Weekly Creativity Prompt – Stichomancy and Tarot

Prompt: “Grab the nearest book (or your favorite) and fan through the pages. Randomly stop somewhere along the way. Close your eyes and let your finger land on the page the book is open to. Whatever sentence is under your finger, keep it in mind while you then pull a card. Consider how the sentence from the book and the tarot card may relate to each other, and what message the two together may be trying to say.

We can enthusiastically engage without putting any human filter of cynicism, fear, or expectation on the proceedings, and this our experiences will be fresh and dynamic, enabling us to quickly grow in confidence.  – Spiritwalking by Poppy Palin

Spiritwalking by Poppy Palin and The Hermit from the MIMIT Tarot - Stichomancy and TarotQuote combined with The Hermit – Close your eyes and trust what you feel guiding you from within. Outside influences are not as important as that inner guidance, and the more you listen to your intuition, the stronger your intuition will become.  It’s only through reaching within ourselves and truly getting to know ourselves that we can grow into a greater sense of self-confidence.

Weekly Creativity Prompt – Death

Prompt: “Pull the Death card from your deck(s). Compare the imagery between the card provided below and the card(s) from your own deck(s). How would you read them differently and why?

Death Card from the Modern Love TarotModern Love Tarot – When I look at the imagery in this card, I see vanity, and how very fleeting beauty can be. That, in turn, speaks to me of the need to cherish the beauty in our lives while it is there, for it will not last forever… just as everything is temporary, so too is that.  The advice I see in this card is about cherishing the good so that you can hold onto  memories of these good things once things change.

Death Card in the Healing Waves Tarot, Dive To You Tarot, and Seasonal Fox Tarot Day Edition

Healing Waves Tarot – A brand new eco-system using the skull of the dead as its foundations is what I see in this card, and it speaks to me about what comes after loss. Change and loss create a void, and in time that void is filled with something new.  We cannot have that something new that is to come until we have gone through the loss that precedes it.  I would read this card as a reminder of what to look forward to, and a reassurance that something more is to come to fill the void left by what has been lost.

Dive To You Tarot – With change comes loss, and with loss often comes the painful feelings of grief. This card focuses on one’s grief, and encourages us to not shut it out but to experience it and process it. It’s okay to cry, or even rail at the universe for those things we have lost.  It’s a part of letting go and processing what has been taken away and/or left behind by change that is upon us . It speaks of healthy processing rather than burying one’s feelings in the face of change.

Seasonal Fox Tarot Day Deck –  A fox looks back and considers the shadows of the past and what is lost. In lingering too long, the fox is also then cast in shadow.  Although, after change has happened, it is okay to look back now and then, make sure you do not linger in the past.  Doing so keeps us from embracing the future and making the most of what is to come.  When you consider living in the past instead of seeking the future, a part of  your future dies along with what you’re already leaving behind.

Weekly Creativity Prompt – The Hanged Man

Prompt: “Pull the Fool card from your deck(s). Compare the imagery between the card provided below and the card(s) from your own deck(s). How would you read them differently and why?

Modern Love Tarot - The Hanged ManModern Love Tarot – I lie with my head at the foot of my bed when I am meditating, and also during any type of daytime nap.  It allows me to open my eyes and immediately orient myself to the fact that it’s daytime and not morning.  This is what this card reminds me of, as it speaks of different perspectives providing you with different feedback.  Feedback that allows you to orient and prepare yourself.  The Hanged Man in this deck is about allowing yourself to step aside to consider new perspectives, but is also about how those new perspectives influence your day to day and your reactions to the world around you.  It asks… how can changing your perspective help you in navigating your world a little easier?

Lunalapin Tarot, Britt's Third Eye Tarot, Sasuraibito Tarot

Lunalapin Tarot – The imagery in this card is classic, regardless of the fact it’s a bunny hanging from the tree instead of a man. With the sun behind him, the bunny hangs inverted and sees the world from another perspective where everything is reversed. His wide stretched whiskers indicate that the rabbit looks out on this new view with interest, taking in everything he can see.  The imagery in this card is about gathering information and taking the time to really look at a situation from all angles instead of from our own personal perspective alone.

