Where Are You Going?

Today’s meditation was skipped.

Gay Tarot - Three of WandsToday’s draw is the Three of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of of the first steps that come after planning turns to action. It is about looking ahead, direction, and progress.

In this card’s imagery, the “ghosts” in the image are a glimpse of the future as a father sends his child off to school for the first time, and we see a forward echo of the scene replaying again and again as she grows up.  Each send off a first step towards a new adventure.

The message in this card tells us that each small step is a step forward on a path that leads into the future.  The choices we make matter as they determine the direction that we go in.

Topic for February 19th
: Do Spread 3
Instructions: Today’s spread is a bit different than our normal in that we are not drawing random cards, but rather, we are picking out the cards we think fit best. For each position, pick the card you feel fits the question best for you, and then explain why.

The Pooh Tarot Mini Edition - Queen of Coins, The Hanged Man, Two of Coins, Five of Cups, Six of SwordsWhich one card do you feel sums you up best?

Queen of Coins – The older I get, the more I feel like I slip further and further towards the Queen of Coins. Yes, I strive always to be the Hanged Man, constantly looking for new and different perspectives. But, I feel that more and more I begin to embody the Queen of Coins as I age, seeking to support those that I care about in the ways I’m able to best do so.

Which one card do you feel represents your strengths?

The Hanged Man – Mentioned above, I strive for perspectives beyond my own.  My strength is in that effort and my desire to be open minded and seek more than my own world view.  I seek to see and understand the world through the eyes of others every day.

Which one card do you feel represents your limitations?

Two of Coins – I try and try to balance pessimism with hope,  fun and responsibility, work and rest. Balance is not an easy thing for me when there is so much to do and I am constantly trying to find that balance and adjust… and constantly feel that I am failing at this.  Because there is no steady and consistently stable balance and continuous adjustments need to be made, it never feels like I quite manage to find the balance I need.

What kind of issues do you feel that you need to work on?

Five of Cups – Pessimism and negativity are my natural inclination. This is an issue that I am working at, but it’s a long road that takes a lot of conscious effort to counteract.  The pessimism has a greater influence on my mental health than I’d realized through the first thirty years of my life.  Now that I know this, I work diligently to balance that negativity with hope and optimism, but…. sometimes I lose track and backslide.

What message do you want to share with the world?

Six of Swords – You do not have to stay in a situation that is not healthy for you.  There are always choices to be made… options to consider.  Yes, some of them require actually imploding your life and starting anew, but usually? It’s worth it in the end when your goal is reaching for something more right, healthy, and fitting for you.

Questions for February 19th and 20th

Gay Tarot - Ace of Swords, The Emperor, Four of Wands, Six of SwordsWhat should I stop avoiding?

Ace of Swords – Instead of keeping everything to yourself, make sure that you are communicating clearly with others. Open and honest communication is key to healthy relationships with those in your life.

Why?

The Emperor – In your life you carry a lot of responsibility for others, but you can’t handle that responsibility well if you don’t communicate clearly with those around you to express what is needed from others and “direct traffic” as needed.

How can I live and love more freely?

Six of Swords Rex atop Four of Wands – Don’t let your worries about what other people think keep you from enjoying what you have and celebrating what you’ve built.

Weekly Creativity Prompt – The Sun

Prompt: “Pull the Sun card from your deck(s). Compare the imagery between the card provided below and the card(s) from your own deck(s). How would you read them differently and why?

Modern Love Tarot - The SunModern Love Tarot – Joyous celebration and pride combine in this card as a mother holds her child up to the sun. This card is a display of celebrating life, and taking moments as they come while treasuring the laughter and love we have for each other.  It’s youth and energy, brightness and warmth, and it encourages one to cherish these feelings and be “in the moment” with them.

The Sun in the Gay Tarot, Spiritual Tarot, Meraki Tarot 2nd Edition

Gay Tarot – Sometimes working together toward a mutual goal goes beyond projects you share with others and bleeds into a life as a whole.  The two figures in this image have been together a long time. They work together, they play together… and over time it’s become clear that everything is better together. Where can your life be improved by working with others towards successes that you can share? And how much sweeter will those successes be if shared with each other?

Spiritual Tarot – A radiant figure stands in the light, filled with pride and standing tall. That radiance has become a part of him, strong and wild as the world bursts into abundance around him. This figure reminds me of the Wiccan God, who is reborn each spring and grows to maturity in summer’s warmth each year. It asks you to seek out what needs a rebirth in your own life, and where abundance has flourished and grown both within and around you.

