where they find
a spot to sit
and never again
do they roam
from meditative
skeleton
to a raven
on a perch
they linger past
october
to stay
throughout the year

with ears perked
and listening
for the key to slide
into the lock
and turn
to announce
my arrival
and send her running
to say hello
and rush eagerly
to greet me
at the end of the rug
by my front door

I am for you
and you for me
and together
we wander
from glacier stream
to forest glen
from mossy grove
to soft, soft sand
as water washes
between our toes
and bits of shell
tumble to and fro
while fingers catch
and lace with another
as we walk along
we belong together

of positivity
shine like starlight
in the darkness
creating
a roadmap
to follow
one foot
in front of the other
as the struggle
to stay out
of the pit

has come
and with it
a little fun
with round one
of decorations
galore
hung outside
the door
and lots of sweets
on every counter
and filling
every bowl
a season of temptation
and gluttony
and more.

Where should we go
he asked with a grin
Tahiti or Timbuktu?
Whistler or Munich?
And with all
the choices
and potential
to see
all I could say
when he looked
at me
with curious eyes
and a crooked smile
is
“Lets go home.”
