Fostering New Ideas

Today’s meditation was not particularly successful, primarily because I had the helper coming and so I was trying to fit it in before she arrived.   I did… but the effort caused me to be distracted.   I’m going to try again before bed, I think.   Nothing wrong with two sessions in a day if needed.

Today’s draw is the Three of Zephyrs (Three of Swords), which has a variety of meanings depending on which system you use.  In reading with numerology, the the meaning of the Three of Air has to do with small gains and growth, groups and cooperation, communication, and the potential for “third wheel syndrome” in the area of the mind, logic, instinct, and intellect.

In the RWS system, this card is a representation of heartache and difficult times, sorrow and grief.  I’ve never really understood -why- the Three of Swords would be an emotion card in RWS, though.  It just always seemed odd to me.   It can also represent negative self talk and forgiveness, though, which I do see as of the mind.   Still…. heartache?  Grief?   As I see the Sword cards as Air, it seems like those themes would be better suited to the cups.  Just my opinion.

SO…. my take on today’s card isn’t about either traditional definition, but is about the imagery of the card itself.  What I see when I look at this card is a community working together to protect what they hold dear.  They protect the children.  They protect that new start, that new spark of life, the idea of something new and different that needs fostering and care.   The birds protect the vulnerable while still allowing for that sense of community.

This message correlates with some of what my Self Care Saturday spread I’d posted earlier today is about this weekend.  It’s about the budding of new ideas, and the protection of them.   As you mentioned in your comments, the impression I got was that in sharing these new ideas before they are fully implemented, I can run the risk of them being stolen, dashed, or killed off. (And, there‘s the heartbreak.)

That is to say, sometimes you need to give new ideas time to reside within and be sheltered, and allow them time to grow, before you share them with the world.

Let Go

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and focused on a recurring theme in these guided meditations, which is the ‘pause’ or ‘the gap’.

Essentially, it encouraged taking a moment in your day from time to time to “mind the gap”, which is to say to find that moment of stillness and quiet between bouts of chaos and cacophony.  These small gaps are moments of peace that can be used as a balm on one’s nerves and soothe the soul.

I like this recurring theme in my guided meditations, because they work as a reminder to something that I don’t always remember to do on my own.

Today’s draw is the Three of Swords (the Dove), and I will speak to the traditional meanings of this card after I provide my intuitive take.    When I saw the imagery on this card, the immediate response was “Let Go”.

The card’s appearance has to do with my hesitations in stepping forward with the new project that I’ve been working on.  I’ve had everything ready to begin for some time, but I’ve been hesitating to take that last step forward and begin.

Today’s card is telling me to let go of my doubts and fears and hesitancy, and step forward into  what I have been working toward.  To that end, I have done just that with a portion of my morning, and officially put the wheels into motion.

Traditionally, the Three of Swords is a representation of negative self talk, lack of optimism, sorrow or grief, inner pains, and (of course) heartbreak. Numerologically speaking, the Three of Swords indicates growing pains and small gains, communication among the group, and the “third wheel” mentality within the area of thoughts, logic, communication, instinct, and education.

In the guidebook for this deck, the is associated with the keywords of communication, sacrifice, truth, hope, release, and renewal.

Slow Down

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and focused on how all the little things in life are what make life worth living.  The intent in the guided meditation was to learn to better focus and be grateful for all of those little things, rather than taking them for granted.

Today’s draw is the Eight of Wands with a jumper card of the Three of Swords.

The Eight of wands is a representation of fast moving action, or a quick and energetic forward movement or action in the areas of one’s passions and enthusiasm, inspiration, and drive.

The Three of Swords was my jumper card.  It is a representation of heartbreak and emotional pain and all that it entails, including not just hurt and pain, but also sorrow and/or grief.

It took me most of the day to grasp the message in these cards.   I think the jumper card just took me by surprise and, on only about 3 hours of sleep, my brain just couldn’t function enough to grasp what they were saying.

As this draw is for a positive message to carry with me throughout my day and provide perspective, you can imagine that I spent a good amount of time dwelling on this.  Funny how, after taking a nap, it just comes clear… just like that.

These cards in conjunction with each other are telling me that sometimes when you leap ahead and go at something full boor, that  you end up in a mess of hurt as a result.   It is a reminder to slow down and take my time.  Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and sometimes that means that you take your time and pour over the little details rather than forging ahead all gung-ho.
