Vibrant colors
in a drab world
on rolling carts
waiting outside
automatic doors
to greet
and bring a smile
as they
catch the eye
as I walk by
and they call out
to me
“Take me home!”
Lets go for a walk
with chilled hands
tucked together
in deep pockets
fingers tangled
as arms brush
and boots crunch
on snow and ice
while breath plumes
to mingle in the air
and eskimo kisses
turn into
something
that will warm us
even more
Sleeping giants
lie in wait
concealed in layers
low clouds and fog
mist and steam
as each blends
into the other
as the frozen world
waits
for thawing warmth
to come
Alone I stand
and breathe in
crisp air
as others topple
I remain standing
tall and strong
as wind blows
and storms tear
through mountains
and valley below
Soon
the sun
will shine again
So long spent
encased in ice
the dark cold
a cling
against flesh
against soul
and yet
the thaw comes
in small increments
and through
frozen embrace
a small tendril
just a tip
finds fresh air
and breathes deep
Among skeletons
they stand
proud and strong
full and weighted
by wet fluff
impervious
to the chill
Fenced in
but lush
they are
sentinals
in a world gone
baren
and cold
