Today’s meditation was skipped.

Today’s card is the Two of Pentacles combined with the affirmation “Float. Feel the air around you. Let the universe cradle you for a while.”

Sometimes, the constant juggling of responsibilities and “things to get done” can be exahusting. During those times, it really doesn’t matter how many things are involved. It could be just one small thing, a dozen small things, two big things… it doesn’t matter.  It all starts to feel like too much, growing into this huge undertaking.

The cards in today’s pull are a reminder that it’s okay to ease up on the reigns now and then, especially when feeling overwhelmed.  If you let go and just “float” for a while? It won’t be the end of the world, and you’ll not just feel better for having done so, but return to those responsibilities refreshed and far more capable of dealing with them.

Today’s card is the Seven of Wands combined with the affirmation “No negativity today; You’re gettin’ stuff done!”

Don’t let other’s naysaying and obstructive behaviors cause you to steer off-path.  You have certain things you need to get done today, and their negativity will only be a distraction that makes everything more difficult and take that much longer to accomplish.

Instead, just keep your head down and fight for what you want to accomplish and what’s important to you.  Let the rest slide off, and only push back as much as needed when it’s necessary to do so.

May 23

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the #DailyCalm sessions from the Calm app. The topic of the meditation for today was how to deal with repressed emotions, including those that might become repressed if not dealt with in the moment.  The advice in this session really boiled down to not allowing yourself to push said emotions away, but rather sitting with them and dealing with the situations that create them in the moment instead.

Today’s card is the Page of Pentacles combined with the affirmation “The negative voice in your head isn’t worth your concern. No need to care. Haters gonna hate.”

My progress on learning the skills needed to combat my negative inner narrative has been slow going.

Really. Slow. Going.

That isn’t to say that I haven’t made progress. I have!  Just not at all the type of progress I’m used to managing when working on something.  The Page of Pentacles today is a reminder that sometimes things have to be taken slow, and that in taking them slow, they become far more permanent than if you’d rushed at putting them in place.   Patience is important, and taking things at a slower pace does not equate with failure, no matter how hard those that raised you tried to teach you otherwise.

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the #DailyCalm sessions from the Calm app. The topic of today’s meditation was a story about a man in a hut with no door that is trying to meditate, and a stray cat keeps coming in and climbing into his lap. Every time, he gets up and puts the cat back out, and every time he sits down the cat comes back again. This goes on for a half hour or more. Eventually, he gives up and decides to just sit with it.  The cat comes in, sits in his lap for perhaps a full minute, then gets up and wanders off on its own.

The lesson here being that sometimes meditation is about just sitting with it, whatever “it” might be. Not pushing it away or trying to ignore whatever “it” is, whether it be emotions or discomfort or… even a cat.  Rather, to allow it to exist in that moment with you.

Today’s card is the Two of Cups combined with the affirmation “You could fail a million times over and you’d still be worth knowing and loving. You’d still belong here.”

These cards are a reminder that those who love you are going to love you no matter what. It’s not about what you can do for them or how good you are at something. It’s not about your successes or failures, or any of those things. They love you.  They want to be around you regardless of your struggles and moments of strife.

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the #DailyTrip sessions from the Calm app. Today’s session was about how meditation is not always about finding time to make your environment and situation perfectly conducive to a meditation session, but rather about taking those times you’ve found that “sweet spot” with you into the times when there isn’t one.  It’s about taking a pause during a stressful situation and just… relaxing your shoulders while focusing on a slow inhale.  It’s about using the skills learned in the day to day, even when things are at their most stressful or inconvenient, but taking ten seconds.  One breath.  Finding center in that moment, then continuing on.

Today’s card is the Seven of Pentacles combined with the affirmation “Hey, you are enough as you are today.  You don’t need to prove anything.”

Slow growth is still growth.  Today’s card is a reminder that even on our slowest days, we’re still “enough” and don’t need to prove anything. There’s no need to rush or to push.  Just do what you do and you’ll get there when you get there.

