Gideon’s Challenge

Looking BackLooking Back

In autumn
when the corn’s
been harvested
the fields
turn green
while giant clouds
meander
like massive
floating continents
across the sky above
and cast shapes
in light and shadow
upon the distant hills

Quartz CrystalUnearthed

Gifts
from the earth
don’t just grow
from fertile soils
but form
in dark places
to create
unique universes
of minerals
caught transfixed
while singing
the earth’s song
for those that listen
for the melody

Mushroom in MossLeaning In

Your light
falls upon me
like warmth
in winter time
and rain
in the spring
and the kiss
of dappled
summer sun
through leaves
and all I can do
is lean in
and bask
under your glow

Tasmanian Devil Train ArtTrain Spotting

Taz riding the
Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Rail
was just too good
and so much fun
he was larger
than life
hanging out there
with his tongue
hanging out
and a wicked smile
as he rides
down the rails
mile by mile.

Feathery FrostBrief Then Gone

A little snow
is better than none
with frozen temps
and feathery frost
and tiny snowflakes
mean and sharp
they sting the skin
as they land
and in the night
it’ll freeze hard
the sidewalks slick
for half a day
until the rain comes
and melts it away

SandyNot Superfluous

I don’t like it
when you act
as if you should be
unwanted
and shy away
instead of
standing strong
in the knowledge
that I am yours
and you are mine
and not just
always wanted
but needed
at my side.