Meraki Tarot 2nd Edition – Wishes scatter into the wind, given up to the sun’s radiance like seeds seeking fertile soil. Not every wish we have can come true, but this card indicates that some of them can.  They just need a little nurturing and they can find that fertile soil needed in which to grow and flourish.

Movement Needed

IMG_2827Today’s meditation was just over ten minutes long and focused on taking time to enjoy the little things that make you feel good, happy, and contented in life.

I think that we all sometimes take these things for granted, and I know that I have definitely been guilty of this lately.   Today’s meditation was a good reminder that when times are hectic and stressful, it’s important to take a step back and just let yourself enjoy the little things a bit.

I guess it could be called “smelling the roses”, which is my mother’s favorite phrase for this sort of thing.   Although, I don’t think that encompasses those things that truly give you comfort.

zx5iwpctToday’s draw is the Two of Stone (Pentacles) which is usually seen as a representation of finding balance in one’s responsibilities and daily life among other meanings.

When I look at the imagery for today’s card, though, I’m not so much feeling that sense of balance I usually feel when the Two of Pentacles appears.  Instead, this card speaks to me of being in the in-between space.   Like being in that moment of transition between one moment and the next, one choice and another.   Hanging in the balance between the two, rather than juggling.

The appearance of this card reminds me that you can’t hang in limbo forever.  Sooner or later, you have to move.

Question
: How can I improve my relationship with rest?

Britt's Third Eye Tarot

Reading Summary: I love the Emperor card in this deck.  Just sayin’.

To improve my relationship with rest I need to allow myself (Emperor) to set aside what doesn’t work (Six of Swords) and disappointments (Five of Cups) and make the choice to move forward from them into something better (The Lovers).

Take Away:  One of the ways in which my drive gets in the way of my rest is by beating myself up for my failures and those things that just don’t work out or that I can’t finish for whatever reason.  When I try to rest, this habit of berating whispers sneak in to tell me that it’s because of those restful moments that I failed in the first place.  It’s bullshit… but that’s what happens.  The cards indicate if I want a better relationship with rest, I need to truly set those things aside and make the choice to look forward with hope and ambition rather than backwards with disappointment and degradation.

Question
: What is the difference between living and being alive?

Gay Tarot

Reading Summary: Instead of allowing yourself to be overwhelmed (Seven of Cups) accept that each of us evolves (The World) to find our own path that is right for us (The Fool).

Take Away:  The difference between living and being alive is choice.  It’s tailoring your life to fit you personally, and following that personal path rather than allowing others to force things upon you that aren’t a good fit.

Question
: Theme for Next Month / Lesson to be learned

The Binding of Isaac TarotTheme for Next Month: The Page of Pennies (Cups) indicates that the theme for next month will be one of discovery and finding a path forward into reconnecting with and feeding my creativity.

Lesson To Be Learned:  Sometimes you have to let go of something in order to grab on to something even better. You may mourn what has to be let go of, but all is not lost in these moments… instead, it’s a time to fostering hope.

Don’t Shut Down

Today’s meditation was just over ten minutes long and focused upon projecting a sense of gratitude, and how having a sense of gratitude in your live helps you to see the value not just in yourself, but in others as well.

It has to do with allowing yourself to notice how many good things and good people are in your life, and thus how deserving you are of good things on the whole.

The Fool - Majestic Earth TarotToday’s draw is The Fool card, which is a representation of unrestrained possibility, spontaneity, and innocence.  It speaks of beginnings and starting anew.

The message in today’s card is one of opening up and speaking up.   The drop is coming and it’s reminding me that in that soft and vulnerable place, it’s not okay to close off, but a time for setting myself open and free in order to allow those wounded and aching feelings inside to be soothed and healed.

Question
: How can I improve my relationship with money?

Love Is In The Earth Tarot

Reading Summary: Take care that I’m not spending my emotions (Princes of Crystal Cups) because focusing on optimism (The Star) is a better path to getting what I want out of life (Four of Crystal Wands)

Take Away:  By “spending emotions” I mean as in how some people “eat their emotions”.  Buying things to feel better, yeah?   The cards say that for a better relationship with money, a better path than buying something to “feel good” it would be a better idea to find ways to lift my spirits through optimism and a better outlook, which will free up that money to assist me in creating the stability and security that I desire most of all.