Britt’s Third Eye Tarot – The splayed fingers and cupped palm of the hand featured in the imagery of this card speaks of the stress and strain of dangling by that appendage. The owner of the hand isn’t hanging peacefully, but caught in the rope’s grip and held tight, forced to stillness instead of it being a choice. In this card, we see the the Hanged Man’s pause as something to be caught in instead of as a choice. The pause is a necessity… possibly one forced upon us.  Here we are encouraged to see this pause for what it is… opportunity, even if also perhaps an unwelcome inconvenience.

Sasuraibito Tarot – Here in this Hanged Man, we see the consequence of lingering too long in our pursuit of perspectives beyond our own.  Although seeing things from different perspectives is a good thing, if you spend too long doing so, you miss the opportunity to use these perspectives in any useful way… just as the man in this card has hung so long from the tree that he has begun to waste away while the world weeps for his lost opportunities.  Don’t pause for so long that it becomes a detriment to you and your goals.

Weekly Creativity Prompt – The Fool

Prompt: “Pull the Fool card from your deck(s). Compare the imagery between the card provided below and the card(s) from your own deck(s). How would you read them differently and why?

Modern Love Tarot - The FoolModern Love Tarot – In the imagery of this card, it looks a lot like the figure is working on a love spell.  The thing is?  Most people realize with a bit of thought and experience that love spells nearly always backfire.  You can’t force someone to love you.

The figure in this card has not yet learned that lesson, and so plunges head long into the endeavor without realizing the dangers or the consequences. This card tells us to take time looking at the methods we’re using to reach our goals and make sure that they’re sound. Don’t plunge forward without a good deal of thought.

The Fool in the Beyond Tarot, Tarot DNAxCAT, and The Little Nemo Tarot

Beyond Tarot – The skeleton heads down a dark path with a smile on his face, not intimidated by the darkness even though all they have for light is a single flickering candle.   They continue to dive forward, seeking the new and exciting. Intrepid and moving forward eagerly.  This card speaks of exploration and curiosity, and encourages the querent to dive in and explore without fear.

Tarot DNA x CAT – Boundless energy and a sense of effervescent adventure fill the imagery of this card.  The cat is full of a sense of adventure with the sky and sea at their back and new adventures to the forefront.  The features of the cat are filled with enthusiasm, and the little ghost joins in with an expression of wonder as they bound forward eagerly. This card is all about enthusiastic adventure, and welcomes that energy into the querent’s life.

The Little Nemo Tarot -The figure on this card sits in contrition, a dunce cap sitting on the bench beside them. Sometime when we act too hastily we make mistakes and make a fool out of ourselves. This card asks the querent where in their life are they acting impulsively and possibly going to end up feeling as if they fucked up later on when everything’s said and done.

The Power of Olympus Tarot - Naiad, The Devil, The Magician

“Hey, man, lighten up!”, I say with a laugh and a shrug. “Sometimes we all have to just go with the flow.” (Naiad)

“I had every intention of taking my time coming to meet up with you, as there was still plenty for me to deal with back there on the other side, and yet? It was taken out of my hands.”  (The Devil)

“You could always send me back.” (The Magician)

Weekly Creativity Prompt – Different Scenarios

Prompt: “The purpose of this activity is to practice interpreting small spreads by combining card meanings, symbols and intuition. We will all interpret the same cards based on a few different (imaginary) situations. A 3 card spread will be posted together with 2 more specific scenarios. It’s your choice which scenario you’d prefer to use, or if you’d rather do a general reading of these cards as for an imaginary querent.

Sasuraibito Tarot

Scenario 1 – A limited edition vinyl of Kelso’s favorite album just came out. However, Kelso knows that their paycheck is going to be smaller than usual. They want to know if it’s a wise idea to buy it right now.

Go ahead and treat yourself (Three of Cups and The Empress), just do so with clarity of mind (Ace of Swords). Accept that money is going to be extremely short in other places if you do this, and be prepared to cut back elsewhere as needed. It’s okay to treat yourself now and then as long as you approach these moments with practicality and don’t overindulge.

Scenario 2 – There’s been some changes in Miles’ life and he’s trying to figure out the best way to tell his dad about them.

Get together and take the time to check in on  your dad first.  Once you’ve had some time together and you know everything is okay, then is the time for some clear and open communication on what you need to tell him.  Don’t just jump in cold… he needs to be warmed up first.
