❤️ Self Care Saturday (On a Sunday)

These Saturday readings are (not usually) bearing in on any one thing or event in my life, as the question used is asking for a more general outlook. This is a self care exercise, and is not meant as a predictive reading… although that, too, happens on occasion.

The question is… What do I need to focus for self-care through the week ahead?

Self Care Saturday Tarot Reading with the Gentle Universe Tarot and Mumu Neko Oracle

EarthNine of Wands – take care that you don’t go on the defensive this week. Stay soft instead of trying to brace and retaliate.

AirThree of Swords – Make sure that you are being open and honest in expressing your disappointments and vulnerabilities this week. Nothing can be fixed or changed if you don’t open up and let people know what’s going on with you.

WaterThe Star – Positivity and optimism exercises are an important part of your well-being and emotional self-care. Make sure you aren’t neglecting (or avoiding) these practices over the week ahead. After all, you can’t catch what you’re not reaching for.

FireThe Magician – You are far more capable than you give yourself credit for. Don’t allow others to dampen your shine or get in your way.

WaningThink and Salty – Those negative inner narratives going on in your head are not going to help you in having a more positive outlook in life. Stop listening to them. Turn away instead of lending them your ear.

WaxingHand and Pretty – You won’t be sorry if you decide to pull in some more shifts at the salon this week. Not only is it close to home (which ties into a few readings in the last couple of days that are telling you to stick close to home), but there’s also the bonus of potential tips.

Take Away – Self care this week needs to focus on making sure that you are staying on top of the positivity and optimism practices that help you to stay at a distance from your pessimism, and expressing to others what you are feeling instead of trying to write it off as “nothing” or hide it away. Don’t allow others to put you on the defensive.  Instead, stay soft and show that there is strength even amid moments of vulnerability.

Accept any extra shifts that may be offered at the salon this week.

The Burden of Success

Today’s meditation was a ten minute self guided session wherein I visualized my lower body tangled in the roots of a tree as my upper body floated beneath the surface of a lake. The meditation followed the changes of the season from late fall through winter to early spring from that under water perspective.

Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Pino Zac Tarot de l'an 2000 - Ten of DiamondsToday’s draw is the Ten of Pentacles (Diamonds), which is traditionally a representation of satisfaction and stability in the area of one’s finances, resources, home, health, manifestations, and the physical world. This often translates into themes that have to do with hard earned success, accomplishments, abundance created through patience and hard work.

You know that saying that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence? This is true of our ambitions and goals as well.

Take my obsession with stability and security, for example. I grasp, claw, and crawl my way to as much stability as I can possibly manage. But, when you get too much of a good thing? It’s still too much of a good thing. Stability becomes a burden when we get too much of it, and so do so many other things that we want so very badly.

The problem is? We don’t discover what a burden these things are until we’ve managed to obtain them.

The message in today’s “Discovery” prompt and the Ten of Diamonds is a reminder to always consider the pitfalls of the successes that you seek. There is good and bad in every failure and every success. It’s important to look closely at these successes we are aiming for, and make sure that the bad doesn’t outweigh the good at the end of the day.

Chapter 3 | Entry 7 – Family and Friends
Affirmation
: “No matter what family I was worn into, I can create my own.”
Prompt : Think about what the “perfect” family means to you. Create your own definition, without self editing or judgment. Using the tarot card you draw, from the artwork or symbolism to the numerology, imagine what having a perfect family would look and feel like to you.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Adventure Arcana Tarot - The FoolWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

Yearning. I don’t get a lot of time in life to be carefree and irresponsible, and that includes when I was a kid. As a result, sometimes when I see The Fool card, especially if the character in the card is looking like they’re having a good time, I feel a subtle sense of longing.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The theme of The Fool card is often about carefree moments and lack of responsibility, as well as new beginnings. This is something I’ve longed for, even as a child. Unfortunately, I learned early that carefree moments have a steep price that I’m often to not willing to pay.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

This little vampire girl is having a grand old time playing as the sun comes up, her version of Jiminy Cricket asleep on a rock instead of paying attention. She’s about to step into the sunlight, and yet doesn’t seem to have a care in the world.

