Celtic Tarot's Queen of Swords, Secret Tarot's Knight of Wands, and Crossed Destinies Tarot's The Hierophant

May 26 – Mental Health Card of the Day

Today’s meditation was a ten minute long #DailyCalm session from the @Calm app.

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Queen of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of a receptive alpha energy, personality, or person in the area of one’s knowledge, education, logic, ambitions, or communication. This can often translate into themes that have to do with the people that foster you through tough love and sharp-tongued advice.

The card has then been combined with a card from The Az 2 Oracle, which says, “Are you reaching for something right now? What is it? Whatever it is… it’s reaching for you too. Perhaps you can meet in the middle? 😉 You know which middle I’m talking about.”

Often, when we want something, it feels like the only way to get there is through sheer determination and grit. We forget that sometimes, all that grit and determination can push us past what we wanted, and cause us to lose out in the value that lies in getting there in the first place. Instead, we charge forward like a bull, determined and single minded, knocking people, things, and experiences out of the way as we barrel towards out goals.

The message in today’s Queen of Swords and affirmation card is a reminder that you don’t have to charge in like a bull to get where you want to go. Instead of plowing ahead, slow down. Allow others to help you, advise you, and be a part of the process. In doing so, you trade the forced rage of the bull for the strength of community, which will get you where you’re going just as efficiently, but with far more value gathered along the way.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Knight of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of a projective beta energy, personality, or person in the area of one’s drive, passions, willpower, principles, inspiration, or enthusiasm. This often translates into themes that have to do with rash behavior and a go-get’em attitude toward the things that matter to that person.

The card has then been combined with a card from the LOBILAT Rumi Quotes deck, which says, “Submit to love without thinking.”

I think this is a rare thing; to just submit to love instead of mentally picking it apart. I know it was for me when it came to Gideon, and to a lesser extent when it comes to the rest of my loved ones as well. (I say “to a lesser extent” because in Gideon’s case I was very much against having a romantic partner in the beginning. It took him some time to convince me.)

It’s hard to trust. It’s hard to put our suspicions, vulnerabilities, defense mechanisms, and pessimistic tendencies aside to just accept love. Maybe, I think, it’s sometimes even harder than giving love.

The message in today’s Knight of Wands and affirmation card is a reminder that love is something to be enthusiastic about. It’s something to dive into, wallow in, and not just give but also accept unconditionally. Today’s message encourages us to not let our past hurts and traumas jade us to love, but to instead accept it with open arms and gratitude.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is The Hierophant card, which is traditionally a representation of traditions, spiritual guidance, long standing institutions, teachers and guides, and themes that deal with conformity and social norms.

The card has then been combined with a Forest Bathing card, which says, “Do you know the trees in their breathing cycle release oxygen and water vapor through mini openings in their leaves called stomata? Leaves can have up to 1000 of these pores on one square millimeter. I invite you to explore the variety of leaves and contemplate our similarities as a permeable living system. I wonder what you notice”.

Permeable means allowing liquids or gases to pass through it; acting as a filter rather than a solid barrier by letting materials seep in or out. That is to say that trees, and leaves, and even we are not truly stagnant and solid. We breathe in air and exhale carbon dioxide. Water flushes through our system, replenishing and cleansing as it goes. Life and living means we are never truly still, stagnant, or completely “solid”.

When we look at the Hierophant, it often indicates traditions. The thing is? Even traditions change over time. Nothing stays exactly the same from one generation to the next. To me, that means that traditions are also a living, breathing thing. They flex and bend, evolve and change. Sometimes over years, and other times over centuries… but it happens all the same.

The message in today’s Hierophant and affirmation cards is a reminder that life isn’t meant to stagnate. It’s meant to move and flow. Sometimes that flow is quick, and other times it’s a glacier’s pace… but it’s still movement. Stagnancy is not the answer, flexibility and movement is.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Page of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of a receptive “omega” energy in the area of one’s finances, resources, health, labors, home life, and manifestations. This often translates into themes that have to do with work apprenticeships and learning a new ability or skill.

The Page of Pentacles card has then been combined with a card from the Pass Around the Smile Positive Guidance Cards For Kids, which says, “Love: Name the special people you love.”

Building relationships takes time. Whether it’s friendships or romantic relationships, family bonds, or any other type of relationship between people. It takes time to develop trust. It takes time to figure out if you connect on merely a surface level, or something deeper.

These things take time because it takes us time to lose our preconceived notions of who these people are, and actually explore and discover who they truly are. This type of thing isn’t something that you just know right off the bat, no matter how much you think you can or how much your emotions try to tell you that you do.

