Mars Power Tarot - King of Pentacles

Today’s draw is the King of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of a projective alpha energy, personality, or person in the area of one’s financial security, resources, health, home, labors, manifestations, and other elements of the physical realm. This often translates into leadership that creates a grounded sense of stability for others.

We all find stability in our lives through different venues and different places. One of my greatest sources of stability is my faith. I don’t think that you often hear that from someone who’s a Pagan or a witch. Usually that’s something that you hear from a Christianity standpoint. And yet, it’s no less true.

My faith is not defined by books. I have no ancient texts to tell me what to do or feel, to say or be. I am not a good person because other people have told me to be (or -how- to be) or my faith tells me that’s what you’re supposed to do.

Instead, I am a good person because I choose to be so. I ground myself in my perception of what is right and wrong, what is magical and mundane, what is sacred and what isn’t. I follow the path that feels right for me through a connection I have made with myself, with my moral compass, and with my intuition, as well as an idea of the kind of person I want to become.

All of these are a part of my faith. All of these are a part of my spiritual practice. Just as respect for the self and respect for others, gratitude, and a deep connection and reverence for nature are a part of my spiritual practice.

The message in the King of Pentacles card combined with the “faith” prompt for today is a reminder that we all have things that ground us and create stability in our lives as well as within ourselves. Faith isn’t a bad word, and can ground more than just the Christian population. Today’s message calls upon us to delve into what we believe and where our stability comes from, and to acknowledge those sources of strength.

: How can I cultivate more happiness in my relationships?

Tarot Reading with the Tarot Rama deck

Reading Summary – You already know many of the things that make you happy, as well as how to achieve them (The Magician). You may want to consider, though, looking at a new path forward to get there (Page of Swords).

After all there’s more than one way to skin a cat. In the end, though, this is all about you doing what needs to be done, not just for yourself but for those around you as well (The Emperor).

Take Away – In other words… Get your ass in gear and do what needs done to cultivate more happiness in your life. If the path to get there that you’re used to feels uninspiring, then consider going at it from a different angle. Change things up and make it interesting.

As long as your happiness is the focus, it’s going to work out simply because you’ll be driven to find it for both yourself -and- those around you.

Tarot Reading with the Mars Power Tarot

What closeness means to me now

Four of Swords, Octopus, Virgo – As long as things are going along in an orderly fashion and the closeness does not become cloying, you appreciate the closeness you have with others in your life for the rest that you are able to enjoy as a result. After all, things would be much harder without them.

That said, you tend to find closeness starts to feel like a burden if those involved are bordering on smothering you.

How I can foster within me a greater appreciation for closeness

Queen of Swords, Holly, Bat – Establishing good and healthy boundaries makes the world a better place, and protects you from the negative repercussions that often cause you to hold yourself back from more closeness with others. Learning to appreciate closeness more involves making sure that you are enforcing your boundaries so that things stay healthy and don’t turn toxic or ugly.

Whimsical Witch Tarot - The Fool

Today’s draw is The Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of innocence, carelessness, carefree enthusiasm, and new beginnings.

Just as love can sometimes cause us to act rashly? So can rejection.

This guy in the Fool card pulled for today looks like he just got dumped (something in the face), and is now ready to just plunge out into the world and find himself -somebody- to love (the flowers and his long stride). He’s motivated. He’s determined. And he’s misguided by the loss of his previous rejection.

It’s an act born of emotion rather than reason, and as he lets that emotion rule him, he’s sure to make some mistakes along the way that are not going to make things better.

The message in today’s Fool card and “loss” prompt is to make sure where your motivation is coming from before acting on it. Are you being driven by your emotions? Are those emotions overriding reason and good judgement? If so, perhaps put down the flowers and give it a moment before charging off rashly. It’s okay to take a breath first and make sure what you’re thinking of doing is really the answer.

[Consider adding a second card to each position if you wish to include info on what area of life action will be needed in.]

Oracle Reading with the Toxic Relationship Oracle and What's Gossip Oracle

Call to Action for February

Blaming You For Their Problems and Recharge – February is a time of rest for you, where you can give yourself some time for recuperation and recovery. Don’t bother trying to act on issues until they get to a point where they are blatant and harmful. There will be a bunch of niggling things that lead up to this trigger, but it isn’t until it gets to the point where the gaslighting from others is blatant that it’s time to act and deal with it head on. Until then, just sit back and watch them dig their own hole.