My prompt response and reflections.

I feel like the perfect family would allow me to enjoy life more and be a bit less responsible all the time. Supportive enough in the ways that matter to allow me to stumble and fall more often without worrying so much about the repercussions that doing so might create.

I also feel that there is no such thing as perfection without a touch of imperfection. Perhaps that imperfection could be some idiot that messes up now and then instead of the selfish, self-serving, and often malicious intent that’s experienced in my own family from time to time.

: What do you need to focus on for self-care for this month’s new moon?

Tarot Reading with the Pino Zac Tarot de l'an 2000Reading Summary: Less consumerism and more time at home (cars eating cars eating drivers in The Lovers card) will keep you out of harms way (Nine of Hearts/Worried Angels) in more ways than one (lots of bumper-to-bumper traffic in the Six of Hearts, and visiting the mechanic that doesn’t know what he’s doing in The Chariot card).

Take Away: Cut back on your spending, and make sure that you are not falling victim to “spring fever”. Just because the sun is shining for a couple of days doesn’t mean it’s time to get out there and do stuff.

You can’t afford the extra trouble and extra expense that will come from spending additional time out and about this week.

There is a high chance of car trouble that will be beyond your means to fix if you ignore the advice given to you in these cards. Do what you have to do, and no more than that. You don’t want to meet the witch doctor mechanic.

New Moon in Capricorn Tarot Reading with the Merry Tarot

Structure needed?

The Magician – Take some time to get together what it is you want to happen moving forward. Goals and aspirations need to be defined first in order to succeed. You’re more than capable of taking on whatever goals you want to achieve, but the first step will always be figuring out what it is that you want.

Focused support?

Six of Cups atop Eight of Cups Rx – If you don’t have help, leave it be and go get help. Don’t be stubborn and say “fine, I’ll just do it by myself” like you have in the past. Instead, delay gratification to go enlist the help you need.

Progress towards?

Four of Pentacles atop King of Cups Rx – You can’t find emotional stability while holding yourself apart from others. A little bit of solitude is good for you from time to time, but you have a tendency to take it too far. Make sure that you are leaning into those that help you create a better emotional balance and sense of well-being, instead of shutting them out.

New Moon advice from the Minoan Goddess Amalthea.

Witchy Tarot - Ace of CupsToday’s draw is the Ace of Cups (Cauldrons), which is traditionally a representation of the seed of new beginnings in the area of one’s emotions, relationships, creativity, and intuition.

Sometimes, first impressions are fucked. Just because you meet someone and you don’t jive with them right away, or you think they’re ugly, or some other impediment is in place to you getting to know them, doesn’t mean that they’re not worth getting to know.

I mean, yes, there are boundaries and limits as to what we find acceptable and what we don’t (although, in my opinion, appearance should not be one of those factors). At the same time, though, some people just are unable to make a good first impression and need time to grow on you. That doesn’t make them bad, or not a good match for you for a relationship or friendship or whatever. It just means that it takes them a bit of tripping over their own feet before they can actually show you who they truly are.

The message in today’s “vision” prompt and the Ace of Cups is a reminder not to “judge a book by its cover” when meeting new people.

As I said, there are boundaries and lines. If someone’s abusive, and you see that from the start, no amount of getting to know them is going to make that better. But, don’t let physical appearance or “”weirdness” or an odd presentation/social performance keep you from getting to know someone better. You never know, they may grow on you and turn out to be one of your most valued allies, if you give them a chance.

Affirmation
: “I enjoy my daydreams, as they are a safe and fun space for me to be myself.”
Prompt : Daydreaming and free association can help unpack hidden desires or motivations in your subconscious. Draw a card to help guide you during your next daydream, mindful meditation, or free association writing exercise. What does this card say about what you might want more of from your daily life or what you feel may be missing?

