Barbieri Tarot - Ten of CupsThe @GlitterbyInk #JanJourney26 Embark to Renewal Challenge
The Arrival Prompt for January 15th
: Grounding
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Ten of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of feelings of completion, connection with others and harmony in those connections, and is often considered as the “happy family” card.

What is it that makes you feel safe? What is it that makes you feel satisfied and happy? What is the one thing that is absolutely free and you can do at any time that improves your life and your outlook?

For me, this is grounding. Especially grounding went out in nature. Feeling my energy dip into the hole soil and dig down in to join the other roots spread below gives me a sense of peace and calm, allowing me to truly appreciate living in a way that nothing else can.

The message in today’s “grounding” prompt and the Ten of Cup isn’t just asking us to reflect on what it is that makes us happy and creates within us a sense of peace and stability. It’s also encouraging us to participate in these things not just when we feel the need for grounding, although that is the perfect time to do so; but also just to connect with happiness, a sense of security, and a feeling of satisfaction in life as a whole that comes not through accomplishments, but through recognizing the things that create these feelings with you naturally.

Chapter 5 | Entry 5 – Health and Body
Affirmation
: “I love myself, especially during difficult days.”
Prompt
: Everyone has bad or “blah” days. Write a letter to yourself from the perspective of the card you draw. What can this card see about you that you don’t? Is there a person depicted on the card? Is there a symbol? What about the cards keyword? Meditate on the positive attributes of this cards symbolism or artwork. Include something positive about this day.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Black Cat Tarot - The Hanged ManWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

Familiarity. The Hanged Man is my favorite card, after all.

And a bit of joy at the imagery of happiness on the cat’s face. Appreciation for the flow of lines and shapes.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

This card has come up as my significator card multiple times throughout my life in life-path readings done for me by others. It is a reminder to seek perspectives outside my own and always strive to see things from more that just a single angle.

I resonate strongly with this message and feel it is a major part of my life’s lessons and journey to strive to always see (and understand) things from others viewpoints as well as from my own.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The monkey kitty looks happy. There’s a peacefully happy smile on its face that speaks of equanimity. There’s also a watchfulness in the eyes and angle of the head that encourages paying attention.

The unlikeliness of a cat being able to hang by its tail indicating you might only get a glimpse at best of what you’re seeking to see.

This card’s artwork seems to say that if you want to put yourself in other’s shoes and understand their perspective, you need to be able to set aside your own perspective, prejudices, and opinions for a moment.

My prompt response and reflections.

Dear L,

Thank you so much for always taking the time to listen to others, and setting your own preconceived notions aside to truly make an effort to hear and understand.

Human nature and others perspectives can sometimes be confusing, and there are times when it can feel nearly impossible to understand. You’ve found others that understand this effort, though, and are happy to try and help you wrap your mind around those people and behaviors that you’re unable to understand at first.

Keep trying. Your curiosity abounds and efforts are appreciated by those that come to you for an ear, a shoulder, or advice. This also allows you a way to grow and learn without overtaxing yourself as you do in so many other areas of your life.

At your side. Always.

Ten Brutally Honest Questions to Help Recognize Your Shadow
Shadow Work Prompts by @peppe_curto

Shadow Work Tarot Reading with the Barbieri TarotWho are you performing for… when you’re not even being real with yourself?
→ And how much longer are you willing to abandon your truth just to be tolerated?

The Red Dragon – Your father. He’s long passed now, and yet still manages to wield control over how you see yourself.

I have never abandoned my truth. I do, however, have a tendency to ignore my needs in order to strive to meet standards that are his instead of my own. I’m aware of this these days, and I’m working on shifting away from that pattern of neglect.

What emotion do you judge in others because you’re terrified of owning it in yourself?
→ (Is it rage? Neediness? Pride? Be honest.)

The Forbidden Mer – Fear of rejection. The closing off of the self due to a need to protect yourself from being hurt, to the point you become closed minded and willfully obtuse.

The emotion that you judge others for isn’t fear, but rather allowing yourself to capitulate to your fears and be subjugated by them. I’m not sure what that emotion is called.

What truth are you too afraid to speak… because it might cost you being loved?
→ Or are you really just afraid of no longer being liked, accepted, or seen as “good”?

