Gideon’s Challenge – Endless

Invading Clouds

Endless

The world
refuses to wake
remaining dark
and gray
with slumber
and slow hours
as clouds
don’t lift
or burn away
but merely hang
heavy
in the air
flirting
with treetops
and the ground
beneath

Gideon’s Challenge – Spring Weeds

First Weeds of Spring

Spring Weeds

Like snowdrops
and crocus
then daffodils
and tulips
the first weeds
of spring
begin to crop up
and be seen
promising
a summer
filled with
dandelion tufts
and hay fever

Gideon’s Challenge – No Snow

Distant Mountains

No Snow

I want to go
where the snow is
and breathe in
the sharp sting
of crisp air
while footsteps
crunch
and little bits
of fluff
fall to join
the glacier
covered ground
I stand upon

Gideon’s Challenge – Quiet Moments

Soft Sunset over Water

Quiet Moments

Dusk slips in
quiet and still
turning skies
into
blushing hues
as light
begins to fade
and we
don’t realize
how late
it’s become
until shadows
blend
into darkness

Gideon’s Challenge – Poe

Turkey Tail Fungi (Trametes versicolor)

Poe

The concept
of a dream
within a dream
was once foreign
but over time
reality becomes
ephemeral
and the world
becomes fuzzy
instead of
firm
and clarity
becomes
a concept
instead of
an experience

Gideon’s Challenge – Mr Swirl

Mr Swirl Van

Mr Swirl

“How can we
make your day
better?”
it asks
as I pull up
to park
a lime colored
swirl
catches
the eye
drawing it in
to the cartoon
plumber
and friendly
title
and all I
can think is
“how cute…
I wish we had
a Mr Swirl
near me”