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Don't Starve Tarot - Wheel of FortuneWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

I felt a moment of repulsion. (See the next answer for clarity.) This was then followed by my gaze latching onto the imagery to take a closer look.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

Although the Wheel of Fortune often represents luck (good and bad) and the cycles of life, this card can have a tendency to feel like it is indicating or announcing a lack of stability when I am reading for myself.

I am not a fan of lack of stability.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The depiction of the seasons of the year (or at least three of them) feels like a reminder that not all change creates imbalance. Sometimes, like with the seasons, it is in the change that takes place from one phase to the next where we find an overall balance of the whole.

Just as nature does not fight the seasons and the changes that take place from one season to the next, this artwork with its arrows pointing off in each direction speak of needing to allow life’s transitions to happen rather than fighting them.

My prompt response and reflections.

My absolute favorite daydream that I visit often is of a little house in an evergreen forest at the base of a mountain beside a flowing river. Inaccessible by vehicle, with a town just within a days reach if needed. There are gardens for food, herbs, and flowers. There is a greenhouse, a large tree in the front yard with a swing, a fireplace, and a well stocked pantry with kitchen that includes the amenities to make life easy and cooking interesting.

What the Wheel of Fortune card tells me about this daydream, is that there is too much stagnancy here to be healthy for me in real life. As much as I like to daydream about that stillness and quiet and solitude, I need more ups and downs and transitions than this daydream life could provide me in order to be happy and healthy.

Doesn’t mean it’s not a nice daydream, though.

Four of Broomsticks Rx – A decrease in dissatisfaction and less moments of failure.  There’s been a great deal of that over the past year, especially through the fall and winter. Turning around these emotions to allow for a brighter outlook is an opportunity on the horizon worth exploring.

How can you foster it into fruition?

Six of Cauldrons atop Ten of Cauldrons Rx – You can’t be both constantly searching for more as well as feel centered, satisfied, and content.

Barbieri Tarot - Ten of CupsThe @GlitterbyInk #JanJourney26 Embark to Renewal Challenge
The Arrival Prompt for January 15th
: Grounding
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Ten of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of feelings of completion, connection with others and harmony in those connections, and is often considered as the “happy family” card.

What is it that makes you feel safe? What is it that makes you feel satisfied and happy? What is the one thing that is absolutely free and you can do at any time that improves your life and your outlook?

For me, this is grounding. Especially grounding went out in nature. Feeling my energy dip into the hole soil and dig down in to join the other roots spread below gives me a sense of peace and calm, allowing me to truly appreciate living in a way that nothing else can.

The message in today’s “grounding” prompt and the Ten of Cup isn’t just asking us to reflect on what it is that makes us happy and creates within us a sense of peace and stability. It’s also encouraging us to participate in these things not just when we feel the need for grounding, although that is the perfect time to do so; but also just to connect with happiness, a sense of security, and a feeling of satisfaction in life as a whole that comes not through accomplishments, but through recognizing the things that create these feelings with you naturally.

Prompt
: Everyone has bad or “blah” days. Write a letter to yourself from the perspective of the card you draw. What can this card see about you that you don’t? Is there a person depicted on the card? Is there a symbol? What about the cards keyword? Meditate on the positive attributes of this cards symbolism or artwork. Include something positive about this day.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Black Cat Tarot - The Hanged ManWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

Familiarity. The Hanged Man is my favorite card, after all.

And a bit of joy at the imagery of happiness on the cat’s face. Appreciation for the flow of lines and shapes.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

This card has come up as my significator card multiple times throughout my life in life-path readings done for me by others. It is a reminder to seek perspectives outside my own and always strive to see things from more that just a single angle.

