Gideon’s Challenge – More Rain

More Rain

too dry
summers
thin out
the evergreens
over time
until winters
begin to look
brown and blue
instead of
green and gray
and no one
wants more rain
it seems
yet that’s
what’s needed
most

Gideon’s Challenge – All for You

All for You

Touch me
gently
nice and slow
until I burn
white hot
beneath
your hands
and the glide
of lips
upon
warm skin
claim me yours
again

Gideon’s Challenge – A Moment

A Moment

pause
for a moment
to listen
to the quiet
and just
be
without
interruption
or thoughts
intruding
a moment
to breathe
nothing less
and
nothing more

Gideon’s Challenge – Simmer Pot

Winter Simmer Pot

Simmer Pot

Nosebleeds
and sore sinuses
bring
stainless steel
out of hiding
with water
to the brim
and heat beneath
a dance floor
is gifted to
orange peels
and apple cores
and a cinnamon stick
or two
that twirl and spin
together
in a dance
that soothes
the senses

Gideon’s Challenge – Getting Lost

Sunset Rays

Getting Lost

Let’s slip away
off the dock
and into the skiff
tied and waiting
slip the knot
as tide shifts
and let ourselves
be carried
away
lost in each other
to become
a part of
the evening’s
golden glow

Gideon’s Challenge – Helleborus

Hellbore Flowers in February

Helleborus

Color returns
with little
primrose flowers
and great big
hellebore blooms
that turn away
from the sky
but reach upward
to the clouds
as leaves
unfurl
and petals fill
with the
first blush
of Spring
