Clean Slates

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Shadowland TarotToday’s draw is the Tower card, which is traditionally a representation of sudden change, chaotic transformation, destruction, and the tearing down of something within one’s life or beliefs that leaves room for something new to take its place.

Sometimes? No matter how much you try to mitigate the damage, the “fall” is unavoidable.  That’s what I see here in the imagery for this card, wth a figure blasted off the tower of the building in the background trying to use an umbrella to slow their plummet to the ground.  An umbrella is not going to cut it, though.

That is because there are always going to be times when only a full and complete destruction will lead us to the new path we are meant to tread. Otherwise?  We cling to the shreds of the old instead of committing ourselves completely to the new.

I am absolutely guilty of this, and got smacked in the face with it earlier when I thought my phone had bit the dust. In the end, it was fixable and I get to cling to my old phone just a little longer…  but at the same time, this experience, and today’s card, make it clear it’s time to look into an upgrade whether I want to or not.

Question for October 10th
: What emotions do I struggle to express?

Golden Age of Horror Comics TarotThe “Fuck It, I Quit” EmotionsEight of Cups and Half Bat Boy – You have a hard time walking away from things, especially those that you’ve put a lot of effort in. You continue trying to “make it work” instead of just letting it go.

Contentment When Things Aren’t “Just Right” Nine of Cups and Bumble Beast – You can’t just say “it’s fine” when something doesn’t fit for you. Neither can you hide that it isnt a good fit.

Hope in Times of StruggleThe Star and Gunbeam Bread – You are far more likely to keep your head down and push onward when hardship hits than express hope and positivity.  It’s just part of who you are to try and work through it and try to ignore the problems rather than approach them from an angle of positivity.

Shadowland TarotQuestion for October 10th
: Trick – What is fooling you that needs to be seen more clearly?

Reading Summary:  Are you really resting (Four of Swords Rx) when you forsake pleasure and fun (Ten of Cups Rx) for leaning in with determination toward your goals and ambitions (Ace of Wands)?

Take Away: Time off is not time off unless you actually rest, recover, and have a little fun.

This week is supposed to be your time off, and these cards are stating that sitting at home throughout the entire week looking at all the stuff that needs to be done is not healthy for you at this time. Do the thing, step outside your comfort zone, and give yourself what you need to truly rest and recover before it’s too late and there’s no more time for these things until after the New Year.

Daily Self Kindness

I took the advice of the cards above and did the spontaneous thing.  Taking advantage of a free night at a hotel, I gave myself an entire day of forest and woods and beach and sea air.  I spent the entire day outside and getting in touch with nature.

Manifesting Abundance

Today’s meditation was was a part of me soaking in the tub… of which I did for damned near three hours apparently.  I didn’t mean to soak in the tub for three hours, mind you.  But it turns out that I only want to get out of the tub while the water is hot.

Once it cools down?  I’m happy to lie around in there forever until the temperature gets to shiver-inducing temperature. Even then?  When the temperature has cooled I feel much more inclined to add a little more warm water to keep the temp going than actually get out.  It makes getting motivated to actually get out of the tub surprisingly difficult.

Madam Lydia Wilhelmina's Tarot - The MagicianToday’s draw is the Magician, which is traditionally a representation of being capable and skilled, and having all the tools at one’s disposal to deal with what needs done or dealt with.   It’s about being resourceful and having the motivation and expertise at your fingertips to manifest into reality what you want (or want to happen).

What stands out to me the strongest today in the imagery of this card is the abundant bounty sitting on the table behind the figure.

With the Magician card being about manifestation, what I see here is someone that has found the skills and expertise necessary to manifest abundance into their life. This shows capability to care for oneself and others, to manage life and provide the resources needed.

Today’s card is a reminder that I am capable.  That I am skilled.  That I am more than able to care for myself and for others.  More than able to deal with keep my business afloat.  More than able to handle the things that need done, and to manifest the abundance needed for myself and those that depend on me.

: How am I asked to honor the Spirit World this Samhain?

Golden Age of Horror Comics Tarot

Reading Summary: Welcome home those that come to visit (Four of Wands) and spend time connecting with them (Two of Cups).  Allow the emotional connections to happen and take the support offered in their presence at this time (Queen of Cups).

Take Away:  Not all that come through from the spirit world do so to berate me.  That is solely my father’s schtick. The cards here are a reminder that the spirit world as a whole is not my enemy and I can connect with it and make bonds through the veil that have nothing to do with him or the influences that he has had upon me and my life.