The message in today’s Page of Pentacles and affirmation card is a reminder that flash-in-the-pan friendships and romances can be fun, but they can’t stand the test of time if both parties aren’t willing to put in the work to actually learn about and understand the other person involved.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Knight of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of an active, projective beta energy, personality, or person in the area of one’s finances, resources, health, home, labors, and manifestations. This often translates into a slow moving but determinedly forward moving energy, personality, or person that has their eye on the prize regardless of the slow and steady speed they may be moving at.

The card has then been combined with the Curious & Still card from from The Az Oracle, which says, “When you are curious and still you will see so much more of the story, in fact… you may even see your ability to change it, to re-write a more fun and playful script! And if you can’t, for any reason, or don’t feel that you can… then perhaps you can just re-write your *response* to the movie of life, and decide how you can alter *that* to how you want to feel. When your eyes are wide, and your heart is wide too, absolutely anything is possible.”.

Not everything has to be some big production that has to be completed right now. Sometimes the biggest difference we can make resides within the small things that are nudged along at a snail’s pace. Just as a kind word, or a smile, can turn around another person’s day from one of the worst in their lives to something far more able to be handled.

The message in today’s Knight of Pentacles and affirmation card is a reminder that grand gestures are not the only way to make changes in one’s life. Often, it’s the small things that matter most.

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is The Fool card, which is traditionally a representation of innocence, carelessness, carefree enthusiasm, and new beginnings.

The Fool card has then been combined with an affirmation from the LOBILAT Fluffy Advice Oracle, which says, “The best view comes after the hardest climb.”

It’s true that when we work hard for something, the prize tastes sweeter. Our blood, sweat, and tears make a difference in how much we value our accomplishments and successes. That said? There’s also something to be said for enjoying the journey.

Too much of life stuck striving for end goals leaves us feeling as if a good portion of our lives have been wasted, or have flow by. We end up with a deficit of joy and pleasure. A lack of fun and far too much stress take the place of those moments of enjoyment we discard in our ambition.

The message in today’s Fool card and affirmation is a reminder to make sure that no matter how high you aim or how hard you climb, you’re having fun along the way. The view at the top will never be worth it if you don’t enjoy yourself during the journey in getting there.

: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Ten of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of satisfaction and stability in the area of one’s finances, resources, home, health, manifestations, and the physical world. This often translates into themes that have to do with hard earned success, accomplishments, abundance created through patience and hard work.

Just because you succeeded at something doesn’t mean that there won’t be more opportunities to come. It just means that you have bolstered your confidence for the next step in your journey.

Sometimes that next step is starting over, while other times that next step is leveling up in those things that you’ve already been working on. In either case, just like we don’t want to linger in the stagnancy of failure… we don’t wanna linger so long that success also becomes stagnant and stale.

The message in today’s Ten of Pentacles and the “creation” prompt is a reminder that even when we are at the end of a successful journey, there’s still more to come that we need to stay open to. It’s great to enjoy your successes, celebrate them, and share them with others. Just don’t use them as an excuse to shut down your awareness of other opportunities still to come or the willingness to pursue them.

: Introspection
Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Temperance card, which is traditionally a representation of moderation, balance, slowing down, practicing patience, and can at times represent a connection between the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

The Four of Pentacles really caught my attention in this deck, to the point that I was surprised that it didn’t pop out as the card for today until I realized that… it kinda did.

To explain, we have to look at my dragon-esque tendencies, especially when it comes to my deck collection. I mean, look at that smirk in the Four of Pentacle’s illustration. That’s me with my decks. That smirk inspired my introspection of the day, even before I knew it was today’s prompt.

The thing is, even if I don’t particularly like a deck? Once it’s in my collection it may stay there indefinitely regardless… and that’s a problem.

This is where the Temperance card steps in. The Temperance card speaks of moderation, which is (obviously) not my strong suit. It’s still needed, though, even if it’s not particularly easy for me to practice.

The message in today’s Temperance card and the “introspection” prompt is an encouragement to look at those things where moderation is difficult for you, and consider why that’s the case and what you can do to help foster the moderation that is not enjoyed but is needed.

In my case, I think perhaps it’s time to do a cull on my collection. Why hold onto the decks I don’t enjoy, after all? (Other than those that were added to the collection specifically to work with specific clients, at any rate.)

Daily Mental Health Prompt
: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the High Priestess card, which is traditionally a representation of intuition, secrets, sacred knowledge, mystery, the subconscious mind.

Look deeper.

