It made me laugh
and I had to share
I wanted to get it
For my front door
this year.
But unfortunately
it points
the wrong way
the good candy
next door
is to the left
with Snickers
and Butterfingers
and Milky Way.
A little peek into my day
A Costco run
coming home to stay.
Lots of goodies
packed tubs and bags
my little cart
a champ to have.
Into the house
comes unpacking time.
Grab the rag
the bleach spray
and wipe it all down
then put it away.
A thread of strength
A tendril
of tenderness
A delicate frisson
of vulnerable bits
Take a moment
and lean in close
and dive into the
ethereal and earthy
curl
of a graceful frill.
Crows feet come
and wrinkles show
how odd to see
what no one knows
“you look under 20”
they say to me
Yet in the mirror
I know what I see.
Little hints of age
creeping in
Good thing getting old
isn’t a sin.
Tiny and delicate
oh so sweet
fructose lichen
watch your feet
a little growth
on a fallen
tree stump
bright red apothecia
catches the eye
but only for those
seeking the sight.