Question
: A Problem / What Action to Take / What to Wait On

Dark Grimoire TarotA ProblemThe Empress – Neglect. Lately I have been neglecting myself.  Not eating as well as I should, not doing my meditations.  Sort of retreating into myself and feeling off kilter in a general malaise sort of way. This isn’t just the drop, but rather an over all lack of enthusiasm for life and what it has to offer as a whole.  It’s not healthy.

What Action To TakeAce of Swords atop Two of Swords – I need to find a better way to communicate how I’m feeling.  This isn’t my strong suit at all and will take a conscious effort, but finding the words is important.

What To Wait OnThe Tower – Don’t catastrophize things just yet.  It’s not the end of the world, just a bit of an uphill struggle of the moment.  I need to remember that this isn’t some huge issue.  It’s also not forever.

: How can I strengthen my relationship with my Guides?

Twisted Tarot Tales

Reading Summary: Reach for them to help me make good choices (The Lovers) when I am feeling combative (Five of Wands) or down on my luck (Five of Pentacles).

Take Away:  Sometimes, making the choices that are for my best interest, are not entirely an easy thing to do. Conflict and disillusionment can make impulses hard to resist, and there are times when hardships can pollute one’s view and make other perspectives difficult to see.  This is the time when reaching for my spirit guides can help in strengthening our relationship, as it creates a conscious bond of trust instead of an unconscious one followed through intuition.

Question: How can I keep my spiritualism focused?

Anne Stokes Gothic Tarot

Reading Summary:  Stick with it and work at it (Three of Pentacles) through the ups and downs of life (Wheel of Fortune).  Practice patience in your progress (Temperance), and kind understanding of yourself along the way (The Empress).

Take Away:  Tenacity.  The key to keeping my spiritualism focused is accepting that it’s going to have its ups and downs along the way and that you just need to stick with it regardless of that.  The cards also note that providing myself with patience and understanding is more than just for work and the business, and needs to be applied to this area of my life as well.

You Don’t Have To Do It Alone

IMG_6992Today’s meditation was  just over ten minutes long and was another guided meditation with interval timer.   The thing is tho?  I wasn’t really paying attention to the guided meditation part today.  I’ve been a bit flaky and “off” today, which means that I’ve not been able to really fully focus or concentrate today.  Which is fine, because a blank mind was very easy to fall into…. but listening to that guided meditation as she spoke about whatever it was she was speaking about?  Not so easy.   And even if I listened to it (which I’m almost positive I didn’t), I clearly didn’t retain it.

At the same time?  I liked the quote provided by the meditation today, so I included it in this post.  It speaks to the survivor in me, and to the chronic pain patient in me.

It speaks to me of acceptance so that you can continue on.  Being told that you will never be pain free again, that you will be in constant pain for the rest of your life? It’s a hard pill to swallow.  A really, really hard pill to swallow.  But, once you can accept it and choose to live on and enjoy life regardless, tho?  Then your life finds ways to stretch and accommodate for that pain, allowing for you to have love and joy and all those experiences alongside it…. instead of having to forsake them all because of it.

Tarot of Haunted House - TemperanceToday’s draw is the Temperance card, which is traditional representation of well… temperance.  Wikipedia says that Temperance is defined as “moderation or voluntary self-restraint... typically described in terms of what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing. This includes restraint from revenge by practicing non-violence and forgiveness, restraint from arrogance by practicing humility and modesty, restraint from excesses such as extravagant luxury or splurging by practicing prudence, and restraint from rage or craving by practicing calmness and self-control.

Although this is a large part of what the Temperance card is about, it is not the whole of it, as the Temperance card goes beyond the virtues of moderation and also reaches past them into the philosophical spiritual connection that practicing those virtues can create.  This means that the Temperance card is not just about the virtues of moderation, but also a connection to one’s spirituality, and thus a connection between the earth and divinity.

I don’t really see much in the way of the spiritual aspects in the imagery of today’s card, though.  What I see here is a statement about restraint and moderation being a choice.

The message here is about making that choice. Moderation is not a strong suit for me, and when I find myself at a point where I am no longer able to make that choice on my own?  It ends up being something I have to walk away from instead.  The encouragement here is to not walk away so quickly, but work harder at making moderation a standard in life…. perhaps with the help of others when needed.

Question
: Ever mind the rule of three, what ye send out {card 1}, comes back to thee {card 2}.

