Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_6144Potential

A little seed
lies in
more moss than grass
it waits for rain
and an earthen grasp.
New life held
safe and sound
in pod’s embrace
til roots grow down.

Goddamned
irritating
whisper
in my ear.
Push it away
and it keeps
coming back
again
and again
and again.

Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_2731The Fall

Moving fast
panted breath
hauling ass
and then you trip.
Knees and hands
land in the dirt.
While pops of color
catch the eye
and create
a moment’s pause
to breathe.

IMG_3004Still Useful

Old and rusted
battered and bruised
scars scattered
over the surface
still here though
still strong
still useful
even if not sure
for how long.

Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_2314Higher

The urge to climb
is strong and fierce
it pulls and tugs
demands more
more energy
more footsteps
more straining muscles
and panting breaths.
The craving for altitude
digs in deep claws
and pushes the body
to its limits.

Don’t stop… you can breathe at the top.

IMG_2275Sunrise

early morning’s
shining light
crests the hills
turns dark
to bright
starting early
means darkness reigns
then shadows creep
and day begins

I love working on the farm during this time of year and through September.  It’s breathtaking to watch the sunlight begin to wash over the fields one increment at a time, warming the earth and rising a faint haze of mist into the air from the dew with each foot that the sunlight overtakes the shadow cast by the hillsides not all that far away.