In my opinion, that’s what the High Priestess card is almost always about in one way or another. It’s about looking deeper. Deep deeper within ourselves, deeper within others, and deeper within the universe at large. It’s about seeking out the secret knowledge that hides beneath what is readily and easily available to us.

This card encourages us to take the “deep dive” needed to explore the subconscious and the secrets that reside there. To get to know ourselves better, and in doing so, understand others and the world around us better as well.

The message in today’s High Priestess card and the “depth” prompt is an encouragement to be curious and open to exploration. Secrets and hidden knowledge awaits you, but only if you’re willing to dive in, do the work, and delve into the depths to find the information you seek. It’s not going to be handed to you on a platter, even if it’s already within you waiting to be discovered. Inner knowing and wisdom take time and effort, curiosity and exploration. Dip in and let your curiosity flourish.

Remember to advocate for yourself and your own choices rather than abdicating them to allow others to make choices for you. If you have an opinion on what to do or where to go, speak up instead of holding your peace today.

Bear your teeth if you need to, but speak your piece all the same. It’s okay to have an opinion that doesn’t align with the party line… and it’s okay to express it instead of keeping it to yourself.

The message in today’s Ace of Swords and the “rise” prompt is a reminder to rise up and communicate your wants and needs rather than remaining silent. Only then will you take back the power that you been yielding to others.

Today’s draw is the Death card, which is traditionally a representation of gradual organic changes, loss, slow moving transitions, and letting go.

Life’s rooted not in stability, but in change. Just as balance isn’t stagnant, but requires constant adjustments.

Think of the buildings constructed to be”earthquake proof”. They don’t stay standing through the earthquake due to stagnant stiffness, but instead due to their ability to flex and adjust.

We, too, need to be able to flex and adjust. This is how we ride out the tests, trials, and changes in life, and come out the other end still thriving.

The message in today’s Death card and the “rooted” prompt is a reminder that the best roots are the ones that flex and adapt to the changes we’re going through, rather than stiffening into stillness and end up breaking under the pressure.

Today’s draw is The World card, which is traditionally a representation of the end of a journey, accomplishment, the completion of a time of growth, and transitioning from one path in life to another.

Embody the completion and closure that you seek.

When we are looking the end of a journey in the face, it’s time to connect and embrace that ending rather than balking and backing up. By celebrating the end, we allow ourselves to move forward into the next phase of things with eagerness and joy, instead of the reluctance and trepidation that resistance can cause.

Yes, sometimes endings are hard. Sometimes we don’t feel -ready- to move on yet, even when we’ve reached the end. It’s okay to feel these feelings, as long as we remember to also celebrate and embrace the ending that is before us.

The message in today’s World card and the “embody” prompt is a reminder that endings are a chance to celebrate an accomplishment. Today’s message encourages us to not let your fear over the unknown that lies beyond these endings to hold you back from leaping forward with eagerness and joy.

Eli Yamashita Animal Oracle's Ten of Wands and Little Otter's Mindful Kids Emotion CardsToday’s draw is the Ten of Wands, which is which is traditionally a representation of overwhelm, burnout, struggling under too much responsibility, and can indicate a need to do some prioritizing and delegation.

There’s merit to the proverb “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”, and I’m totally guilty of this.

I often pile too much onto my plate when it comes to tasks and responsibilities, believing that I’m not just capable but *more* than capable of taking it all on, “No problem!”

Yes. Problem.

Just because we may be capable of taking it all on doesn’t mean that we should. This is how overwhelm and burnout slip in, and eventually become a problem. [Interesting side note: Studies show that it takes more than times longer to recover from burnout than we usually expect it to take.]

The message of the Proud Parrot and the overburdened donkey in the Ten of Wands is a reminder not to let pride convince you to pile on too much for you to comfortably carry. Not “more than you can handle”, but too much for you to comfortably carry. There’s miles and miles of separation between the two.

In what ways am I ready to grow and change?

Statue – It’s time to accept that stagnancy may be well known and comfortable, but it is not your friend. Look at the person you wish to become, and in times when you are tempted to languish, return to this visage. Feed yourself what you need to grow towards that person, instead of languishing in moments of stagnancy that delay your growth and development.

What resistance do I feel toward making these changes?

Peuple de Samar – You are retreating instead of adapting, primarily because you are unable to protect yourself from outside influences while within your home. The erection of the building behind yours has created this issue, and that issue is becoming more clear and prevalent over time. This inability is making you sick, which in turn is making it harder to do the things that are healthy for yourself and those around you.

What will sustain me through this time of growth?