The Savior – That you need more support from others and are struggling far more than you let on.

This echoes back to my father and his ideas and ideals concerning being “a man”. I worry that if I show too much vulnerability, it will cause people to see me as perpetually weak.

What identity are you addicted to because without it, you feel invisible?
→ Who are you without the healer, the good one, the rebel, the successful one?

The Sorceress – Your longevity in divination and witchcraft allows you to feel seen in ways that you aren’t always acknowledged in other circles in your life that don’t include these aspects.

I work hard to balance this place of pride with a healthy dose fallibility. I feel it’s important that I’m not seen as all knowing and infallible in these areas, or in anything really. That said, in circles where this aspect of my life (divination and witchcraft) doesn’t play a role, I’m still a well grounded person people often come to for a sense of stability.

Whose voice is in your head when you’re doubting your worth?
→ And how long are you gonna let them rent space in there?

The Warrior Queen (pointing to the Red Dragon) – Your parent’s voices. It isn’t really one of them or the other, but both. This was a bit of a surprise, actually. It used to be just my father’s, but when I discovered the closed minded aspects of my mother I’d not realized were there when I was younger, her voice joined in.

As mentioned in the first question in this reading, I’m working on it. Awareness and acknowledgement are always the first step.

What version of yourself are you constantly performing… just to feel safe?
→ And is the performance worth the price?

The Green Knight – You like to present yourself as impervious. This feels like it protects you not just in that you “feel safe”, but also in that it feels like when others see you that way, they won’t even bother to try to hurt you. Sort of  how being aware of your surroundings in public and looking like you’d put up a fight can protect you from being mugged.

No. It’s not always worth the price. It can be a useful tool, but it also often creates a feeling of isolation.

What mask has become so familiar that you’ve started calling it “you”?
→ The confident one? The mysterious one? The put-together one?

Blue Archer – You don’t like to display your vulnerabilities, and thus have a tendency to “keep yourself at a distance” even when you put yourself within reach of others.

All of the above. It’s all about your worry of sharing too much, and thus opening yourself up to emotional pain.

What part of your truth are you sugarcoating to avoid being misunderstood?
→ And who are you really protecting?

Guardian of the Gates – You have a tendency to present yourself as friendly and approachable, hiding the more intense sides of your personality to only allow others a glimpse of those qualities instead of the full experience.

Myself. Sometimes I play it off in my head that my recalcitrance is to protect others from the more negative aspects of my personality, but the truth is I’m protecting myself from what I expect to be their negative reactions.

What do you secretly hope they never find out about you?
→ Because that’s where your real work lives.

The Sacrificial Lamb – That you feel far more broken and afraid that you let on, and don’t trust others to be kind or gentle.

I know that this is where my real work lives.

Why the f*ck do you still need 10 questions to look at your own shadow?
→ Stop doing shadow work on Instagram and go search for your shadow in everyday life interactions.

Who’s There? – Questions to assist in looking at your shadow help because shadows can often be hard to see and/or penetrate, making it difficult to seeing things clearly, playing tricks with the eyes and our self perception.

This reading is a step in that direction.

The Arrival Prompt for January 14th
: Expansion
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Ramses Tarot - Three of PentaclesToday’s draw is the Three of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of teamwork, collaboration, working together, and themes to do with bringing in help and/or outside expertise in order to get something done.

Not only is the saying correct that “it’s better together”, but you also get more done. Sometimes you struggle with watching others do things that you are used to doing on your own, primarily because they do them slower than you do.

The thing is though, that even if they’re doing them slower… because they are doing them instead of you, that frees you up to do other things instead. That means you get more done.

The message in today’s cards is that it doesn’t matter if they can’t do things as quickly as you can. They’re still taking things off your hands, which gives you more time in the long run. This allows for not just a better job done overall, but the ability to reach further and do more in the same amount of time.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Dark Sphynx Tarot - The Sun CardWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

“Is that a fuckin’ grasshopper?”

