The beaded curtain
rustles as strands brush
like whispering
branches
at the edge
of the long field
and as
incense swirls
through the senses
memories
of autumn hikes
through
tall damp grasses
rise in the mind.
Golden bursts
of bright leaves
radiant
in the gray light
of cloudy
afternoon skies
welcome visitors
to wander
as they
whisper
to each other
about
warmer days
gone by.
A little nap
is all I wanted
but there’s no
peace
to be had
not even once
I’ve started
God forbid
I’m allowed
some sleep
or even a
little bit
of peace.
