Out the window
the world
appears warm
and welcoming
if a bit barren
from the passing
of fall…
right until
the door is opened
and you realize
it is fifteen below
Fascinated
I stare as
trinkets emerge
and the world
is transformed
from the every day
into something
more
as lights twinkle
and glitter shines
with each box
we open
and memories
are unearthed
to remind us all
of familial worth
It is in
the moments
of stillness
and quiet
that we find
fascination
in those details
that otherwise
we would never see
or experience
and in the pause
focus
gives us a glimpse
into a world
beyond our own
Clouds roll in
and temperatures
drop
and as crisp air
slips into lungs
pulled deep
to cleanse
fingers reach
to touch
fingertips
with yours
to tease
light touches
along your palm
before sliding into
your larger hand
In the forest
among the stones
even the moss
shifts its colors
to greet winter’s
chilly nip
with a
fuzzy red beard
like a blanket
as the
most tender
of green
is put to bed
until spring