This can be an especially hard lesson for those that are used to picking up new skills easily or learning new things quickly. You get used to that fast pace as you pick up one skill after another, try one new thing after another, and gather more and more experience under your belt.  When you then run across something that doesn’t come so easily, it feels like failure.  It’s not, though. It’s just a different kind of growth. These cards are a reminder to not try to push it, instead just let it come at its own pace.

Devotion – Instead of sacrificing yourself for the good of others, it’s time to recommit yourself to taking care of yourself and putting yourself first.

Independence – You have become far too ensnared into the habit of waiting for the knowledge of what others need from you rather than focusing on yourself first and prioritizing your own needs.

In what way are you being called to shift your mindset?

Abundance – Work on focusing more on what you do have, rather than on where your feelings of scarcity are settled.

What clarity and wisdom are available to you now?

Leadership – You can’t effectively lead others if you aren’t caring for yourself and your needs. The more you fall into the trap of taking direction from others on what they need, the more you lose sight of your own needs and how to fill them.

The theme of today’s meditation was about consistency, especially in reference to one’s meditation practice.   And clearly, as is obvious by my posts, this is an issue for me.

I do try, though, and I find it tinged with a taste of irony that this is the topic of the first session as I try to get back into the swing of things.

King of Cups – For me, the King of Cups often refers back to Gideon. He is the emotional floodgates that help me in managing and understanding my emotions. He is my anchor in a turbulent sea, assisting me in making sense out of the chaos.

Today’s card is a reminder of these things, and that gratitude isn’t just something you feel for another, but an actual practice. It’s something you need to consciously visit and acknowledge, and even express to others now and then.

Gideon… My gratitude for you and your love, for your guidance and your help and support and for all that you do for me is something I can never express well enough to make clear to you.  It’s depth is too deep, it’s breadth too wide.  Thank you for being mine, and for having me as yours.  Thank you for being my rock and my anchor when I’m struggling to make sense of things. The High Priestess and Desire – For a while now you have been able to feel your small side creeping back up from deep within, but you have been ignoring your needs in this area due to your desire to stay in top space.

How can you best begin dealing with what’s being ignored?

Four of Cups and Prepare – Get back on a regular meditation schedule instead of continuing to skip it. That structure is important, especially so when you’re in that smaller mindset. Your meditation practice helps you create a solid foundation for embracing the small within you and letting go of control without it harming you in the process.

In other words, regular meditation makes you more resilient to subdrop.

Ten of Swords – Remember that every ending offers the opportunity for a new beginning.

The advertisement used to illustrate this card is selling cigarettes.  That’s what it looks like to me, at any rate.  In today’s society, we see the tide turning where cigarettes are concerned. Debates on whether it’s safe or not have faded out into an acknowledgement of its health risks, and eventually laws to minimize those risks. It’s been a long, hard road with painful lessons along the way.

And yet, people still smoke, and they still die of COPD and lung cancer brought on by smoking. Maybe we’re not quite taking things in a new direction yet, but you can see the shift.  That’s what I see in this card.  It’s a reminder that even if the ending seems like it might be taking forever?  We have the opportunity to create something better in its wake.

Take Away: Not everyone is going to be supportive in the things you want to do and the goals you want to achieve.

Focus your energy on including those in your life that are supportive in those things that are important to you, and leave behind those that aren’t.

Page of Wands Rx – This has to do with not just actual prosperity in the monetary sense, but also with the feeling of prosperity. Even the poorest can feel wealthy in their own way… but at the moment you are being blocked from finding that feeling. That blockage comes from a current lack of enthusiasm and inspiration to try new things.

Where am I playing too small?

Three of Pentacles atop Nine of Swords – It’s okay to share your worries and concerns with those you trust. There’s no need to hold back. They won’t use these things against you.  Instead, by sharing those worries and concerns with them, they can help you in finding solutions.

What past financial situations do I need to forgive myself for?

The Fool – Frivolous spending is a part of nearly everyone’s early years. It’s one of those life lessons we all have to learn, and you are no different.

What untapped well of wealth have I been ignoring?

Queen of Cups – Allowing others to support and nurture you on an emotional level can lift you up and make even situations of extreme scarcity seem less dire. Stop trying to keep your need for that support and nurturing to yourself and instead seek it out from those you trust.
