October Mornings

I remember days
when fog tasted
crisp and clean
on the air
as it kissed
dewy and cloying
to the skin
on early mornings
instead of
scented with
the death
of a thousand
trees
and tales of
far off destruction

As you step
up behind me
and your arms
curl
to slip under
my arms
and around
my waist,
my lungs expand
and I lean back
as you nuzzle
my neck
and give me
warm fuzzies
fluttering in my soul

Wildfire’s Sunrise

Vibrant red sun
creeping slow
ekes its way
along the edge
of hilltops
as the smoke
of wildfires
blends with
foggy mornings
and the glow
turns skies
ominous hues
as a new day
begins

Shadows drift
across the land
as skies turn
vibrant hue
and clouds reflect
a setting sun
hiding
just out of view
while grasses reach
to seek dying rays
as end of day
draws near
and I eagerly
rush home
to be with you, my dear
