomes substantial, and they then contribute to feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. And, because we see each of these little things as individuals instead of part of a bigger pile, we don’t recognize them as a problem.

Today’s card asks us what are you weighing yourself self down with that you could set aside? What are you doing for appearances only, or out of a feeling of unrealistic obligation, that is one of the very last bits of straw that the camel’s back can handle before it breaks?

Questions for September 18th

Oracle of the Great MysticsWhat do you see in technicolor?

Your Path of Light – You are always looking forward toward what you want and who you want to be, where you want your life to go. You follow your moral compass and allow it to guide you along this path. This is where your hope resides, and your optimism as well.

What do you see in black & white?

Whispering Wind – You see the present as black and white with very little chance for change in the moment. You see the past as done instead of something that can be molded into what you want it to have been.

Finding Balance Between the Two – Just as you see the future as fluid and full of opportunity, so too can your past be this way if you open up to seeing the past from other people’s perspectives instead of just your own (Goddess of Compassion). The past is only stagnant because you do not seek to explore  other viewpoints and perspectives of those that were there in the moment with you at the time. If you are open to doing this, then the past can be changed through how you see it and remember it (Meandering River).

Story's Doll Telling Tarot

Amber – Where do I need to work on my emotions to create more balance in my life?

Ace of Swords Rx – Keep an eye on your inner narrative (sword comes out of mouse’s head). How you talk to yourself is important to your emotional balance (stance of legs on mouse), and you need to keep it uplifting (clown nose) instead of allowing it to drift into negative territory.

Cedar – How can I use my present day fortitude to strengthen my future protection?

Strength Rx – Remember that there are always going to be people that will try to manipulate you (inner angle of darts toward the nutcracker). Pay attention now (eyeball-like bullseye) to those around you so that you can identify who those people are. This way, in the future when you are feeling out of touch and less aware, you will not fall victim to their machinations (music box key).

Marigold – Where should I focus on my health in order to develop a happier outlook?

Princess of Swords – The most important place you need to focus on your health for a happier outlook is in your mental health. Make sure you are not turning a deaf ear (the headphones) to positivity and optimism (figure is looking up), as you need these things to combat the sharp edges (sharp crystal jutting out of the bubbles) of your pessimism and that negative inner narrative that whispers in your head. Make sure that you are letting others help lift you up (the mice).

Lapis Lazuli – What hidden truth can self awareness bring to light in my life?

The Empress Rx – You neglect yourself and your need to connect with nature (disconnect of top of Matryoshka with solid foundation), because you feel that you are undeserving (stern expression on the matryoshka’s face).

Walnut – How can I be more discerning in picking positive friendships?

Eight of Disks – Use past experience to your advantage as you take care to keep your circle of friends small and close (trunk looks like a hunched figure wielding a tree trimmer). You don’t need a lot of friends, you need quality friends.

Sapphire – How can I best discern between logical thought and true wisdom?

Ace of Cups – Consult (two figures in the cup) your emotions to provide input (golden light coming from above), as they can help influence your perspective, even on things with a solid foundation based in logic (golden glow around the base of the cup).

Yarrow – How can I facilitate my move from a place of trauma into a place of healing?

Ten of Wands – This isn’t something that you need to burden yourself with right now (too heavy hats on skinny necks). You have more than enough already on your plate as the holiday rush approaches, adding more weight on at this time would be too much (the nutcrackers’ bulging eyes and gaping mouths).

I juggled work so that I could spend a bit more time playing with Gid today.  I just… really need the connection, no matter how much work I need to get done.

No Pressure… Don’t Push

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Tarot of the Drowning WorldToday’s draw is the Temperance card, which is traditionally a representation of moderation, measured efforts, balance, and patience.

I see this sentiment expressed in the imagery of this card, with a girl with wings too small to create lift floating in a body of water among flowers. Should she move too quickly she will get tangled up in the vegetation, or should she fill her cup and pitcher too full she may become too weighed down and sink. Therefore, she must take things slow and take care to be moderate in not just her movements, but also in how much she takes from the water she floats within.