Call to Action for March

Playing Mind Games and Hidden Agenda – Eventually everyone’s motivations come out in the open, no matter how hard they try to hide them. Act from a place of integrity in order to force others to share their own motivations. Wait for when they show their true colors. Remember that you aren’t the one who plays the games, you’re the one who puts an end to the games.

Call to Action for April

Criticizing Appearance and Bouncing Back – Dealing with other people’s mind games and putting out the fires that those games create can be a struggle, as can the efforts to not internalize the shit that comes out of their mouths. Remember when you start to feel an internalization of the negative variety spurred by what other people are saying to you, it’s time to step back and recalibrate so that you can bounce back fresh once again later on.

One thing I’ve been avoiding gently

The Sun, Four of Pentacles, The Anchor – You have been trying very hard to look on the optimistic side of things where your finances are concerned, instead of buckling down and being more miserly. Just because you -can- spend doesn’t always necessarily mean that you should.

Why?

The Clouds, Two of Pentacles, The Cross – Your emotional imbalances have a tendency to create burdens you don’t particularly want to deal with. Retail therapy is a reaction to emotional imbalance. Instead of allowing these moments of imbalance to create burdens you then have to solve or resolve, try working on the emotions themselves and see if you can avoid the upheaval that these developing burdens can cause in your life.

: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Tarot of Tides - The Magician

Today’s draw is The Magician card, which is traditionally a representation of capability, potential, resourcefulness, action, and manifestation. This often translates into themes having to do with being in possession of all of the skills, abilities, and tools necessary to reach one’s goals and accomplish one’s ends. It’s about being capable and skilled, resourceful and gifted with what is needed to get the job done.

I don’t know about other people, but sometimes when I’m faced with conflict, I have the very obvious opportunity to make a conscious choice between engaging in a negative way, or keeping my calm and engaging in a way that will facilitate resolution. And sometimes it is remarkably difficult to choose the latter.

The fact is that when we are irritated or otherwise agitated by a situation, it can at times be hard to be the adult. You want to lash out and express your own emotions, even if they are not going to do a lick of good for the situation at hand.

The message in today’s Magician card and the “conflict” prompt is a reminder that chaos and disturbance does not get resolved by adding in more chaos and disturbance. You have the tools to resolve these situations of conflict if you’re willing to use them wisely instead of going with your first reaction.

A small piece of comfort you can gift yourself this season.

King Protea and King of Cups – Remember whenever you are craving new things or explore new themes, that your partner is your safe space in which to do this. Especially if you are feeling vulnerable.

Even if there’s no one else you feel safe enough to fully open up to and share all aspects of your true self with, in him you will always be able to do so. He’s not going to judge you, reject you, nor laugh at you… no matter what it is.

(Adding a note here for Gideon: No, I don’t currently have anything in mind. This is about the sense of security and safety I feel with you, with your love, and concerning our relationship.)

Something you can do to bring comfort to those close to you.

Page of Swords and Belladonna – Share more of what you know with those closest to you, a little at a time. They are eager to learn from you whatever you’re willing to share. You have a lot of knowledge and experience to share, but you often hold back out of fear of being seen as a know-it-all, braggart, or in some other negative context.

The fact is, though. Those close to you never see you in this light, and they love it when you share your knowledge and experience with them. It’s okay to not hold back with them and allow yourself to share more freely.

Reading Summary – Allowing yourself slow progress and a level of nurturing understanding (The Empress) on your journey to learning about your emotions and how to process them (Page of Cups); especially when new emotions pop up that you don’t recognize or have an easy time identifying (Ace of Cups).

Take Away – Most people learn to process and understand their emotions beginning as children. You’re starting this journey late in life, and it’s often confusing and frustrating. It’s difficult to not beat yourself up over slow progress and moments when you have a setback or feel confusion.

Being able to apply the words “I don’t know what this emotion is” seems so obvious in these moments, and yet often alludes you until much later when rehashing an experience.

Every Moment Matters Tarot - Seven of Cups

Today’s draw is the Seven of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of themes having to do with having a plethora of options to choose from, all of opportunity’s doors being open upon one’s path, and at times being overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices available in the moment.

What options and opportunities are you missing by focusing so hard on one thing and one thing only?

It’s so easy, at times, to get hyper focused on one particular thing that we want to the point that we end up with blinders on to the rest of the world and any other options or opportunities that are out there for us. And, sometimes these other options and opportunities are much better for us in the long run than the one we’re hyper-focused on.

Today’s message is a reminder that the things that we desire are not always the best things for us, and that sometimes we get so hyper-focused on these desires that we forget to look at what else is out there.

