All Aglow
The Christmas lights
are hung
and garlands
twisted and twined
while plastic snowflakes
and ornaments
shimmer
along the rail
and inside
is welcoming warmth
and a decorated tree
and if you’re very lucky
maybe
a fresh baked cookie
or three
The Winter Bridge
Perched high above
a chill wind blows
and I watch
the icy waters
as they swirl and flow
and all I want to do
is be here with you
and hold hands
and close our eyes
as the air nips us
with frozen dew
and when the water calls
it’ll be just you and I
as we step off the edge
to see if we can fly
Transition is Coming
A moment to sit
and take it all in
set chaos aside
as it’s time to begin
enjoying all things
lost to the haze
of holiday rush
and the shopping craze
It’s almost time
for a little break
to leave work behind
and be sure to take
some time for yourself
and loved ones too
and shower self care
upon you

I remember
working retail
for the holiday season
with all the
harried people
aggressive
for no reason
and I can just imagine
how the
postal workers feel
when the package count
has climbed
until it feels unreal
how overwhelmed they are
when push comes to shove
and aggression rears
its ugly head
in their catch 22 rub

Old traditions
and hand-me-downs
breathe life
into moments
when meaning
is passed on
from the aged
to the young
whose eyes
are caught
by graceful beauty
pretty baubles
and the shimmer
of lights
The Walk
Lets walk together
through the park
no longer dark
and dangerous
but lit in holiday lights
and the warm glow
of a fading autumn
and watch
hand in hand
as leaves
flitter and fall
in the bright shimmer
that pretends
winter is here
while autumn still fades
