Ravaged Soul

My soul
a deep ache
scorched raw
by your intensity
and now
vulnerable
and open
for all to see
and I wait
struggling
under summer sun
to find your shade
so you can
ease my burns

Sensory Overload

I wander among paths
of shadowed darkness
and take solace
in wet ground
squishing beneath
the soles of my boots
while the world
is filled with the dusk
of forest canopy
beneath overcast sky
and when sun breaks
I step free of the
forest’s embrace
and feel that the world
is too bright

Shifting Seasons

Lipstick vibrancy
gone withered
and bowed
as the spring
sips at youth
and uses
that sweet nectar
to grow
greater things
than early tulips
and as roses
replace crocus
summer’s heat
begins to grow

Tangled sheets
and dented pillows
as sunlight
shines
through
shrouded windows
cracks in the walls
and dented chairs
don’t look
too close
for carpet hairs
but if you are there
it’s paradise
another night
in paradise

Breath Taking

Take a moment
to slide down
to ass on damp log
and let air
flow in
and out
as you catch
your breath
and stare up
through draping
bits of green
to watch
the golden glow
of day’s end
begin to fade

A Gift of Sunshine

A gift of vibrancy
and bright cheer
sits on the table
very near
and every day
upon my waking
they say hello
and ease the aching
of darkness’ reach
and chronic pain
when sunny flowers
say hello again
