Navigating the Path

Today’s meditation was a ten minute long #DailyCalm session from the @Calm app that focused on the ancient Greek concept of sophrosyne, which is described as a healthy approach to moderation based on a deep sense of self-awareness.

(The sophrosyne) philosophy begins by acknowledging our excesses and then mindfully recognizing the difference between need and want. Once we recognize how and why we over-consume, sophrosyne suggests that we focus on what we’ll gain rather than what we’ll lose by changing our habits. With this mindset, moderation isn’t a constraint on our wishes and pleasures, but rather it’s a source of balance, health, and peace. Of course, change takes time and effort, and it’s important that we face our excesses with patience and compassion; especially if we slip up. So, the next time you have the urge to binge watch or shop or feast keep in mind the philosophy of sophrosyne and start by asking is this a need or want?” – Tamara Levitt

Akashic Eye Tarot - Seven of CupsThe @GlitterbyInk #NovemberWhispers25 Liminal Dreamland Challenge
Truth-Teller Prompt for November 8
: Threshold
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Seven of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of themes having to do with having a plethora of options to choose from, all of opportunity’s doors being open upon one’s path, and at times being overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices available in the moment.

Choose your path wisely. It can be difficult sometimes to consider which direction to take in life, especially if you have multiple options to choose from.

When you stand on the threshold of a new opportunity, it’s wise to pause and consider instead of leaping into action right away. That doesn’t mean that you should stay there forever, considering which one you want, but it does mean that you need to consider which of your options is best suited to you and the possible repercussions of your choices.

The message in today’s card combined with the prompt “threshold” is a reminder to think before you act. Each and every decision we make hold consequences and repercussions, and make up the steps we take on our life’s path and the directions on which that path leads us. When presented with a new opportunity, make sure that you are considering these factors when making your decisions.

The Hierophant Spread

The Hierophant Oracle Reading with the Terra Oracle

Where do you seek meaning?

The Pig – Your fear of scarcity often drives you to overindulge. You then seek some kind of meaning in those over indulgences, in an effort to create value where otherwise there would be very little.

Who can you learn from?

The Dragonfly – You can learn from anyone and everyone that creates value in your life in some way. It is in their contribution and your gratitude that these lessons reside for you.

What do you believe in?

The Salmon – You believe that every discomfort has a higher purpose in life; that each trial is a lesson, and every failure includes a boon.

Where do you conform?

The Wasp – You believe that your doctors know better than you. This includes both those that treat you physically, as well as mentally. Although you may ask questions (mostly in order to further your own education rather than to disagree or argue), you are usually willing to trust and follow their advice and suggestions when provided.

What traditions do you follow?

The Chameleon – There are no traditions out there that you follow to the letter. You believe in adaptation in order to keep traditions going, which helps adjust them to new situations and new generations. It’s not about remaking anything or changing it, for at heart it is still the same tradition, just adapting it for better a fit and to keep it alive even as the world changes.

Where do you commit?

The Walrus – You’re committed to protecting both your own and others vulnerabilities. This is the reason that your spiritual practice, and especially your tarot practice, often focuses on empowerment.

Other elements included in this reading:
Foraged Oak Branch with Moss and Lichen for Perseverance
Foraged Ponderosa Pine Cone for Resilience and Adaptability
Desert Rose for Purification and drawing in Positive Energy

Death Prompts for November 7th

Tarot Reading with the Akashic Eye Tarot and Викканский Оракул ТенейLet Go – Virgo, Queen of Swords, Book of Shadows – Your struggles with your memory make it hard for you to let go of the things that are not written down, as you fear forgetting them.

As you just went through a depression through the month of September and first week of October, you have a lot of missing time at your heels that your logical brain wants to pick at and try and bring back to the surface for posterity.

Let go of this idea, and consider seeing this time just past your depressive episode as a time of rebirth and renewal.

Find Support – Candle, Seven of Coins, Toad – Healing takes time and honesty. Honesty with yourself and honesty with those that you choose to let help you on your healing journey. When you hide away your pain, your scars, and your vulnerability, it only delays the healing that you could otherwise experience.

Dig Deeper – Priestess, Five of Swords, Moon Cat – Seek out supportive and empowering messages when you are feeling defeated. It serves no one, and prevents healing when you pick on and berate yourself instead of providing words of hope and support during these times.

Also, consider reaching out to the Minoan goddess Amalthea in these situations, as this is a way in which you could begin to explore your connection to her in more depth.

