Pick and Choose Your Battles

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Ema Poetica Tarot - Five of SwordsToday’s draw is the Five of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of struggles, strife, test, trials, or conflict in the area of ones thoughts, logic, education, intellect, or ambitions.

What stands out strongest in the imagery of this card is how the tips of the three floating swords are tied together with wings.  The other two sit point down in the sand, left behind.

You can’t do everything at once, just as that set of wings can’t carry all five swords at once.  You have to pick and choose your battles.

Philosophical Question for August 3rd
: Are you more of a Dreamer or a Believer?

Postmondrian Tarot - Ace of Cups, Page of Swords, Seven of PentaclesReading Summary: I want to be a dreamer in my exploration of my emotions has begun to set me on that path (Ace of Cups), but my brain still has a habit of getting in the way (Page of Swords). It’s a work in progress (Seven if Pentacles).

Take Away: To be fair, I didn’t really understand this question… and I still don’t. The cards have given me a clear answer, though, regardless of my lack of understanding.

The answer is that as much as I want to be a dreamer, and am working towards being more of one than ever before in my past, my natural inclination is towards logic and that “seeing is believing” mentality.

Ema Poetica TarotWhat is my greatest strength?

Page of Wands atop King of Cups Rx – The ability to tap into your enthusiasm and curiosity regardless of the fact that the connection you have developed with your emotions is not matured or or particularly stable yet.

How to summon more willpower in my life?

Slow down, cowboy (Knight of Pentacles). You have plenty of willpower (The Emperor). Instead of reaching for more, you need to make sure that you’re not overstepping the healthy boundaries you’ve set for yourself (Nine of Wands).

Weekly Creativity Prompt – The Magician

Prompt: Pull the card from your deck(s) that matches the card posted below. Compare the imagery between the card provided and the cards(s) from your own deck(s). How would you read them differently and why?

Tarot of the Hidden Realm - The MagicianTarot of the Hidden Realm – Right, so… Perfection, for me, is not complete without a flaw. This card is essentially the “flaw” in an otherwise perfect deck that makes the deck truly perfect.  (This deck is my “Soul Deck” and thus, perfect for me… not in general.)

I have issues with this Magician.  Issues! I tell you.  Because when I look at him? I see a porn star. A gigolo. A male whore.  That’s what I see, and I’m unable to see anything else.   So yes… he’s a man with all the tools (and what tools they are!) and all the skills as well. He’s ready to go, knows what he wants, and is not just well suited for his work but very good at it.  Interpreting this card leaves me with an awareness that not everyone’s goals and values are going to align with everyone else’s and sometimes you have to focus on what’s right for you and only you.

The Magician in the Four Twenty Tarot, Mystical Medleys Tarot, and Ema Poetica Tarot

Four Twenty Tarot – Classic imagery in a non-classic artform, the Magician in this card is empowered (and a bit baked) and has all the tools they need at their disposal including the four elements that lie on the table and the smoking pipe in her hand as well. Around her sprouts her desires, manifested into reality. I would see this imagery as encouragement to go after that which holds value to you, that you have all you need to accomplish what you want in life if you use your skills, abilities, and tools wisely.

Ema Poetica Tarot – All elements are again accounted for in this card, as is growth in the form of flowers, and the addition of an all-seeing-eye that speaks to me of a greater sense of awareness of the world around them than what is seen in the previous two cards. Not only is the Magician determined and equipped, but they are aware of the world at large and will see hurdles coming and adapt to them to ensure success.   I would read this card as a reminder that there is more to success than determination and skill, and that sometimes to obtain one’s goals we must look outside ourselves at what’s going on around us as well.

Mystical Medleys Tarot – Singular focus is the theme I see in this card.  There is still growth in the flowers at the Magician’s feet, and all the tools are there for his use.  But instead of looking -out- at the world, the eye in this card is the Magician’s head and it is singularly focused upon what he holds and what it can do for him.  Where the Ema Poetica card speaks of looking outward, this one speaks of bearing down one’s focus and buckling down for the effort it will take to manifest what they desire.

Hard Earned Stability and Abundance

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Mystical Medleys Tarot - Ten of PentaclesToday’s draw is the Ten of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of hard earned success, accomplishment, abundance, and stability.

You are wealthy in so many ways.  Financially, you work hard for your money, but what you do with that money is where your wealth truly lies, for you use it to create security and stability for yourself and others.

Enjoy what you have.

You’ve worked hard to get where you are and need to take time to enjoy it with others instead of constantly leaning into the next challenge.

Questions for August 1st and 2nd

Four Twenty Tarot - Two of Wands, Queen of Wands, Nine of CupsWhere can I be more assertive?

Nine of Cups – You can benefit from being more assertive in remembering that the things you want aren’t frivolous, but well earned and deserved. It’s okay to enjoy the things that make you happy.

What am I still angry about?

Queen of Wands – You get frustrated with yourself concerning personal stunted growth due to lack of support from those that were meant to not just support but inspire. You often feel that you are playing catch up because you did not get that support when you needed it, but instead those people pushed you in directions that weren’t for you, but rather aligned with their own values and ideals.

What can I do to help myself process this anger in a healthy way?

Three of Wands – Look at it. Examine it. Plot a course forward.  Nothing gets done just by stewing on it and doing nothing.

Mystical Medleys Tarot - High Priestess, Eight of Cups, TemperanceHow can I slow down in life?

