The Bath
A moment’s peace
stretched long
and sweet
in silence
with eyes closed
and the faint
drip drip of faucet
causing ripples
on the water
the only sound
to brush ears
and a deep breath
is pulled to lungs
then let out
nice and slow
as muscles ease
and tension releases
for just a moment
one moment
peace
Letting Go
Hours ebb
into minutes
and then seconds
as light fades
slowly
and summer sun
sinks low
and the restlessness
stirring deep
in my bones
takes a breath
and releases
like a sigh
In a Mood
I miss you when it’s quiet
I miss you when it’s loud
I miss you with
the first breath pulled
through my mouth
and with the exhale
that slides past lips
when eyes close
in the evening
and with every moment
that ticks by
in the measure of a day
I miss you
I need you always.
The Slow Crawl
Summer heat comes
and I’m not ready
to deal
with the dripping
of sweat
and cling
of cotton cloth
to skin gone wet
with the exertion
of simply
breathing in
stale air
as windows stay closed
and the AC hums
The Unfurling
Knots loosen
as pressure eases
once outbursts
of vivid emotion
spill forth
into the light
and are
washed clean
by the kiss
of your love
as you finally see
what has
been hidden
and curled tight
into a knotted bud
Fragmentation
Feelings of failure
bite deep into flesh
and I ache
for the box
with sharp things
inside
long ago sent away
into safekeeping
as the realization
comes
that the failing grade
in matters of the heart
is an F
not E for Effort
but F… for Failure