I resonate strongly with this message and feel it is a major part of my life’s lessons and journey to strive to always see (and understand) things from others viewpoints as well as from my own.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The monkey kitty looks happy. There’s a peacefully happy smile on its face that speaks of equanimity. There’s also a watchfulness in the eyes and angle of the head that encourages paying attention.

The unlikeliness of a cat being able to hang by its tail indicating you might only get a glimpse at best of what you’re seeking to see.

This card’s artwork seems to say that if you want to put yourself in other’s shoes and understand their perspective, you need to be able to set aside your own perspective, prejudices, and opinions for a moment.

My prompt response and reflections.

Dear L,

Thank you so much for always taking the time to listen to others, and setting your own preconceived notions aside to truly make an effort to hear and understand.

Human nature and others perspectives can sometimes be confusing, and there are times when it can feel nearly impossible to understand. You’ve found others that understand this effort, though, and are happy to try and help you wrap your mind around those people and behaviors that you’re unable to understand at first.

Keep trying. Your curiosity abounds and efforts are appreciated by those that come to you for an ear, a shoulder, or advice. This also allows you a way to grow and learn without overtaxing yourself as you do in so many other areas of your life.

At your side. Always.

Ten Brutally Honest Questions to Help Recognize Your Shadow
Shadow Work Prompts by @peppe_curto

Shadow Work Tarot Reading with the Barbieri TarotWho are you performing for… when you’re not even being real with yourself?
→ And how much longer are you willing to abandon your truth just to be tolerated?

The Red Dragon – Your father. He’s long passed now, and yet still manages to wield control over how you see yourself.

I have never abandoned my truth. I do, however, have a tendency to ignore my needs in order to strive to meet standards that are his instead of my own. I’m aware of this these days, and I’m working on shifting away from that pattern of neglect.

What emotion do you judge in others because you’re terrified of owning it in yourself?
→ (Is it rage? Neediness? Pride? Be honest.)

The Forbidden Mer – Fear of rejection. The closing off of the self due to a need to protect yourself from being hurt, to the point you become closed minded and willfully obtuse.

The emotion that you judge others for isn’t fear, but rather allowing yourself to capitulate to your fears and be subjugated by them. I’m not sure what that emotion is called.

What truth are you too afraid to speak… because it might cost you being loved?
→ Or are you really just afraid of no longer being liked, accepted, or seen as “good”?

The Savior – That you need more support from others and are struggling far more than you let on.

This echoes back to my father and his ideas and ideals concerning being “a man”. I worry that if I show too much vulnerability, it will cause people to see me as perpetually weak.

What identity are you addicted to because without it, you feel invisible?
→ Who are you without the healer, the good one, the rebel, the successful one?

The Sorceress – Your longevity in divination and witchcraft allows you to feel seen in ways that you aren’t always acknowledged in other circles in your life that don’t include these aspects.

I work hard to balance this place of pride with a healthy dose fallibility. I feel it’s important that I’m not seen as all knowing and infallible in these areas, or in anything really. That said, in circles where this aspect of my life (divination and witchcraft) doesn’t play a role, I’m still a well grounded person people often come to for a sense of stability.

Whose voice is in your head when you’re doubting your worth?
→ And how long are you gonna let them rent space in there?

The Warrior Queen (pointing to the Red Dragon) – Your parent’s voices. It isn’t really one of them or the other, but both. This was a bit of a surprise, actually. It used to be just my father’s, but when I discovered the closed minded aspects of my mother I’d not realized were there when I was younger, her voice joined in.

As mentioned in the first question in this reading, I’m working on it. Awareness and acknowledgement are always the first step.

What version of yourself are you constantly performing… just to feel safe?
→ And is the performance worth the price?

The Green Knight – You like to present yourself as impervious. This feels like it protects you not just in that you “feel safe”, but also in that it feels like when others see you that way, they won’t even bother to try to hurt you. Sort of  how being aware of your surroundings in public and looking like you’d put up a fight can protect you from being mugged.