Bol Chantant en Cristal – Make sure that you are engaging with the world around you and those within it in a spirit of the positivity and optimism. This is a focus that you have been working to instill into your life over the past couple of years, and you need to lean into it a bit harder. Love and peace are the answer, not all that discordant crap your negative inner narrative keeps spouting at you.

What new possibilities await me?

Gardien – Introspection can increase your ability to better hone your limits and boundaries so that they can better fit who you are, who you want to be, and your needs. Don’t forget to look within, and to be honest with yourself not just about your flaws, but about your needs as well.

Le Tarot Villeneuve's Magician, Animal Tarot's Ten of Swords, Linestrider Tarot's Seven of Swords, and Little Otter's Mindful Kids Emotion Cards

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and one of the #DailyCalm sessions in the @Calm app.

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Today’s draw is the Magician (le Bateleur) card, which is traditionally a representation of capability, potential, resourcefulness, action, and manifestation. This often translates into themes having to do with being in possession of all of the skills, abilities, and tools necessary to reach one’s goals and accomplish one’s ends. It’s about being capable and skilled, resourceful and gifted with what is needed to get the job done.

Shower thoughts this morning had me thinking about a magazine article I read recently that proposed that our perception of time speeds up when we lack novel and/or memorable experiences used to differentiate our hours and days. I thought this was a really strange theory, as in my observation  time actually seems to pass more quickly as we become more aware of our mortality and how little time we actually have left. I feel this might be why time feels like it gets faster as we get older.  We see our mortality more clearly and it causes us to value our time left more, and thus the perception becomes that it is flitting away too quickly.  Instead, in my experience, depression, pain, and/or misery  cause time to crawl by, while “time flies” when we’re having fun.

These thoughts (which are currently written all over the walls of my shower in shower crayon) make me think that, at least in part, it’s up to us how we perceive time.  The Magician, then encourages us to experiment by using the tools we’ve learned over years of experience to find what works best for us to create a sense of time we’ll be happy with, and fill that time with memorable moments.

Today’s draw is the Ten of Swords, which is traditionally a representation long journeys coming to an end, painful endings, lessons learned the hard way, deep wounds, and sometimes can indicate loss or betrayal.

Right, so… I am becoming/have become more susceptible to guilt. The thing is? I’m not entirely sure how this happened. I didn’t used to be susceptible to guilt, but somewhere along the line in the past decade or so it’s begun to actually have an influence.

Once upon a time, guilt trips by others just made me mad. They triggered my anger, probably as a defense mechanism, and that in turn turned off my ability to give a damn.

Maybe it’s because, as I search for understanding of my emotions and make progress on my healing past wounds, I’m more open and vulnerable now. That defense mechanism just doesn’t trigger like it used to, though, and i find myself becoming susceptible to guilt trips by those I care for where I wasn’t before.

I definitely am not a fan of this development, even if the defense mechanism is still there, just latent and only kicking in when I’ve reached the end of my tolerance and had enough.

The combination of the Guilty Dog and the Ten of Swords makes me wonder… is there a way to fine tune this defense mechanism so that I’m saying “stick a fork in me; I’m done” sooner? I would like to detach from guilt sooner… or is it just one of those things that goes part and parcel with allowing yourself to care about people?

Today’s meditation was thirteen minutes long, and was self guided meditation based off a #DailyCalm session I did recently titled “Anxiety” in the @Calm app. (Because I had a severe anxiety attack, and I needed a little help to reign things in.)

Today’s draw is the Seven of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of strategic thinking, “sneaky shit”, or getting away with something. It can also often be about taking only what one can carry.

Disappointment seems to come far too easily these days. Whether it’s witnessing the truth in Harvey Danger’s “only stupid people are breeding” lyrics, or the decline of work ethic that took a sharper than normal dip during the pandemic (ref: the WPA in the 1930s and how it was preferred by the majority of society at the time over public assistance because it “maintained self-respect, reinforced the work ethic, and kept skills sharp”), and all around wide spread choices to act without consideration of consequences.

Do I sound like an old curmudgeon yet?

The other day I watched someone walk out of a store with a cart full of junk without paying, and yet when I reported this to security? I was the one looked at as an inconvenience.

I could see a policy of letting it go if it was say… food, or children’s clothes. But electronics and other clearly unnecessary luxury crap? C’mon.

The cards for today reflect this event I witnessed and the feelings expressed above that arose from it. These cards are a reminder to not let the morons, the entitled, and the corrupted get you down. Yes, they’re out there and they’re breeding. That just means it’s that much more important to seek out and connect with those that share your own values. They’re out there too, and can help in putting a little faith back in your perceptions of humanity as a whole.