Question
: A positive message to carry with me throughout my day.

Majestic Earth Tarot and Gay Tarot

Reading Summary:  As this is the topic of my COTD, I added the COTD at the center and used this question (and the cards) to then build upon it.   Do this (Temperance), and not this (The Hermit).

Take Away:  Temperance and the Hermit are reinforcements of what I said above.  The drop can make me irrational, thus the arrival of temperance to remind me to stay calm.  The drop can also make me retreat into myself, and the Hermit is a warning about that, and an encouragement to keep myself from going there.

Question
: What’s a distraction? / Where do I need to focus?

Lion's Gateway TarotWhat’s a distraction? :  Past resentments and getting mentally wrapped up in the chaos of inner conflict is a distraction that I’m dealing with at the moment.   Some of this is the approach of the drop.  Some of it is what happened with my visit at mom’s recently.  And some of it is that negative “down on myself” bullshit concerning taking things slow.  All of it is distraction that isn’t doing anything for me.

Where do I need to focus? :  I just made my yearly appointment with my financial advisor at the bank.  This card is about productivity and about getting things done.  I need to train my focus on my goals as I go into this week, and make sure that my actions follow through on my intentions and desires.

You’ve Got This

Today’s meditation was just over twelve minutes long, and was not a guided meditation.  Instead, I used the time as an opportunity to center and calm from the burst of anxiety I woke up with first thing this morning.

The meditation involved some breath counting exercises, and a body scan that went from head to toes and then slowly back up again.  It was relaxing, and actually did help a bit in getting that tight anxiety knot in my gut to ease up some.

Prisma Visions TarotToday’s draw is The Magician card of the Major Arcana.  This card is an indication of being resourceful and having all the “tools” you need to manifest what you want to come into being.

The appearance of The Magician in today’s draw is as a cheerleader.  The Magician has appeared to essentially tell me “You’ve got this”.

After my exploits at mother’s club yesterday, I woke up today feeling a bit awkward and out of sorts.  Sort of like a hammer might be about to drop at any moment. The Magician’s appearance is a reminder that IF a hammer drops (or even if it doesn’t and it’s just me having a bit of a tweak at what I did in humiliating my mother) that I have everything I need to deal with any issues that arise as a result.

Question
: What is my relationship with my body?

The Binding of Isaac Tarot

Reading Summary: I really want to be good to myself (Queen of Pennies) and have lots of ideas on how to do so (Page of hearts), but when it comes to the doing part of the equation, I’m just not following through with the skill and solid dedication that is needed (King of Keys).

Take Away:  Essentially, the cards are saying I’m “all talk and no action” when it comes to the self care of my body.  And they aren’t wrong.  A lot of my self care focus rests not on my body (other than the need for rest), but on my emotional and mental well-being instead.

Question
: What skill in my tarot practice needs improvement?

Gay Tarot

Reading Summary:  Providing a sense of stability and uplifting messages (Four of Wands) in times of grief and loss (Three of Wands and Five of Coins).  There is also a modicum of conflict in these types of readings where I am concerned (Five of Wands).

Take Away:  Even before I was mute, I didn’t do too great with grief readings.  My delivery is a bit too blunt at a time when most people need a gentler approach. The conflict in these cards has to do with me avoiding mediumship in readings. If the reading from last fall is any indication, there’s clearly a latent ability here that I have been actively avoiding.

Question
: Morning message / Nighttime reflection

PrismaVisions TarotInterpretation:  It’s not surprising at all that I would receive the same card for this reading as I got for my morning COTD.  The Magician’s message is that “You’ve got this” and the reiteration of the message means that there is more.  The second appearance references not just my trepidation concerning yesterday’s escapades, but also today’s game of “catch up” as I try to get orders ready to go out tomorrow after having spent some time out of town.   The nighttime reflection message has to deal with

The appearance of the Devil card as the nighttime reflection has to do with the amount of distraction that I allowed into my day.  I couldn’t really afford any distractions at all, but I did.  As a result, I ended up more behind than I’d like and needing to carry some of my work for tomorrow’s shipments over into the morning, which will in turn set me behind in my trip to the post office, and cause me to be later in getting home from that trip.  Repercussions and consequences from the bit of distraction I allowed myself earlier in the day.