No. It’s not always worth the price. It can be a useful tool, but it also often creates a feeling of isolation.

What mask has become so familiar that you’ve started calling it “you”?
→ The confident one? The mysterious one? The put-together one?

Blue Archer – You don’t like to display your vulnerabilities, and thus have a tendency to “keep yourself at a distance” even when you put yourself within reach of others.

All of the above. It’s all about your worry of sharing too much, and thus opening yourself up to emotional pain.

What part of your truth are you sugarcoating to avoid being misunderstood?
→ And who are you really protecting?

Guardian of the Gates – You have a tendency to present yourself as friendly and approachable, hiding the more intense sides of your personality to only allow others a glimpse of those qualities instead of the full experience.

Myself. Sometimes I play it off in my head that my recalcitrance is to protect others from the more negative aspects of my personality, but the truth is I’m protecting myself from what I expect to be their negative reactions.

What do you secretly hope they never find out about you?
→ Because that’s where your real work lives.

The Sacrificial Lamb – That you feel far more broken and afraid that you let on, and don’t trust others to be kind or gentle.

I know that this is where my real work lives.

Why the f*ck do you still need 10 questions to look at your own shadow?
→ Stop doing shadow work on Instagram and go search for your shadow in everyday life interactions.

Who’s There? – Questions to assist in looking at your shadow help because shadows can often be hard to see and/or penetrate, making it difficult to seeing things clearly, playing tricks with the eyes and our self perception.

This reading is a step in that direction.

Ramses Tarot - Three of PentaclesToday’s draw is the Three of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of teamwork, collaboration, working together, and themes to do with bringing in help and/or outside expertise in order to get something done.

Not only is the saying correct that “it’s better together”, but you also get more done. Sometimes you struggle with watching others do things that you are used to doing on your own, primarily because they do them slower than you do.

The thing is though, that even if they’re doing them slower… because they are doing them instead of you, that frees you up to do other things instead. That means you get more done.

The message in today’s cards is that it doesn’t matter if they can’t do things as quickly as you can. They’re still taking things off your hands, which gives you more time in the long run. This allows for not just a better job done overall, but the ability to reach further and do more in the same amount of time.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Dark Sphynx Tarot - The Sun CardWhat feelings came up when I pulled this card?

“Is that a fuckin’ grasshopper?”

I was expecting it to throw me a primarily “negative” card that I would need to translate into a positive. So The Sun card, which is usually quite positive in its interpretation, took me by surprise.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The Sun card is often about success and joyful moments. This lands in the exact polar opposite of my negative inner voice, which often makes it clear that no matter how hard I work or how much I do, I don’t deserve these things.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

The grasshopper, obviously. It spoke to me about just how annoying positivity can sometimes be. Crickets and grasshoppers make this chirping noise that outside can be relaxing, but when ends up inside or excessive, can become extremely annoying. (This is a Gideon problem, and something that happens to him yearly during late summer and early autumn.)

The champagne glass also caught my attention, drawing it as well to how dapper the figure is dressed. This clearly indicates to me not just success, but celebration of those successes.

My prompt response and reflections.

It’s important to recognize, appreciate, and even celebrate your successes. In doing so you combat that negative inner voice that keeps telling you that you’re not enough, and never doing enough.

By discounting your successes to instead simply move onto the next thing, and then the next, you end up reinforcing that negative inner voice and what it has to say.

: Would life lose meaning if we could live forever?

Philosophical Tarot Reading with the Ramses TarotReading Summary: Not as long as we could achieve a balance (Justice) by focusing on our connections with others (Two of Cups) and a version of personal happiness and satisfaction that includes them and our awareness of them (Ten of Cups).

Take Away: These cards say that as long as we have things -in- our life that give our life meaning (and make sure that we are acknowledging them), then the length of life would have no impact on whether life has meaning for us or not.

In my personal opinion, I have a feeling that even if you fill your life with things that matter, there’s always going to be times of boredom and disenchantment.