Dark Angels TarotReading Summary: Sharing your knowledge and skills (The Magician) carelessly with those unwilling to walk the path and do the work (Eight of Swords)… and you are charging directly into regret and backlash for your reckless behavior (Knight of Cups Rx).

Ever mind the rule of three, what ye send out {reckless sharing of knowledge and tools to those not ready for such things}, comes back to thee {backlash for your reckless behavior}.

Take Away:  And this is why I do not provide hexes, spells, curses, etc. to novice witches… or to any witches for that matter. If they don’t have the knowledge under their belt to make their own spells, then they’re not far enough down the path yet to do the spell they are asking about.

I actually just ran into the situation last night on a Discord server, and run into it pretty regularly with new witches that have not figured out that this practice is something to be respected and not a toy.  I’m not referring to basic candle spells or things like that.  I’m referring to advanced spellwork (which hexes and curses definitely fall into).

I’m happy to provide guidance on ingredients that might benefit certain purposes and tools that might help someone get where they want to go within their spellcraft, but I’m not giving anybody any spells or curses or hexes. In my personal opinion and experience, people need time and practice to grow and be able to build their own experience and spells, and adapt them to be personal to them… instead of just cut copy and paste what someone else gives them without understanding any of what they’re doing or what the elements they’re using mean.

Obviously, as you can see, this is a pet peeve of mine.

: What negativity in my ancestral history is it time to let go of in the present?

Golden Age of Horror Comics TarotReading Summary: Sometimes when you trust in others to do the work for you (Three of Cups) instead of doing it yourself (The Magician) you can end up experiencing malicious backlash (Witch in the Background of the Three of Cups) and hardship as a result (Five of Pentacles).

Take Away: Although I don’t agree with a lot of the ways that I was raised, one thing that I do agree with is that I was raised to be independent, strong, and hard-working. I was taught that there are no good shortcuts, therefore there’s no point in looking for them because they only end up causing problems.

This is something that my ancestors have learned, and through them I was taught to be different and do different… learning from their mistakes.

Cute and Creepy Tarot

Reading Summary: I am open to my intuition (The High Priestess) and willing to follow where it leads (Knight of Cups), and in doing so, embrace the results as they pour in along the way (Nine of Cups).

Take Away:  My personality aligns with that of my spirit guides because I am open to allowing direction from my subconscious and my intuition, and they’re taking that opportunity to lead me forward and help me find positive outcomes in my life.   Without my willingness to blindly follow these qualities in myself… qualities they manipulate to nudge me along in my trajectory…. and without their willingness to do the nudging?  It wouldn’t all come together so seamlessly or winningly.

Question: What does magick mean to me?

Murder of Crows Tarot

Six of Wands – An interest to excel at.

The thing is?  I enjoy the spellcraft and magic(k) part of my path, quite a lot.  I enjoy the studying and the learning, the researching and the experimentation.  I enjoy expanding my horizons and finding my strengths and affinities.  I also enjoy being knowledgeable in these areas and able to help others (and yes, at times, even looked up to by others) with knowledge and experience I can share.

The Star – A way to connect spiritually with the world around me and its energies.

My faith is based upon the energies that surround us.  Energies of the elements, energies of creation, evolution, and balance.  These energies are how I see divinity, how I grasp how the world works, and are the foundation of my path.  Spellcraft and magic(k) are at their very core taking control and direction of energy through intent and using tools assist in that purpose.  In this way, spellcraft and magic(k) then becomes an extension of my faith, and a connection to divinity.

The Chariot – And a means to an end.

None of the above changes the fact that spellcraft and magic(k) is a tool.  It is something that is used to accomplish a goal.  You put your intention into action to make something happen using energy as the force for moving things along.

Take Away:  In the end, spellcraft and magic(k) are many things to me, although these three are definitely at the top of the list.  It’s a part of my faith, a means to an end, a connection to divinity, and a passionate pursuit. It is a sense of security and a lifelong past-time, a hereditary gift passed down from my mother and my ancestors… and much more.

It’s Good Not To Be King

IMG_6920Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the guided meditations with interval timers for my piriformis stretches.

The topic of today’s meditation was about taking time to let in the beauty and the  majesty of the world.  To take it in and appreciate it, and allow it to calm you.   It was about how sometimes? Even when we feel like we need to act, and act right now, that it’s better to wait and watch, and allow things to unfold at their own pace.

This can be really hard, yeah?  But the key in today’s guided meditation was that if we can find beautiful and peaceful things to focus on, it can help us in allowing that space instead of jumping into the fray.