An example of this would be someone that is stuck in an abusive relationship. They’re so focused on making things work with this abusive person and fixing this person or fixing the relationship, putting their all into this and hyper-focusing on that direction, that they never realize that there are other people out there they would be much happier with (not to mention safer). Perhaps there’s even someone out there that’s already interested in them, but is keeping their distance specifically because of that hyper-focus and where it’s directed.

The Seven of Cups combined with the “desire” prompt reminds us not to get so focused on what we want that we lose sight of the possibility of what might be out there that could be much better for us in the end.

Tarot Reading with the Modern Manga Tarot and Snowdrop Oracle

What drains me emotionally

Four of Pentacles, Daisy, The Tower Rx – Your upbringing has taught you that it’s important to always be prepared, and has spurred you to take that to extremes. Due to this, hoarding and other miserly efforts tend to be pretty intense in an effort to build stability in your life so great that it cannot be toppled by even the most destructive levels of chaos.

This constant effort towards that greater sense of stability is draining for you, especially because it means you are constantly stuck in a “what if” mentality.

How to create better boundaries and/or balance in this area

Seven of Cups Rx, Snowdrop, Four of Cups – Make efforts to trust that no matter which direction things go, and whether or not you’re in control of the situation, you will always survive and thrive. Remind yourself that the hardships and trials you have faced thus far have been significant, and yet you have always managed to not just survive them, but come out kicking on the other side of them again and again.

You may need to take a step back and regroup, pause, and reflect… and possibly even accept some help that you really don’t want to accept. But in the end? You will come back to full strength once more. Just as you have before.

Tarot Reading with the Every Moment Matters Tarot

Reading Summary – Get out into (Knight of Pentacles) the world (The World), a little at a time (Knight of Pentacles and the dripping faucet in The Hermit).

Even if alone time (The Hermit) isn’t possible or safe right now, getting out into the world (The World) and specifically out into nature (background of the Knight of Pentacles), can help you find the grounding you need (staring at the drop in The Hermit card is reminiscent of meditating by watching water dripped down the side of the shower wall), allowing you to unwind and relax a bit.

Those who you would take with you out on these excursions want you to enjoy things (cat in the basket with a comfy blanket in the Knight of Pentacles), and they will give you the space you need when you need it (the presence of The Hermit card combined with thecardboard box in The World card).

Take Away – Stop allowing your distaste for doing things with others keep you from getting out in nature and taking advantage of that healing and grounding connection you have with the earth and the things that grow from it. Yes, it’s important to take others with you on these visits out into the world, but they know when and how to step back to give you the space you need when you need it, and don’t mind doing so. Iaqves Vievil Tarot - The Fool

Today’s draw is The Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of innocence, carelessness, carefree enthusiasm, and new beginnings.

Holding yourself apart from the adventures and the “good stuff” in life connects you to your inner child and your enthusiasm doesn’t help you feel like you belong, but instead only keeps you isolated from others.

It’s only when you’re open to new experiences, and give yourself permission to be more of a free spirit, that you get out there and actually interact with others instead of hiding away by yourself in the dark.

The message in today’s Fool card and “belonging” prompt is a reminder that it’s through adventure that we discover life’s greatest rewards. If we’re too focused on protecting ourselves from every little thing that might happen, we lose out on a lot of the good stuff that life has to offer us… including the connections and relationships that help support us along the way.

Tarot Activity from The One Card a Day Journal by Maria Sofia Marmanides - Omens Tarot - Death card

What feelings came up when I pulled this card?

My first reaction to this card was “yes, change, that’s what we’re talking about” with just a touch of impatience.

The fact that this card came out out of the deck to land on the table reversed, though, makes me wonder if the answer is more about what not to do… rather than what there is to do.

What elements of the card’s meaning resonate with me and this prompt?

The Death card is about gradual organic change, rather than something sudden or unexpected.

Combined with what I mention (below) about the artwork, this speaks to me about a need to be patient and consistent in my efforts. Don’t wave shit in people’s faces, as it just irritates them and shuts them down. Sneak the stuff in from the side a little at a time, so that they slowly start to realize what they’re seeing on their own.

What in the artwork spoke to me?

That over the shoulder eye roll that the figure in the card is displaying indicates to me a touch of passive-aggressiveness. This hints that if I want to make a change, perhaps the direct approach is not necessarily the best approach I could take in this particular situation.

My prompt response and reflections.

I was just thinking earlier today about how the world seems to be operating in alternate realities. It’s about perspective. Some people see one thing, and other people see another thing entirely that is completely opposite of what the first people are seeing.

We see this again and again lately as politics bleed over into day-to-day life in blatant ways.