For me personally, the Temperance card is often a “self-care” card, as moderation in general is something that I struggle with a great deal. When this card comes up in personal readings it invariably means that I am going overboard in some manner that is not healthy for me. And thus, the card appears to remind me that I need to take a more measured and temperate pace.

So the question becomes, where do you need to monitor your pace and take things more slowly?

For me, although it’s time to start catching up on orders from my time off, today’s card is a reminder to make sure that I don’t go overboard or allow myself to become stressed out by limitations of how much I can get done in the hours available to me.

Questions for September 16th thru 20th – TO SHARE

World of Visions Tarot and Envolées Sauvages OracleWhat do I have an abundance of?

Three of Pentacles – You have an abundance of creative ability to manifest ideas into reality.

The collaboration and teamwork aspect of the Three of Pentacles is missing from the imagery of this card, but that too ties into what you have an abundance of. You have others in your life that want to help you in your creative endeavors, you have only to reach out to them and allow them in.

How can I avoid being shut off from generosity?

Page of Wands atop The Emperor – Rather than being bossy about what you need, learn to share your passions with others in a way that invites them to join you, and opens up a creative and receptive environment for all involved.

Where can I be more compassionate?

Eight of Swords – You need to be more compassionate with yourself. Your self-recriminations hold you back from seeing just how much you have to offer and how good a person you truly are. Each negative inner narrative ties your hands and blinds your eyes to seeing yourself how others see you.

Where can I be more charitable with my…

TimeVulture’s Dance – In order to have time to be charitable, you have to shed away those things that are not working for you. There are only so many hours in the day and if you want to be more charitable with your time, something has to go to make some room.

FeelingsThe Black Swan – Again we see an encouragement to be charitable with yourself and how  you see yourself. You are not the ugly duckling nor are you a clumsy oaf. You glide through life with far more grace than you realize.

ThoughtsBeauty of Creation – You need to take time to appreciate your accomplishments, including those things that you may not have done as well as you would have liked, but still managed to do. Some things are a learning process, and there is accomplishment even in these moments.

How can I help others?
(Oddly fitting since the cards managed to turn the above questions to be all about you.)

Seven of Swords and Glorious Storms – Use your past experiences and the skills that you have gained from them to advocate for others that are in need of help. Due to your experiences, you have developed a unique set of skills that can be of great value in helping others through difficult times.

Tarot of the Drowning WorldHow can I silence my inner critic?

Two of Cups – Connect with others who love and care about you and ask for their perspective. This way you have something with which to combat your inner critic’s voice.

What needs to be different in my life?

The Lovers – You need to work on making healthier choices for yourself, instead of either going with the flow or allowing your self-destructive tendencies too much slack in the reins.

How can I love myself more?

King of Coins – Look at how far you have come and how much you have accomplished and appreciate these things. There will always be further to go, but you’ve built a good foundation that you should be proud of. Take time to appreciate these things instead of setting them aside as inconsequential.

Making Time for Play

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Tarot de Marseille MamanmiyukiToday’s draw is the Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of innocence, enthusiasm, adventure, newness and fresh starts, carefree outlooks, and spontaneity.

What stands out to me the strongest in the imagery of the card today is that what is usually a dog with the Fool actually appears like it might be a cat in this image.

When my cat is feeling the urge to play and wants to involve me, she will chase me everywhere I go and try to nip at my feet and heels in an effort to invite me to play with her. This is what I see in today’s card, which asks each of us, where are you invited to have a little fun and play a little more?

For me personally, this is also an encouragement to set aside a little time to play with Miss Luna today.

Questions for September 16th and 17th

Bones of the Bonestone Tarot and The TreeLore OracleWhat is exposed?

Queen of Wands – Your drive and desire to inspire and empower others is on display for all to see. You put yourself out there in so many ways just for this purpose.

What is hidden?