Madam Lydia Wilhelmina's Tarot - King of WandsToday’s draw is is the King of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of a projective alpha energy in the area of one’s inspiration, passion projects, drive, and that inner spark of curiosity and invention. This often translates into themes that have to do with authority figures or leadership energy that leads the charge, stirring up those beneath them to  lead them into the fray of whatever passionate interest is the focus of the time.

What stands out to me in the imagery of this card today is the pumpkin that is impaled upon the wand that the skeleton king holds.   The pumpkin as the drawing on a sugar skull on it, and reminds me of a head on a pike.

What I see in this imagery is that sometimes?  Sacrifices have to be made for progress to happen for the greater good.  Sometimes?  Things or people get left behind.  Not because it’s fair or even right… it’s neither.  But when you’re the king?  You have to think of the greater good.  Sometimes that means that things aren’t fair for everyone, and sometimes it means that things that feel wrong happen just to make sure the greater good thrives.

Today’s card is a reminder of why I despise being leader and try to avoid that when I’m able. It’s a reminder of how happy I am not to be those things, and how much comfort and relief I get from that fact.

Question
: How can my inner magick support my journey?

Gothic Horror Tarot

Reading Summary: You are the ruler of your own domain (King of Pentacles) and are skilled at the running of it (Eight of Pentacles) because your inner compass keeps things balanced (Justice).

Take Away:  I recently came to realize just how unique each home and household is.  How in the ecosystem of a home and those that live within it, certain knowledge that is unique to that ecosystem is spread between it’s members.  Things like preferences in foods and brands, differences in bathroom times and daily ablution periods, how quickly things run out and how they deal with these things.

How smoothly these things are run and how well this information is shared is dependent upon those involved and whoever the “head” of that ecosystem is that keeps things running smoothly.  In my home, that person is me.  My need for organization and desire for a sense of security is a part of the magic of who I am, and applying this to my home and those within it helps us all move more comfortably upon our journey, and feel more safe with each step that is taken.

Question
: Forgive / Accept / Honor

Luis Royo's Labyrinth TarotForgiveNine of Pentacles – Forgive myself for wallowing in a sense of security.  It’s been really nice to feel like everything’s taking care of itself for a while and like it’s not on my shoulders to push myself hard as I can. It’s hard to feel like it’s okay to feel that way, though. I have a lot of guilt around letting myself wallow in it for a bit, especially as I try to get myself back in gear now to prepare for the busy season ahead.

AcceptKnight of Wands – Accept that it’s now time to get your ass up and get a move on.  Unfortunately, that more relaxed time I’ve been enjoying has come to an end.  It’s a bummer, because I’ve just started to enjoy it, but now it’s time to accept that I need to plunge into my work.  My creative business will not run itself, and requires a certain amount of preparation to function properly and run well during the holiday rush.

HonorTen of Cups atop Jack of Wands – I need to honor what I have learned through how I’ve invested my time over the spring and summer. I’ve put a lot of time and focus on exploring my emotional intelligence and growing my understanding of my own emotions over the spring and summer.  I’ve found that I need a bit of rest to find emotional fulfillment, and just how important emotional fulfillment really is.  These things that I have learned are very important lessons that I want to honor by carrying forward into the future with me.

Luis Royo's Labyrinth Tarot - Five of SwordsWhat does it mean to honor what I need in order to feel emotionally fulfilled?

The Five of Swords indicates that you need to appreciate how far you’ve come, how much you’ve done, and protect these things.

This protection is not about building walls or anything so stagnant.  It’s important to remember that  emotions do not thrive when closed up and walled off.  So using that type of method that you have often used in the past is not going to work this time around.

Instead, you need to look at a more active style of defense and protection by carrying these things that you have learned with you as you move forward and holding them close as you without suffocating them.

Golden Age of Horror Comics Tarot

Reading Summary: Tap in to what you know and are skilled at (Eight of Pentacles), combined with your childhood experiences (Six of Cups). Examine how you can see this connection differently (The Hanged Man).

Take Away:  The message here is about looking a gift horse in the mouth.  The thing is?  Many of my greatest skills come from those in my past.  The experiences and the skills passed down to me that I have utilized to get myself where I am?  These are also from the same individuals in my past that I have spent a good deal of time resenting and avoiding. My guides are, in some cases, a piece of my past.  They were there then, either in living form or in the ethereal plane… they’re here now too.  They have always wanted what is best for me… so maybe it’s time to let go of some of those resentments and discomforts.
