Gideon’s Challenge – Rosehip Season

Red RosesRosehip Season

It always
surprises me
how many
don’t realize
that rosehips
come from roses
as petals
fall away
and the fruit
left behind
swells large
to be harvested
for tea

Gideon’s Challenge – Harvesting Time

Layers of CloudsHarvesting Time

Harvest come
and harvests go
and the clouds
roll in
to promise us
rain
as the reaping
of fields
continues
acre by acre
until soon
all will be barren
except the sky

Gideon’s Challenge – Consequences

Field WeedsConsequences

When in doubt
don’t touch
the plants
that you
don’t recognize
or you may
suffer the
unexpected
consequences
of trusting
nature
not to harm you

Gideon’s Challenge – The Crossroads

Railroad Tracks and CloudsThe Crossroads

Rails wander
to the east
promising
adventure
that the
clouds
sweeping north
counter
with a promise
of magic
and at
the crossroads
I stand
in indecision

Gideon’s Challenge – So Much Fun

Halloween DecorationsSo Much Fun

Each decoration
added
one at a time
to shift from
summer
to autumn fun
and let
the world see
that Halloween
isn’t scary
at all
but instead
is a time for play

Gideon’s Challenge – Day’s End

Lazy SunsetDay’s End

I am so ready
for today
to be over
and life
to settle into
evening quiet
as the stress
of today
is left behind
except…
it doesn’t seem
to want
to stay back there
