You refuse
to let me hide away
so I try to not let
the enthusiasm
wane
and instead
step out
of the shadows
just for a bit
and try my best
to not hide
for too long
when I have
something of value
to offer

the ticking clock
is silent
and yet time
continues on
and when breath
resumes
an eternity has passed

They hear derision
and soak it in
take it deep
weld it into spears
sharp and deadly
to pierce the soul.
How do the words
of one stranger
manage to outweigh
the many
that know you better?

soon all will discover
has been thrown out
for irritation
and vicious snapping
is such a temptation
please just let me
go to bed