I recognize that there are two different versions of reality being seen here, and that each side of the coin is so extreme from the other that it’s hard to believe that they both exist in the same world and the same locations and the same experiences. (ex: We have people who rail against what’s happening in Minnesota right now and around the entire United States, and people who see what’s going on and support it.) And yet, here we are.

Depending on which side of the coin you are on, it’s extremely difficult to see that other side of the coin at all in any meaningful way. And, lots and lots of people aren’t even trying to because they think that -their- side of the coin isn’t just right, but undeniably obvious.

My desire to make the world a better place is for people to see beyond their side of the coin and find a place within themselves where they can work to understand and empathize with the other side of that same coin. Sometimes things aren’t about who is right and who is wrong, but about being able to see things from more than your own perspective in order to understand the situation better as a whole.

I am trying to do this in my own mind, and this card is a reminder that in order to encourage those in my life to do the same, I need to use methods that take time to show results, instead of just shoving things in their face and expecting them to “get it”. That latter behavior just entrenches them deeper in their own perspective and makes them less likely to want to explore anything else.

Tarot Reading with the Iaqves Vievil Tarot

Reading Summary – When you’ve worked hard and done your all, and you’re tired and bedraggled (Nine of Wands), you are then able to give yourself permission to finally sit down, think, and consider your options (Two of Swords). This time allows you to rest by not actively engaging in what’s going on around you, but still allows you to consider different perspectives and ideas (The Hanged Man).

Take Away – A version of rest that works for you does not include a complete shutdown of everything. That type of rest feels like stagnancy to you.

Instead, you often feel like you need to earn your times of rest, and then during those times of rest, be plotting, preparing, observing, and making choices about what comes next.

Because you’ve worked hard, and because you’re not abandoning things entirely during this time while you are sedentary, you are able to better accept this version of rest.

Starlit Gleaning Tarot - Four of Swords

Today’s draw is the Four of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of taking time to rest, recuperation after a trying time, and stillness for restoration and meditation on the events that have brought you to this place as well as where to go from here.

You have to make the choice to rest when you need it. There’s always going to be more stuff to do.

That’s the thing about being a workaholic, right? There’s always so much to do. Lists and lists of stuff to do. And that’s just the stuff that -needs- to get done. Then there’s the stuff you want to get done, the stuff you’d -like- to get done, and the stuff that you really don’t want to do but you should get done.

All of that… even before we get to the stuff that’s not even related to work. Stuff like food and fun, rest and enjoyment and relaxation.

The fact is, though? No one can “burn the candle at both ends” forever. We all need rest and recuperation, and the longer you put it off? The more time it’s going to take to recover.

The message in today’s Four of Swords and “choice” prompt is a reminder that just like going to the bathroom and putting food in our bodies, rest is important and can’t be put off forever. We either make time for it willingly, choosing when and where it happens so that we get what we need… or our bodies and minds will make that choice for us when it they break down due to neglect.

Better to choose to rest when you can rather than putting it off and having that choice taken from you. So make sure that you are practicing your right to choose, and give yourself the rest and recovery you need when you need it.

What I want to feel more connected to

Belonging, Five of Pentacles Rx, Change – You want to feel more comfortable asking for support when you need it.

Times when you need help from others invariably happen during moments of uncertainty caused by change. You don’t have to confront that uncertainty alone. Ask for help from others when you are feeling vulnerable, uncertain, or tapped out.

How to foster a stronger connection in this area

Control, The Fool, Sincerity – Let go of the control that you work so hard to hold onto, and be a little more free with that side of yourself that craves fun.

When you let go of control and decide to be a bit more reckless, you allow more authenticity of who you truly are hidden away inside to escape. This authenticity naturally draws people to you, and that draw is fostered by the fact that at these times when you release control you aren’t holding yourself apart from others as stringently.

: Does love feel different to different people, or is it a universal emotion?

Tarot Reading with the Starlit Gleaning Tarot

Reading Summary – We relate to love through how we have experienced security and contentment in our past lives (Ten of Earth atop Anemesis). This secret knowledge (The High Priestess) is the driving force concerning how we experience love in the present (The Chariot flying off to the right/future).

Take Away – There are similarities because we are all human, but also differences… because we are all human.

These cards speak of past lives, but I think possibly it’s just as true that this answer could speak of our own pasts in -this- lifetime. We understand love through what we have experienced, whether it’s in past lives or in our current lifetime. Thus, it looks and feels different for everyone.

The answer here in these cards is that love is universal in that everyone can experience it, but -how- they experience it is subjective.