Temperance – With moderation, and by taking care that you don’t go so far with slowing down to the point you end up getting caught in stagnancy.

What stops me from slowing down?

Eight of Cups – You struggle with walking away, even when it causes you distress or angst to stay.  Letting go is not one of those things that comes easily to you.

How can I pause and notice more?

The High Priestess – Remember that when you slow down, your intuition and subconscious has more room to speak. Both of these voices are very important to you, so you need to make sure that you are making space for them.

One Thing at a Time

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Hilda Tarot - TemperanceToday’s draw is the Temperance card, which is traditionally a representation of patience, moderation,

All those thoughts of all the things that you need to get done need to be set aside today.

Yes, you have a lot on your plate, but today is an orders day and you need to focus on your orders, not all the other crap that needs to be accomplished.

You can return to these other projects and responsibilities another day, once today’s responsibilities have been dealt with and put to bed.

How can I better connect with my inner child?

Complacency will get you nowhere (Seven of Wands). Make sure you continue to look forward so that you can learn what you really want (Page of Swords) and what you need to watch out for that will work against you (Ten of Cups Rx).

Hilda TarotWhat unknown path am I invited to explore this month?

Seven of Swords and Seven of Cups – Too much dithering will steal away your enjoyment. Lean into decisiveness this month instead.

What destination can exploring this path lead me to?

The Tower, Nine of Pentacles atop Death – By continuing to be decisive you are setting yourself up for the major changes that need to take place to come at a much easier pace. You will end up not just successful in the transition, but also you will find pleasure, contentment, and a sense of luxury waiting for you in the end result.

Why am I guided to undertake this journey or explore this path?

Four of Swords and Justice – This time of year is your downtime, which allows you to have the time and energy to do these extra projects without it negatively affecting your business and finances.

First Harvest 2022 – Lammas

Today is Lammas, which is known as the First Harvest of the year. This day marks the transition into the harvest season of August, September, and October (of which there is a Second Harvest and Last Harvest that correspond to these months).

Lammas

This holiday is often called Lammas, Lughnasadh, or Lugh, although I usually just refer to it as the First Harvest. On my path, it celebrates the beginning of Summer’s decline and ramping up of the busy season where we begin to reap in the abundance that the bounty of summer’s energies has encouraged to grow and flourish.

Like with new moons and full moons, I usually do a spread to check in with myself and give myself some direction for the next couple of months for each solstice, equinox, and other Sabbats. This spread is an adaptation of my Self Care Saturday spread, so there are sure to be  some similarities in how it is read. The focus of this spread, though, is not about Self Care, but rather about progress and my path. The time period is also longer, reaching through the next handful of weeks until the celebration of the upcoming Second Harvest (aka. Mabon, Autumnal Equinox) in September.

Lammas Tarot Reading for the First Harvest with the Pagan Otherwords Tarot, Compendium of Witches Oracle, and Herbal Healing Oracle Deck Vol 1 & 2

Theme of the SeasonLammas, Waxing Crescent Moon, Elder (Sambucus nigra)

In this card a woman dances among sunflowers, celebrating in her harvest with the product of her labors cradled close under one arm and boline in the other hand ready to reap what she’s sown. There is pride in the angle of her jaw and tilt of her head, strength in her posture, and voluptuous elegance in her form.

The Waxing Crescent Moon is a symbol of growth, creativity, and attainment and welcomes the energies of positivity and expansion into one’s life.  It is a time for welcoming in new habits, new themes, and for leaning forward into changes that you wish to control the direction of with your actions and will.

The Elder (Sambucus nigra) is a tree of transitions and change, guarding liminal spaces and providing purification and protection within the transitional places that we travel between. The dried bits of this plant can be used for spellwork involving physical and emotional healing, as well as hex breaking, purification, and protection.

When looking at these three cards together, the theme that I see here is one of healing through progress.  You are at a place in your life and upon your physical path where you have choices to make and these cards encourage you to lean hard into positivity and optimism.  Don’t allow yourself to step out of the light, but instead take an active role in making sure your harvests this year are abundant and plentiful.

EarthFour of Wands – You are comfortable and relaxed in your path forward at this time. You know what needs done and have a solid plan as your foundation.  Use this energy to carry you toward your goals rather than wallowing in the comfort in more languid ways.

AirNine of Swords – Careful that you don’t let your worries become hurdles that hold you back.  Negative thoughts and a pessimistic inner dialogue won’t help you in making progress at this time.  Better to set these things aside so that you can move more freely and continue to charge forward toward your goals.

WaterThe Moon Rx – Moments of uncertainty can feed into negativity. Make sure that you are not giving uncertainty the chance to grow and thrive in your life. If you have to “fake it ’til you make it”?  Do so.

FireKnight of Pentacles – Business is slow right now and that’s a good thing.  Don’t become restless during the lull, but instead use this time wisely on other things.  It won’t last forever and you want to work on what you can get done now so that when things pick back up you can feel a sense of accomplishment from the slow season.

WaningThe Memory and Pruning – It’s time to set aside self reflection and deep exploration of inner thoughts and feelings. Action is needed, and you can’t stand in stillness and mull things over, and -also- act at the same time.

WaxingThe Explorer and Mirror – Movement and knowing yourself.  This is the theme you need to lean into at this time.  You know what you want and need, and it’s time to take the steps and action to reach the fulfillment you seek.