Six of Cups – Your past. Especially the bittersweet parts of it. As much as you share with others, there is just as much you choose to keep to yourself.

Finding Balance Between the Two – Be discerning and cleanse from your life those things that are of no use to you so that you can better align with the things that are not just of use but suit you well (Tamarack). The past is gone and although there are things that we carry forward from it, they should be the healthy things that assist in thriving and helping others thrive… not the unhealthy ones that would hold us back (White Ash).

What can you add to your life?

The Magician – You could do with a bit more confidence and motivation in your life, carefully applied in just the right places.

What might you subtract?

Wheel of Fortune – Changes do not always have to be accompanied by unpredictability or create an imbalance. Many times what is coming can be seen ahead of time and prepared for because it is a repeating cycle rather than an out-of-the-blue shift.

Finding Balance Between the Two – Be practical with your time and energy by preparing ahead for what is to come (Tulip Poplar). Do what you can to foster a sense of peace in your life, including meditation and sharing with Gideon things that are bothering you so that you expel them instead of letting them linger and fester (White Pine).

Questions for September 16th thru 18th – INITIATE

Tarot de Marseille MamanmiyukiThink of something you enjoy or love about your life and keep this in your thoughts. Ask the cards: How can I grow within my joys and build on what I love?

Stay true to yourself and your moral compass (Judgment) and take the time to explore your intuition more in depth. There is so much more to learn if you are willing to dive for it (La Papesse).

These cards speak of potential, and an unlimited ability to delve into areas of secret knowledge, and expand your own in doing so without sacrificing your values and principles in the process.

What am I guided to initiate right now for when Mercury stations direct (October 1st}?

Although the holiday rush is coming, you’re going to need a little bit of extra cash before it swings into gear (Six of Coins atop For of Coins). Take care that you are not going overboard on spending right now so that the cash will be available to you when you need it (Le Diable).

What is required to grow past initiation…

Seven of Batons atop Knight of Swords – A little bit of impulse and ambition, and a whole lot of conviction.

towards creation…

King of Batons – Motivation, not just for yourself but to share with others so that they can join you on the journey.

to reach finalization?

Getting a Move On

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Förhäxa TarotToday’s draw is the Eight of Fire (Wands), which is traditionally a representation of swifts action, alacrity, immediacy, and speed.

Sometimes you have to “move it or lose it”, and that’s what today’s card is all about. Not everything can be done at a sedate and slow pace. Flying, for example, as what is seen in the illustration of today’s card, requires lift provided by speed, whether it be the speed of the wind, the speed of the bird, or a combination of both.

In today’s card, we are invited to look in our lives for those things that are requiring our immediate attention. What needs started or done now? What can’t be put off? The Eight of Fire invites us to examine these things, but also to take action to deal with them as well.

Dungeons & Dragons Tarot and Woven Wisdom OracleYour Addiction – Medusa – You have a habit of using your alone time in unhealthy ways. Although there is a true need for alone time in your general make-up, it’s not healthy to isolate yourself too much, no matter how tempting that may be.

How to Introduce Moderation – Izanagi & Izanami – Spend more time with those it feels good to be around. Even just allowing them to chill as a part of your life has a positive impact.

You – Page of Swords – You love to learn new things and explore. Imagination has no limits for you and your curiosity is boundless.

Your Annoyance – The Moon – Delays and uncertainty sometimes can get in the way of all you want to explore and pursue. These roadblocks often self inflicted and always frustrating.

What To Do About It – Seven of Coins atop The Chariot – Work on staying enthusiastic through the long haul. Just because you can learn new things (reflects back to the Page) quickly doesn’t always mean that you should. Sometimes it’s better to take your time.

Förhäxa TarotHow do I grow from my mistakes?

Eight of Earth – You grow from your mistakes by getting beat over the head by them again and again until you get it right. You’re stubborn, and sometimes that means it takes more than once to learn a better way. There’s nothing wrong with that, it just means you end up with more experiences than most.

When do I trust myself?

