The Last Breath
The world sighs
as light blooms
bright and golden
from western skies
as the sun
gasps
its last goodbyes
before darkness
blankets the world
and all
slips into silence.
I had to pull over to take a picture of the sun about to set as I was on my way home.

Tendrils
of golden light
curl gentle
and tenacious
around wrists
to tangle fingers
as warmth soaks
beneath skin
even
through distance
to find sticky grip
upon my heart
and soul
A Good Frolic
Lets hold hands
and wander
where the air
licks cold and wet
and pine needles
crunch underfoot
Lets get lost
together
where clouds
dip down
to kiss the earth
and weave
between
tree trunks
and branches
A Small Reclaiming
The skygasps light
like a
drowning man
seeking air
as clouds
stretch over
the world
like a heavy blanket
and rain drizzles
to dampen all
that lies below
cleansing away
the pollution
we leave behind
Reaching Up
Layers
upon layers
of heavy clouds
create a sky
so low
it feels
as if it is
within reach
but then
layers shift
and within
your sight
a loftier goal
appears

along the bank
as slick ground
and soggy grass
cause softness
to squish
and shoes
to sink
as the troll
hiding
in the shadows
of the bridge
laughs in glee
at your struggles
