Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_9078Engrossed Moments

Anther and filament
so delicately sweet
Petals
a whisper
light as a feather
and filled with color.
Sepal bits beneath
tight buds… and
and for a moment
you lose yourself
in a trillion flutters
from the smallest breeze.

Sometimes… you just need to find something to lose yourself in for a bit.
Today is one of those days.

IMG_9931The Last Stretch

Season’s end
yet still they strive
even as
the sunlight dies
Petals spread
to catch the rays
attracting bees
for a list minute snack
in hopes that
pollen will spread far
and spring will start
a brand new spark.

IMG_0331The Escape

Can’t we just
run away
and hide
in the tall grass,
making shapes
out of clouds
all day
and watching
the world
march on
while we play?

IMG_0202The Air Has Changed

Although
the heat remains
for just a bit longer
the flavor of the air
has made a definite
shift towards fall
with moisture
in the earth
and the musky odor
of decomposing leaves
hinted at
in each breath.

IMG_0172Multitasking

Unfortunately,
sometimes
there’s just
not enough
time in a day
to get
everything done
that you want to do
if you choose to
take each task
one thing at a time.

Miss Luna feels the same way sometimes, it would seem.

IMG_6505No More Heat

Here comes the sun
do dun do do…
Blech blah blah.
Wet and rainy
cloudy skies.
This is home
and perfectly right.
Summer sun
is not for me.
Give me rain and moss
and peat.

Another heatwave is headed in.  The last handful of days have been so nice, with lots of cloudy skies and rain, the earth has become spongy and soft again and the air is filled with the cool humidity that soothes my lungs.

At least this upcoming heatwave looks to be relatively short.
