Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

The Yellow House Tarot's Empress Card and The Oracle of the Soul Healing Messenger Cards

Today’s draw is The Empress card, which is traditionally a representation of a nurturing energy of strength and empowerment without losing that “softer side” in the process, abundance, fertility, the divine feminine, and Mother Earth.

The Empress card has then been combined with the Heart card from The Oracle of the Soul Healing Messenger, which says, “…pause and reflect on your state of mind, identify the inner conflicts, and listen to your inner voice. By doing so you can reconnect with your relationship needs, comprehend your underlying desires, and determine what your heart truly seeks.”

It’s important to remember that nurturing is about more than just caring for those things and people outside yourself. When we look at the Empress card, sometimes that nurturing energy isn’t about other people or things, but about taking care of ourselves as well.

After all, if our own cup has run dry, then we have no water to offer to anyone else in need. Thus, taking care of ourselves is in itself another faucet of taking care of others.

The message in today’s Empress card and affirmation is a reminder that your relationships and your connections with others depend on taking care of yourself. It’s not just about taking care of everyone else. It can’t be, because if you’re not taking care of yourself, then you will have nothing left with which to take care of others, and that care of others will then suffer as a result.

Settling – What insight is settling into place in my mind?

Strike a Match – “Sometimes, the best way to discover what’s ahead is to take that first step and see things in a whole new light.”

Discomfort and uncertainty aren’t necessarily a bad thing if you choose to look at them as opportunities to expand on your understanding of others in the world around you, rather than something standing in your way or potentially harmful to you or what’s important to you.

This new fear and discomfort with uncertainty isn’t something that you’ve always experienced. It’s something that has risen within you in response to now having things in your life that you value and don’t want to lose.

These new fearful reactions to uncertainty put these things of value at risk more so than your previous devil may care approach back when you had nothing to lose.

Mars square Neptune, Mercury trine Saturn, Venus sextile Jupiter
What disciplined step will support my long-term goals?

Meditation – “Sometimes, doing nothing and allowing yourself to recharge is exactly what your mind and body need.”

More consistency in your meditation practice is needed. It’s a mere ten minutes a day, and there is absolutely no reason you cannot spare these ten minutes of doing absolutely nothing. Ten minutes that are just for yourself and nothing else.

You can spare this much time for yourself each day. Putting it off and skipping your sessions is a concession towards your self harming and self sabotage tendencies. It’s not even an emotional response, nor is it a logical one. Don’t give into these tendencies so easily.

How can I act on this with courage and clarity?

Becoming – “… you’re allowed to take things at your own pace and in time your true colors will shine.”

Pay attention to the benefits that doing your meditation practice on a regular and consistent basis provide for you. Usually, when you see these benefits, it triggers, your self sabotage tendencies. Instead, allow yourself to see these developments and benefits as the first step to something that might become something even more remarkable. They are the first results, not the end results. Be curious about what comes after these first results appear.

What unresolved angst is my inner adolescent still holding onto?

Four of Swords and Echinacea

The inability to rest and regroup without guilt getting in the way.

You were condition for a young age to reject the need for rest and recovery. Instead, you were required to always be doing something. It could be that you were laid up and couldn’t move, but you could read, and thus you studied. Regardless, rest and recuperation on its own was never an acceptable use of your time.

Today, as an adult, you still feel guilt when you take time to rest and regroup. This guilt triggers the angst in your inner adolescent, for one of the things they wanted most was just to rest and relax once in a while without constantly being pushed to do something more with their time.

How can I help my inner adolescent to let go of their unresolved angst?

The Hierophant and Mullein

When that angst flares to life, remind your inner adolescent that you are working on learning how to care for yourself as you need to be cared for, and at eradicating the legacy of abuse you inherited.

Point out all the times in which you choose to treat yourself kindly, and encourage them to see that you are working on resolving this issue and not letting it become a systemic expectation throughout the rest of your life.

Soul Tarot - Death card and the In This Moment Affirmation Cards

Today’s draw is the Death card, which is traditionally a representation of gradual organic changes, loss, slow moving transitions, and letting go.

The Death card has then been combined with an affirmation from the In This Moment Mindful Affirmation Cards, which says, “In this moment, I live in the moment. I focus on the now.”

I love the depiction of a nurse log as Death in this deck. It creates for me an awareness of cycles and promise.

In the forest, when you come upon a nurse log, some only see the destruction and decay of a fallen tree. Others only see what -could- be done with the tree and the land beneath it.

Those that are open to being mindful in the moment, though, find that this dead tree is not dead at all. It is teeming with life. It’s sacrifice and thus its fallen body host and shelter an innumerable variety of creatures and plants both… including saplings that will grow tall into strong and healthy trees.

Thus, the nurse log isn’t the end, but rather the next stage in an ever continuing cycle of life.

The message in today’s Death card and affirmation is a reminder of how much richness and life there is in this moment… even in the presence of Death.

Tarot Reading with The Yellow House Tarot and Tree Magick Oracle

A place that makes me feel happy or at peace

The Moon and The Judas Tree

The drown (aka. subspace). Here’s the thing about my relationship with Gid. He is intense. Together, we are intense. Especially so during sex. His dominant nature draws out a need to yield and submit that I’ve never even experienced with anyone else, let alone wanted to explore. With him? It’s natural. So natural that there’s no choice to it. It just happens. In fact, the first time I experienced around him I ran scared.

Eighteen years later, I’m now quite addicted, of course. Even with the misery of the subsequent drop (subdrop), it’s something I find myself eager to experience again and again. A safe place created just for me filled with a myriad of uncertainties held at bay by him.

A tradition or little ritual I want to keep creating

The Magician and Peach Tree

I want to continue in growing into those things I enjoy. This means releasing not only those things that no longer serve me, but also those ones I just plain don’t enjoy in favor of the activities and pursuits that I do.

For me, this is a relatively new concept, as I was raised to prioritize responsibly and obligation above all else including my own safety and happiness. This change in toward prioritizing myself and my own likes is something I would like to develop into a sacred tradition of self care and self kindness.

Philosophical Question for August 5th
: Does luck (good or bad) actually exist?

Tarot Reading with the Soul Tarot

Reading Summary: Luck is far more about the energy you put into a thing (all the Wands) than about divine timing or fate (The Devil atop Two of Wands).

It’s not about planning, which can create unreasonable expectations and a mindset of pass-or-fail (again, The Devil atop Two of Wands). Rather, it’s about doing with an open mind (Page of Wands atop Six of Wands).

Take Away: Although these cards don’t deny the existence of good luck or bad luck, what they do is instead indicate that most of what people interpret as luck is actually a misidentification of consequences.

While there may be circumstances that appear like good luck, for example, much in the same way that grass always looking greener in the other side of the fence, it is far more often to be the repercussions (good or bad) of the energy and attitude you bring into the situation, path, or endeavor.
