The Proposition
An evening out
to wine and dine
(no wine
for me
of course)
with offers made
and promises given
as a proposal
to change my life
is set down
upon the table
and refused
because
it’s just
not for me

Nightlights
A beacon
in the night
still glows
in the dawn
even as
color splashes
like spilled paint
over the horizon
and turns
the world
momentarily
pink

Last Light
Sun at rest
and all
that’s left
is the twilight
of dusk
in hues of blue
that touch
at the soul
and speak of
the cold
as they invite
thoughts
of warm fires
in stone hearths

Fearful
I duck my head
moving past
with tension
in every cell
but hidden
from showing
in the muscles
as gazes
turn my way
speculatively
but today
I’m allowed
to pass by

The Supervisor
From the bed
hidden
among covers
or the spot
by the door
between one room
and the next
or the back
of the couch
or the spot
by the window
her eyes
are always
on me

Every Little Thing
I think of you
in the strangest
of places
and most
unexpected moments
throughout
each day
over and again
as little things
bring you
again and again
to my mind
and make
a smile
slip over
my lips