Other elements included in this reading:
Pressed Pansy Flowers for Hearing the Heart More Clearly
Japanese Cherry Leaf as a Reminder of Life’s Fleeting Moments
Rose Quartz for Gentle Kindness to Self and Others
Selenite for Purification and drawing in Positive Energy

Daily Self Kindness

I had “real food” for dinner (mac n cheese), instead of allowing myself to just snack on junk all evening as I was tempted to do.

Self Care Saturday (On a Sunday)

These Saturday readings are (not usually) bearing in on any one thing or event in my life, as the question used is asking for a more general outlook. This is a self care exercise, and is not meant as a predictive reading… although that, too, happens on occasion.

The question is… What do I need to focus for self-care through the week ahead?

Tarot of the 78 Doors, TERRA Oracle, The Crown: ETA (Emerging Toronto Artists) Oracle

EarthKnave of Swords and Rhino (Fear) – You’re going to find yourself at a crossroads this week where you will have to choose between observation or action.  Make sure that you don’t allow your fear to be the reason that you hold back from stepping forward into the light.

AirSix of Swords and Praying Mantis (Mindfulness) – Make sure you’re not “winging it” this week.  Have a plan and move forward with purpose and intent. The first step to manifestation is forethought and planning.

Water – Six of Wands and Elephant (Kindred) – Do not allow admiration or praise to be an opening for someone to endear themselves to you. Just because they admire something you do or a quality about you that you are proud of does not make them a good fit as a friend or a confidant.

FireEight of Swords, Stingray (Balance), Manatee (Compassion) – Don’t get frustrated.  Things are not going to go as planned this week concerning creative endeavors.  Remember that it’s okay to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on instead of brooding over them and making a big deal out of it.   A balanced and compassionate view of these mistakes is a far better approach, and will keep you from getting stuck in self recriminations.

WaningEmpire – It’s time to get away from the city and step outside the concrete forest and into actual trees. The good news is that a vast number of trailheads have opened up in the area for day-hikes.  Spend some time outside and let that time cleanse the pollution of too much time in the city from your soul.

WaxingDuality –  Note that this card is very close to touching the mindfulness (Stingray) card.   Moving into this week, make sure that you are allowing for an open mindfulness that allows for multiple views of the situation at hand and an unbiased quality to looking forward so that you can see all of the divergent paths that are possible before you.  Possibilities abound, and allow yourself to split apart in that forward thinking so that you can explore each thoroughly before ever taking the first step.

Take Away –  Lots of planning, watchfulness, and forethought involved with this week.  Not so much action.  The week ahead is about preparation.   Acting on creative inspiration is going to cause a little distress and struggle, but that’s okay because it is something you will learn from, so even in failure it will not be a useless experience.
And… it’s time to get your ass outside and enjoy some time in the forest’s embrace.

The question is… What do I need to focus for self-care through the week ahead?

The Fountain Tarot, TERRA Oracle, Morning Oracle

EarthThree of Cups, Hound (Pursuit), Wood Mouse (Focus) – It’s time to bear down a bit more stringently on your spending. The cards indicate that this week you will have the urge to go in pursuit of that “feel good” sensation that purchasing something you’ve become hyper focused on can bring.

AirHanged Man, Three of Coins, Komodo (Trust), Gazelle (Momentum) – You may feel the urge to run from experimenting with new skills and abilities this week, but the time is ripe for delving in and taking an in depth exploration.  Instead, trust in yourself and your abilities.

Water – Three of Wands Rx and Meerkat (Altruism) – The urge for generosity is upon you but due to current circumstances, so is the need to take small steps rather than contributing in the larger ways you might normally be prone to.  Don’t let your desire to help others make you careless concerning your own future.

FireHierophant and Yak (Strain) – Put off your lessons until next week.  Although this Wednesday is supposed to be your lesson time, it would be wise to set aside that obligation until next week.  Otherwise you are going to end up feeling overwhelmed and under too much pressure.

WaningTime – As mentioned in the Fire section of the above reading, you are going to be feeling a bit short on time this week.  This is more perception than reality, and yet that is not going to matter much as it’s perception that is influencing your life  more so than fact while you are in the process of adjusting to that new breadth of emotion.

WaxingThe Letter – Take time to get in touch with reality so that you don’t get carried away by the ethereal realm of emotion and perception.  Write things down and make ideas solid. Use your ability to sort and list to feel out the space and corners, which will allow you to grasp the difference between fact vs fiction during this confusing time.

Take Away – Turn your attention from fleeting moments of pleasure (like spending money) and sink into something more substantial like exploring your creativity.  Things are going to feel a bit disorganized and out of place this week. Ground yourself by using pen and paper to reaffirm reality over perception and emotional response, and it will help you in staying centered and less overwhelmed. For now, continue to take care to keep your generosity in check so that you do not overextend yourself.
