Gideon’s Challenge

IMG_8324I Miss

The pitter patter
of water drops
and smell of moisture
in the air
as the world is
washed clean
and refreshed
anew
as each bit of green
gets a small
and cooling sip.

I miss the rain.  The sound of it, the smell of it, the feel of it, the taste of it.  I miss it all.  I love it all, and with summer upon us and in the clutches of a heat wave?  I miss the rain so very much.

IMG_6146Whimsy

Come in close
among mossy fronds
and fiddleheads
to touch noses
with his cheery face.
Mushroom tops
wobble and dance
as the little bell inside
sings.
Sniff out the thimble
of sweet sweet honey
go ahead and take a sip.

My garden and my home are both open to the Fae.  I welcome them in, I leave them offerings, and I have baubles traps for entertainment.  They are a part of the wards and protections of my home… not because I’ve asked them to, but because this is a safe place for them and they like it here. Bits of whimsy and fun touches are scattered throughout my home and garden in welcome to them… this little gnome and the tinkling bell mushrooms are simply one of many of those small touches.

IMG_5843My Love

Spending time
with you
is the softness
of forest moss,
the warm embrace
of humid air.
A familiar comfort
that soothes
the soul.

You are my forest… away from the forest.

IMG_6324The Wrinkle

Like a crease
on the soul
a surface
that seems smooth
until you look close
and really
pay attention.
My soul clenches,
tightening
in its vulnerability…
Back up.

Subdrop sucks. Just sayin’.  Thank you so much for being there with me and helping me through it.  I know I’m not easy to be around in close quarters when feeling raw and vulnerable.  I can pretend I’m fine for most… but when you get too close the view changes drastically.   You manage to always see me at my worst and love me despite the wrinkles in my soul in these moments.

Weekly Creativity Prompt – A Dream

Pull (at least) three cards use them as the foundation to write about one of your dreams (either literal or aspirational).

IMG_5515In the dream I awake in the ditch beside an abandoned street (High Priestess). It’s night time and chilly but not cold.  There is a slope on one side of me and the street on the other and as I rise I find friends arguing with each other a short distance away (Justice beneath Strength).

They are arguing about going to a haunted house, and as they start to climb the hill, I can see the house in the distance at the top.  In order to get there, we have to take a zigzagging route with some wooden ramps and bridges made of wood that cross over deep cracks in the ground. (The Tower).

When we reach the house, there is a party going on inside, but each time you go through a doorway, you end up in an entirely different part of the house.  I go through the doorway from the kitchen to the living room, and end up in the attic. (Wheel of Fortune)

I get creeped out by the behavior of the party goers, which seems to be becoming more and more malicious the longer we stay.  None of my friends want to leave, so I decide to take off on my own. (The Chariot)

Getting down the hill and through all the different ramps and bridges, over the rocks and boulders, all seems much more difficult as I try to get back to the road than on my way uphill.  All the way down, I feel the need to go faster and faster, as if something evil is breathing at the back of my neck, ready to devour me if I slow down or turn around (The Moon).

And then I wake up.

I am the one
concealed in the green
peering out
to watch
from dappled shadows
and swaying fronds.
I am the one
that sees you.
That secret wild you
civilization
will not accept…
but I do.
