Gideon’s Challenge – Last Light

Dusk in Anacortes

Last Light

Sun at rest
and all
that’s left
is the twilight
of dusk
in hues of blue
that touch
at the soul
and speak of
the cold
as they invite
thoughts
of warm fires
in stone hearths

Gideon’s Challenge – Fearful

Yellow Hellebore

Fearful

I duck my head
moving past
with tension
in every cell
but hidden
from showing
in the muscles
as gazes
turn my way
speculatively
but today
I’m allowed
to pass by

Gideon’s Challenge – The Supervisor

Peek a Boo Tortie Cat

The Supervisor

From the bed
hidden
among covers
or the spot
by the door
between one room
and the next
or the back
of the couch
or the spot
by the window
her eyes
are always
on me

Gideon’s Challenge – Every Little Thing

Turtle Planter - Mexican Restaurant

Every Little Thing

I think of you
in the strangest
of places
and most
unexpected moments
throughout
each day
over and again
as little things
bring you
again and again
to my mind
and make
a smile
slip over
my lips

Gideon’s Challenge – More Rain

More Rain

too dry
summers
thin out
the evergreens
over time
until winters
begin to look
brown and blue
instead of
green and gray
and no one
wants more rain
it seems
yet that’s
what’s needed
most

Gideon’s Challenge – All for You

All for You

Touch me
gently
nice and slow
until I burn
white hot
beneath
your hands
and the glide
of lips
upon
warm skin
claim me yours
again
