Perspectives on Fear

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the #DailyTrip sessions in the Calm app.

The topic of today’s session was about how we can find comfort and connection in our practice by being mindful during meditation of all the others in the world who might be meditating in that same moment with us. How, even in this very personal thing, that we are not alone but sharing the experience with others through energy and intent.

The Binding of Isaac Tarot's Four of Swords and Halloween Affirmation Cards@GlitterbyInk #OctoberCauldron24 Prompt
Cauldron of Warming Prompt for October 4th
: Vision

Today’s draw is the Four of Bombs (Swords) combined with the affirmation “I have the power to turn any fear into laughter.”

When you are taking moments of rest and using them to consider what has come before and what comes next, make sure that you are not letting your fears and worries hem you in and stifle your potential.

Look at these fears and instead of minimizing yourself, minimize those things that you are afraid of.  See them as small and ineffectual, look at them in a different light and find the humor that lies in being scared of these things.  In doing so, you can let them go and move forward more confidently.

Question for October 4th : Ever mind the rule of three, what I send forth {pick a card to represent what you want to focus on in this moment} comes back to me {draw three cards}.

Cute and Creepy OracleWhat I Send Forth Work – Focusing on your responsibilities is often your modus operandi. Whether during holiday rush or not, work and your responsibilities take priority and thus ground you even during the busiest or most stressful of times.

Comes Back to Me Weed Out, Hope, Explosive – The person in your life trying to get under your skin is frustrated by your ability to prioritize work and responsibility over trivial things like emotions or ego. This makes it difficult and frustrating for them to create the affect on you they seek, and thus illicit the response they want from you.

This means that by focusing on work and responsibilities, they have no choice but to either put their true colors on display or back off. In either case, the chaos will be temporary and calm with prevail.

Philosophical Question for October 4th : Can anyone on the other side make contact when the veil is thin?

The Binding of Isaac Tarot - Two of Swords, Five of Cups, Five of WandsReading Summary: There are a lot of influencing factors that play a part in whether or not someone can come through or not from the other side. Things like despair or conflict can get in the way (Five of Hearts and Five of Pennies), no matter how determined they are to give it a go (Two of Bombs).

Take Away: So, the answer here is no.  Not everyone can be contacted through the veil, even when it is at its thinnest.  Different obstacles such as emotions or conflict can create barriers that can then block that individual from coming through.  These obstacles aren’t just benign blockages, but are able to thwart even the most determined individuals.

Other elements included in this reading:
Foraged Deer Rib for Connection through the Veil
Cinnamon Sticks for Boosting Intentions
Moonstone for Emotional Stability
Selenite for Purification and drawing in Positive Energy

Prompt for October 4th : What’s falling away this autumn?

Earth & Bone OracleThe Pack – Your opportunities to work on yourself and delve into the inner workings of your psyche and heart are coming to an end for the year.  You’ve had the entirety of the year to explore, but now these opportunities are drawing to a close for now.

Burrow – You’ve spent a lot of time this year working on getting rest when you can and allowing yourself some time just enjoying instead of constantly pushing yourself.  Your chance to do this is falling away now that the holiday rush approaches, and exhaustion is soon to follow.

Trinity – Juggling multiple priorities and responsibilities is about to become more challenging, the ease of keeping many things in the air at once quickly ending for the year.  As your business picks up, more and more of those priorities outside of your business will need to take a step back until the new year rolls around.

Take Away – All of this is a natural part of the end of the year for you. With the holiday rush approaching, there are a lot of positive and healthy influences and activities that have to be put on the back burner to allow the holiday rush to go off as smoothly as possible. Then, come January, they will resurface to be reestablished in your life once more.

Other elements included in this reading:
Dried Red Maple Leaf for Adaptability and Connection

Daily Self Kindness

Rosco BondageI taped Rosco over the fire alarm siren on the wall of my condo.  Today was fire alarm checks day. A service comes in and tests the fire systems in the building including the sprinklers throughout the building and the alarms in each unit.

When they test each unit’s alarm, the full-building alarm goes off, which is ear splitting and shrill and comes from a siren installed behind where Rosco is taped.  Taping Rosco over it doesn’t silence the sound, but deafens it enough that it’s not so ear piercing and anxiety inducing.

Proof that sometimes?  A little bondage is just what you need in life.  😂

Movement Needed

IMG_2827Today’s meditation was just over ten minutes long and focused on taking time to enjoy the little things that make you feel good, happy, and contented in life.

I think that we all sometimes take these things for granted, and I know that I have definitely been guilty of this lately.   Today’s meditation was a good reminder that when times are hectic and stressful, it’s important to take a step back and just let yourself enjoy the little things a bit.

I guess it could be called “smelling the roses”, which is my mother’s favorite phrase for this sort of thing.   Although, I don’t think that encompasses those things that truly give you comfort.

zx5iwpctToday’s draw is the Two of Stone (Pentacles) which is usually seen as a representation of finding balance in one’s responsibilities and daily life among other meanings.

