tepid
about you and I
as even moments
of quiet tenderness
turns to wild fire
with a single spark
or breathless gasp
and temptation wins
as again
we become distracted
with each other
and the chemistry
between us

and new topsoil
days of work
and lots of toil
brand new seed
scattered ’round
a full refresh
for healthy ground
one thoughtless man
on wet grass
ruins it all
just that fast
damage control
desperately needed
and then the lawn
again needs reseeded

somehow

are tossed
to the wind

flower petals
falling
to land
in mud puddles
discarded
surely
by mistake

inhaled
through breath
to fill the lungs
and soak
through the soul
like oxygen
dispersed
through the blood
but clouds of gray
cover the sky
and the
water’s surface
can’t shimmer
and neither can
my unshed tears