I was expecting it to throw me a primarily “negative” card that I would need to translate into a positive. So The Sun card, which is usually quite positive in its interpretation, took me by surprise.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The Sun card is often about success and joyful moments. This lands in the exact polar opposite of my negative inner voice, which often makes it clear that no matter how hard I work or how much I do, I don’t deserve these things.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The grasshopper, obviously. It spoke to me about just how annoying positivity can sometimes be. Crickets and grasshoppers make this chirping noise that outside can be relaxing, but when ends up inside or excessive, can become extremely annoying. (This is a Gideon problem, and something that happens to him yearly during late summer and early autumn.)

The champagne glass also caught my attention, drawing it as well to how dapper the figure is dressed. This clearly indicates to me not just success, but celebration of those successes.

My prompt response and reflections.

It’s important to recognize, appreciate, and even celebrate your successes. In doing so you combat that negative inner voice that keeps telling you that you’re not enough, and never doing enough.

By discounting your successes to instead simply move onto the next thing, and then the next, you end up reinforcing that negative inner voice and what it has to say.

: Would life lose meaning if we could live forever?

Philosophical Tarot Reading with the Ramses TarotReading Summary: Not as long as we could achieve a balance (Justice) by focusing on our connections with others (Two of Cups) and a version of personal happiness and satisfaction that includes them and our awareness of them (Ten of Cups).

Take Away: These cards say that as long as we have things -in- our life that give our life meaning (and make sure that we are acknowledging them), then the length of life would have no impact on whether life has meaning for us or not.

In my personal opinion, I have a feeling that even if you fill your life with things that matter, there’s always going to be times of boredom and disenchantment. I don’t think that this has to do with longevity, though, but rather with human nature as a whole.  We experience these in our short lives, and we would experience them in an immortal life as well.

🎨 Weekly Creativity Prompt – Different Scenarios

Prompt : “The purpose of this activity is to practice interpreting small spreads by combining card meanings, symbols and intuition. We will all interpret the same cards based on a few different (imaginary) situations. A 3 card spread will be posted together with 2 more specific scenarios. It’s your choice which scenario you’d prefer to use, or if you’d rather do a general reading of these cards as for an imaginary querent.”

Enchanted Forest Felines Tarot - Ace of Pentacles, Three of Pentacles, Queen of Wands

Scenario 1 – Ennis has made it to midlife, with a steady job, partner, house, and family. Only, now things are boringly steady and they’re not sure if they should pursue a new job, or go back to school. Their partner is supportive of either, so now they’re coming to you for another perspective.

With your partner front and center there to help and support you in your endeavors, something new to spice up life is a good idea.  Take time to think ahead instead of just about which options seem exciting right now in the moment. Consider consulting advisors that know more about the options you’re considering than you do.  In seeking out guidance from others that know more than you, you’ll be better able to identify which opportunity is best suited for you moving forward.

Scenario 2 – Jo has had a string of short and ultimately unfulfilling relationships over the last few years, and is coming to you for guidance on how to find something more fulfilling, and maybe more lasting.

Instead of focusing on those people that make you feel excited and give you those wild tingles of excitement, in order to find something more fulfilling you need something more stable.

Lots of times, this comes off as something “boring”, but the excitement needs to come from the experiences you have with this other person, rather than from the person themselves. Seek those that can bring more to the table than just that fiery spark of chemistry, and you’ll be more likely to find a more long lasting match as a result.

Scenario 3 –A general reading (feel free to add your own flair or a backstory).

A new opportunity rests on the horizon, but it’s not something that you can take on by yourself. To start off on a good foot and encourage success in this new endeavor, make sure that you bring those with you in your life that are eager to join you in the journey, and take care to get some advice along the way from those that have tread this path before you.

Woodland Fairy Tale Tarot - The ChariotThe @GlitterbyInk #JanJourney26 Embark to Renewal Challenge
The Arrival Prompt for January 13th
: Patience
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is The Chariot card, which is traditionally a representation of control, willpower, determination, and the strength of purpose to “take the reins” and steer yourself in the path you wish to follow.

Like the story of Puss’n Boots, sometimes getting things to move in the direction that you want them to move in isn’t about force. It’s about cunning, persistence, and the patience to allow things to fall into place in their own time once you’ve set things in motion.

The message in today’s “Patience” prompt and The Chariot card is a reminder that you don’t have to have a tight and controlling grip on the reins throughout the entire process of making it to your goals. That controlling grip can often hinder more than it helps.