When I look at the imagery for today’s card, though, I’m not so much feeling that sense of balance I usually feel when the Two of Pentacles appears.  Instead, this card speaks to me of being in the in-between space.   Like being in that moment of transition between one moment and the next, one choice and another.   Hanging in the balance between the two, rather than juggling.

The appearance of this card reminds me that you can’t hang in limbo forever.  Sooner or later, you have to move.

Question
: How can I improve my relationship with rest?

Britt's Third Eye Tarot

Reading Summary: I love the Emperor card in this deck.  Just sayin’.

To improve my relationship with rest I need to allow myself (Emperor) to set aside what doesn’t work (Six of Swords) and disappointments (Five of Cups) and make the choice to move forward from them into something better (The Lovers).

Take Away:  One of the ways in which my drive gets in the way of my rest is by beating myself up for my failures and those things that just don’t work out or that I can’t finish for whatever reason.  When I try to rest, this habit of berating whispers sneak in to tell me that it’s because of those restful moments that I failed in the first place.  It’s bullshit… but that’s what happens.  The cards indicate if I want a better relationship with rest, I need to truly set those things aside and make the choice to look forward with hope and ambition rather than backwards with disappointment and degradation.

Question
: What is the difference between living and being alive?

Gay Tarot

Reading Summary: Instead of allowing yourself to be overwhelmed (Seven of Cups) accept that each of us evolves (The World) to find our own path that is right for us (The Fool).

Take Away:  The difference between living and being alive is choice.  It’s tailoring your life to fit you personally, and following that personal path rather than allowing others to force things upon you that aren’t a good fit.

Question
: Theme for Next Month / Lesson to be learned

The Binding of Isaac TarotTheme for Next Month: The Page of Pennies (Cups) indicates that the theme for next month will be one of discovery and finding a path forward into reconnecting with and feeding my creativity.

Lesson To Be Learned:  Sometimes you have to let go of something in order to grab on to something even better. You may mourn what has to be let go of, but all is not lost in these moments… instead, it’s a time to fostering hope.

You’ve Got This

Today’s meditation was just over twelve minutes long, and was not a guided meditation.  Instead, I used the time as an opportunity to center and calm from the burst of anxiety I woke up with first thing this morning.

The meditation involved some breath counting exercises, and a body scan that went from head to toes and then slowly back up again.  It was relaxing, and actually did help a bit in getting that tight anxiety knot in my gut to ease up some.

Prisma Visions TarotToday’s draw is The Magician card of the Major Arcana.  This card is an indication of being resourceful and having all the “tools” you need to manifest what you want to come into being.

The appearance of The Magician in today’s draw is as a cheerleader.  The Magician has appeared to essentially tell me “You’ve got this”.

After my exploits at mother’s club yesterday, I woke up today feeling a bit awkward and out of sorts.  Sort of like a hammer might be about to drop at any moment. The Magician’s appearance is a reminder that IF a hammer drops (or even if it doesn’t and it’s just me having a bit of a tweak at what I did in humiliating my mother) that I have everything I need to deal with any issues that arise as a result.

Question
: What is my relationship with my body?

The Binding of Isaac Tarot

Reading Summary: I really want to be good to myself (Queen of Pennies) and have lots of ideas on how to do so (Page of hearts), but when it comes to the doing part of the equation, I’m just not following through with the skill and solid dedication that is needed (King of Keys).

Take Away:  Essentially, the cards are saying I’m “all talk and no action” when it comes to the self care of my body.  And they aren’t wrong.  A lot of my self care focus rests not on my body (other than the need for rest), but on my emotional and mental well-being instead.

Question
: What skill in my tarot practice needs improvement?

Gay Tarot

Reading Summary:  Providing a sense of stability and uplifting messages (Four of Wands) in times of grief and loss (Three of Wands and Five of Coins).  There is also a modicum of conflict in these types of readings where I am concerned (Five of Wands).

Take Away:  Even before I was mute, I didn’t do too great with grief readings.  My delivery is a bit too blunt at a time when most people need a gentler approach. The conflict in these cards has to do with me avoiding mediumship in readings. If the reading from last fall is any indication, there’s clearly a latent ability here that I have been actively avoiding.

Question
: Morning message / Nighttime reflection

PrismaVisions TarotInterpretation:  It’s not surprising at all that I would receive the same card for this reading as I got for my morning COTD.  The Magician’s message is that “You’ve got this” and the reiteration of the message means that there is more.  The second appearance references not just my trepidation concerning yesterday’s escapades, but also today’s game of “catch up” as I try to get orders ready to go out tomorrow after having spent some time out of town.   The nighttime reflection message has to deal with

The appearance of the Devil card as the nighttime reflection has to do with the amount of distraction that I allowed into my day.  I couldn’t really afford any distractions at all, but I did.  As a result, I ended up more behind than I’d like and needing to carry some of my work for tomorrow’s shipments over into the morning, which will in turn set me behind in my trip to the post office, and cause me to be later in getting home from that trip.  Repercussions and consequences from the bit of distraction I allowed myself earlier in the day.
