The Cycle

Autumn
is filled with
damp and decay
as vivid shades
fade away
to mushy muck
and wet gunk
that sticks
to the bottom
of muddy shoes
Then spring
will come and
muck will dry
and crumble
to become soil
for something new.

as we play
the ultimate game

Autumn
slips to
winter cold
and
wet clings
to everything
but even now
beauty holds
all rapt
in its
embrace.

The transition from fall to winter is a slow one in this part of the world, filled with a nip in the air and cold rains, vibrant leaves and emerging green as evergreens overtake autumn shades.

Memory Lane

The beaded curtain
rustles as strands brush
like whispering
branches
at the edge
of the long field
and as
incense swirls
through the senses
memories
of autumn hikes
through
tall damp grasses
rise in the mind.

The fallen
lies
on uneven
ground

over his face
and the cold
of the ground

eases
