Gideon’s Challenge – Goodbye

Protect Our Waters

Goodbye

Lost and gone
into the rush
of water below
unseen
in the dark
to head off
on an adventure
all its own
whether or not
it was meant
to slip
between the bars

Gideon’s Challenge – Mild Winter

Snow in the Hills

Mild Winter

Missing the bite
I stare
at rounded hills
and mountain peaks
where the white
collects
but isn’t shared
this year
with the lowlands
and valleys
and miss
the snow
while thoughts
churn
like clouds

Gideon’s Challenge – Invasion

Tasmanian Devil Train Art

Invasion

What big teeth
you have
in your body armor
and an automatic
in your hands
making assumptions
as you sow seeds
of fear
and tear through
the lives
of others
who belong here
when you…
do not.

Gideon’s Challenge – Sick Day

Sick Day

Can’t we stay
in bed
she says
and cuddle
under the covers
as the hours
slip away
as she’s not
feeling her best
but the cuddles
help everything
be just a little
better

Gideon’s Challenge – The Watchers

Indigenous Art - Carved Boat Oar

The Watchers

Lets curl up
before the hearth
and let
the spirits
of the passed
watch over
and protect us
as we
enjoy the fire
and listen
to the crackle
and pop
of firewood
licked by flames

Gideon’s Challenge – Temperate

Winter in Anacortes

Temperate

The winter
has no bite this year
as rain clouds
come and go
but no snow
is offered
nor do frozen temps
visit in the night
but only raindrops
and clouds
and the soft song
of the sea breeze
through
evergreen boughs