The Chariot atop Elder of Water – You trust yourself to guide other’s tempers back to grounded when normally emotionally balanced people tip over into the energy of being stubborn and unreasonable. (Taming Gideon’s inner Grumpus, for example.)

What can I do about the fear of being wrong?

Death – Being wrong is something universal; it happens to everyone eventually. Take these moments when you are wrong not as roadblocks, but as opportunities for change, transition, and/or transformation.

Don’t Be Shy

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Untamed Mystery Tarot Illusion EditionToday’s draw is the Page of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of a receptive omega energy, personality, or person in the area of one’s emotions, relationships, imagination, creativity, and intuition. This often translates into themes that have to do with exploring new creative endeavors, letting your imagination free to wander, and revisiting emotions and relationships for further exploration and consideration.

In this card, the brain in the cup corresponds to the pattern of markings on the top of the fish’s head as he winds around the cup’s stem and finds an eye peering out at him from the foliage.

Sometimes when we are so deep in our own pursuits we forget there are others around us… and sometimes we are far too aware. Today’s card is a reminder that we can’t know what others are thinking when they look at us. Don’t stifle your imagination and creativity just because you fear what others might think if they were to see you or are watching.

Questions for September 14th thru 16th

Broken Mirror Tarot Marseille Edition and Mission du Vie w/ ExpansionWhat do you believe to be true?

Temperance – You believe that moderation really can work for you if you let it. You struggle a lot with instilling moderation in your life. In your interests and hobbies, in your work. In your physical demands and pain management. In so many areas, you push too hard and too fast. But you know there is another way and believe in it… even if you struggle to implement it in your life.

What may be false?

The Tower – That every change is going to be a huge ordeal or a catastrophe. It might feel that way, but it’s not true.

Finding Balance Between the TwoLe Communicant / Semaine Prochaine – Don’t keep your struggles to yourself. Instead, be open with others. Remember as well that a bit of procrastination can be one way to implement moderation, as long as it’s done in a healthy way.

Do this solo.

Eight of Staves Rx – Slowing down can absolutely be a solo endeavor.

Join forces for this.

Four of Cups – Just make sure that if you start to feel a downward tug on your emotions, that you reach out to others to help lift you back up.

Finding Balance Between the TwoLe Rêveur / Retard Interne – Self awareness is an important step in knowing when you can handle alone time… and when you can’t. If you have your head in the clouds, you may miss the internal warning signs that it’s time for a change.

What do you see as half-full?

The Judgement – You feel optimistic in the fact that you are on your right path spiritually and in your development into a better person. You feel that each day is a step on this journey and positive progress towards self-betterment.

What do you see as half-empty?

Nine of Staves Rx – It is nearly impossible for you to feel safe. Even as you work to tear down boundaries in order to connect more with others, new walls form due to feelings of vulnerability.

Finding Balance Between the TwoÉvénements Imprévus / Défis / Juillet – Keep in mind that your defense mechanisms are in place due to past events that have happened to you. Your responses to these events and vulnerability that you feel because of them are not unreasonable. It doesn’t make you a bad person to be cautious.

Cirque du Tarot - The FoolToday’s draw is the Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of innocence, enthusiasm, newness and fresh starts, carefree outlooks, and spontaneity.

People often associate the Fool with being “foolish”, but sometimes it’s not about being foolish at all, but about seeing things from a new and fresh perspective and diving in to that perspective wholeheartedly.

Just as alcohol cushions a drunkard from injury in a fall, so too can optimistic enthusiasm cushion “The Fool” when he leaps before he looks.

Where in your life could use a bit more optimistic enthusiasm?  Where do you need to look up and not listen to the naysayers, but instead try anyway… just to see what happens? In what endeavor could that optimistic enthusiasm cushion your own stumbles and falls?  Today’s card is a reminder that sometimes when you pour on a bit of optimistic enthusiasm you can carry that sentiment right on past the failures and roadblocks, breezing by them without a care in the world.