Instead, try strategizing first, then put things into motion before stepping back to apply some patience to the process. Sometimes things will then fall into place on their own after that, or only need a little light nudging along the way instead of a vice grip.

Affirmation
: “I learned from my past relationships with family.”
Prompt : Family dynamics can often present challenges for you to live through and learn from. What is the most challenging aspect of your current family relationship? Pull a card to understand how you can release this difficulty.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Arcanamon Tarot - The LoversWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

A moment of relief that I wasn’t going to be advised to “suck it up”.

This is an unreasonable and unfounded fear, as my cards would never respond in a manner that would be  cruel or hurtful by telling me to do this at the sacrifice of self-care.

And yet, somewhere deep inside, the expectation was there all the same.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The most challenging aspect of my current family dynamics has to do with elder care, and running myself ragged with the responsibilities of elder care. The meaning of The Lovers card often reminds us that we need to give ourselves the care we need, and make choices to move towards those things that resonate greatest within us.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

I’ve been feeling a need for a bit of extra TLC over the last few days, and the snuggle of the two figures in the card imagery really hit home to me in this area. The imagery of the snuggling also brings to mind that I’ve been actively trying to seek out that with Gideon over the last few days instead of ignoring this need within me, as I usually have had tendency to do the past.

My prompt response and reflections.

Diffusing the difficulty in the elder care you are currently responsible for isn’t about walking away. It’s about making sure that you are getting your own needs met along the way, instead of sacrificing or ignoring them in order to prioritize the needs of the elder in question.

Don’t forget that your needs are just as important, if not more important, than theirs.

The Journey Prompt for January 12th
: Stride
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Happy Monsters Tarot - The Lovers CardToday’s draw is The Lovers card, which is traditionally a representation of love and relationships, long term contracts, harmonious unions, and making choices that are geared toward what is best for you.

You aren’t really “hitting your stride” if you’re ignoring your needs.

The phrase “hitting your stride” refers to achieving a pace which you can sustain for the long-term in a healthy manner.

Therefore, if you are ignoring your needs in order to “hit your stride”, then you’re not really hitting that stride at all because you’re neglecting yourself in the process.

The message in today’s “Stride” prompt and The Lovers card, is that self-care needs to be a priority in life. This isn’t in reference to the “special stuff” that you do just to make yourself feel pampered, but rather refers to giving yourself those things that you need to be healthy and happy. It means prioritizing things like food, sleep, cleanliness, and moments of pause, rest, and reflection, instead of neglecting them in order to prioritize other things that in the grand scheme of things are less important.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Atomic Bomb Tarot - The Tower CardWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

That moment of confusion that indicates this is a “use your brain” card, instead of intuition alone as the basis for interpretation.

A slight frown of rejection, as crash and burning my relationship is not up for discussion.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

Honestly? The first thing that came to mind was the crash and burn aspect. And, although this doesn’t really apply well to my romantic relationship, it does apply to my relationship with my mother.

With her, moments of crash and burn create a dynamic that is acceptable to both of us. Without those moments, we are unable to tolerate each other’s sets of values and life view.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

I noticed the dead bee on the ground first, then noted that the tower depicted in this card is a hive. This, to me, speaks of a destruction of family rather than just structure.

I then noticed the tree of life within the lightning bolt, which says to me that within the destruction there is a cycle and possible healing.

Coming in at the tail end of visual cues, I then noticed the crown laying beside the bee on the ground. This brought me to thoughts of my mother, and the toppling of my mother off of her “queen bee” position in my life.

My prompt response and reflections.

There is a reason you cut off communication with your mother. In doing so you are making a point that you have not been able to make in the past through more minor moments of discord and destruction.

These “rebellious” moments did create a “tower” effect with your mother, but never really made any true change or spurred the healing needed.

By having cut off your mother for all this time, though, you have given her a true taste of what it is to lose a child. This card is bringing the dynamic with her back into focus for you, asking you if it’s not time to reconnect and see if from the destruction you can build a better relationship moving forward. You know, before she passes on and it becomes too late.

What matters now.

Six of Pentacles – Be generous. Not just with others, but also with yourself. Generosity doesn’t always have to present through monetary means or resource based gifts. Sometimes it’s about your time, or your attention, or an ear to listen. The key is to remember is that as generous as you are to others, you need to make sure that you are being just as kind and generous with yourself.

What doesn’t.

The Lovers (on its side) – If whatever you’re pursuing is keeping you from taking care of your own needs, then it’s not worth it and doesn’t matter. Figure out how to include your needs in the equation, or cut out those things that are blocking you from giving yourself what you need.

The Journey Prompt for January 11th
: Courage
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Page of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of a receptive “omega” energy in the area of one’s finances, resources, health, labors, home life, and manifestations. This often translates into themes that have to do with work apprenticeships and learning a new ability or skill.

Starting over takes courage.

The Page in any suit is often a representation of a “learners mind”. It is also the cycling back to one from the Ace of that suit. (The journey moves from Ace through Ten then recycles back to One with Card 11/The Page.)

This often creates themes of starting over or going back to the drawing board. The nice thing about the Page, though, is that you’ve already gone through the beginning, the middle, and the end. That means that you already have experience to add to your next try.

The message in today’s “Courage” prompt and the Page of Pentacles card is a reminder that when you pick yourself up to try again, you’re not really starting from scratch. You carry with you the experiences you’ve gained the first time around. This means that with an open mind directed toward changing how you did things is the first time, you have a better chance of succeeding when you then try again.

The Anonymous Tarot - Wheel of FortuneWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

I always get a bit of a rosy turbo feeling when I see the Wheel of Fortune card represented by a spoked wheel. It brings back memories of old and well worn childhood playgrounds, and the spinning wheel toy often included in them. They were both super fun, and dangerous as hell.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

We never know what life is going to throw at us, and what surprises lurk around the next corner. Even the best laid plans go awry now and then.

The Wheel of Fortune card doesn’t just speak of good luck and bad luck, but on the vast variety of experiences that we go through in life. It is the epitome of the saying “variety is the spice of life”, and reminds us that ups and downs are how the world goes round.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The different colors positioned around the wheel in this card speak to me of a wide variety of different experiences. Not all of them are good, not all of them are bad.

My prompt response and reflections.

Gideon has watched you ride the rise and fall of fate’s whims again and again, and has often told you that he admires your survivor spirit. Tarot Reading with The Robin Wood Tarot and Hilma Af Klint Oracle

What is a negative thing in your life that you don’t need to stress over?

Self-Portrait 1890 – It’s okay not to know everything right now, and not be ready to make a move. Even the greatest companies and brands in the world have to take time to do market research, after all. There is no success without time spent in research and reflection, so stop trying to push yourself so hard to always be moving forward and doing more.

What is a positive thing in your life that you need to spend more time focusing on?

The Atom Series No 8 – Don’t forget to ask for help. You aren’t alone, and you need to work on not functioning as if you are. Consider how you can involve others to a greater extent in your endeavors. What delegation can you do that they will be thrilled with participating in?

Do Spread 2
Question
: What in your life needs started now for it to be ready when you need it?

Reading Summary: The angle of the head in the portrait of Hilma Af Klint and the angle of the head of the figure in the Nine of Swords is identical. This speaks of your worry and uncertainty. Because you are in a situation where you don’t have enough information (partially because that information is not accessible at this time), it brings rise to your anxiety and “what if” thinking.

The Queen of Wands does not match either of the Hilma Af Klint cards that I am using as an anchor card in this reading. Instead of making her appear as an outlier,  though, the lift of her wand, centered position, and straightforward countenance make her the leader. She embodies the encouragement to keep going after those things that are important to you, rather than sitting on your laurels and doing nothing.

The Ace of Pentacles somehow holds a shape correlation for me with the squares in the Atom Series No 8 card, as well as a color connection with the Queen of Wands beside it. This speaks to me of a need for new beginnings that include others in the process. Inspire not just yourself with these new endeavors, but others as well. Get them on board for a greater chance of success.

Take Away: Don’t worry right now about having all of your ducks in a row, or knowing everything that needs to be known to make things a success. There’s a lot of uncertainty out there, and it’s not just affecting you. Instead of allowing it to make you fall into a pattern of stagnancy and waiting, do what you can and involve others in the process and keep things moving a little at a time. You may have to reassess later, but you’ll be able to use the momentum of having started already to your advantage regardless.
